Kitc.hens - NOT a spam thread!

What the heck IS a fitted kitc.hen? Is this a European term that us Yanks aren't familiar with? Also, why are there so many salespeople trying to sell them? I guess I just don't get it.

This is a good question,
and we all need to get on it with the reputation stuff... I need the power to vote that spam down

Fitted for what? Do most kitchens require extreme unfittings?TheUnwiseOne wrote:Well then, you should have clicked on the multitude of links that were posted

The really annoying thing is that these guys aren't really fully stoppable without going nuclear. They are real live humans, not bots. So updated captchas or the like won't stop them, or else it'd stop everyone. They use dozens of email services and randomly generated real world name/object email addresses. They post via various completely separate IPs, so an IP ban wont work. Some boards have made it so that the first few posts need to be approved, but since it's a real person they jus go through the rigamarole before getting themselves banned. It's the human element that's the rough part here. Some guy or gal is working for pennies somewhere to sit there and make accounts and spam forums 24/7. Ugh.0

I hear super villains require a lot of stringent qualifications for their evil lairs so maybe the same applies to their kitchens?
So... kitchen spammers are evil.

If it was Viagra or something, sure, that's normal spam. But fitted kitchens? Do people really browse forums and think "I wanted to read about MPQ, but now that you mention it, this is a perfect opportunity to update my eatery!"?IceIX wrote:The really annoying thing is that these guys aren't really fully stoppable without going nuclear. Doesn't work. You end up with semi-sensical posts in various threads that make enough sense not to kill 'em at the outset. Then comes the spam. Read a couple forums that have tried that with these spammers. The *best* strategy is to ban all of APNIC which'll get rid of most of it, but it also means that no one in all of Asia and some of the Middle East can't use the forums. I know, right? I *did* like the Quality Name Brand Bag spam a couple days ago though, it has a pic of some store in China(?) called Bag Man.radiopy wrote:If it was Viagra or something, sure, that's normal spam. Don't do that. I'm from Singapore so that would definitely be a disaster.0 -

If its a real human it just increases the amount of spam it will generate before generating spam.
I think it needs a heuristic like if k and c appear within 7 characters of themselves in that order twice in the first five lines and post title then bin it. Someone else can write the regexp, I've done the heavy lifting here.0 -
That's why I call it the nuclear solution. It's not really in the cards. The spam isn't bad enough that I can't usually keep up with it which means it'll be a blink for it to get taken care of with more mods around.Shadow wrote:Don't do that. A fitted kitchon, or "Fkit" for those who have the pleasure of enjoying its wonders, is a versatile, comprehensive, synergistic, custom-built, all-natural, fully functional culinary solution for the modern home, and indeed, for the modern family.radiopy wrote:What the heck IS a fitted kitc.hen? There's a place for everything, and everything is in its place. From the velvet-lined silverware display cases that slide smoothly and seamlessly on Teflon-coated bearings first developed by NASA, to the stovetop control buttons custom-milled from solid aluminum billets, from the Pininfarina-designed faucet handles to the recessed solar lamps that sigh soothingly as they awaken, fitted kitchons are a truly revolutionary experience. Fitted kitchons will not only transform your meal preparation -- they'll transform your life.
Fitted kitchons are the way of the future, yet you could have one of your very own right now. Design. Convenience. Luxury. Herpes. Fitted kitchons: they'll make you say "Oh, Fkit!" We guarantee it.0 -

On the positive side it would also ban me. APNIC also covers .au0 -

So it's like IKEA but without the quality construction materials, personal service, convenient showrooms and customisation to your individual requirements?0 -

Do it, he jokingly threatened to get a song I don't like stuck in my head, so ya know, there's that
And noooo, I definitely didn't provoke him, inflection is soooo important0 -
Well my sink really sucks these days so the ability to get all my mpq updates plus info on going fitted just makes absolute sense.
Who isnt concerned over how well designed their fridge is amidst trying to match 3 gems.0
