Getting bored

The vocal minority is probably the handful of players who want to do the same thing all the time and win everything forever. Line, Reddit, Discord, and especially this forum are tiny, tiny minorities of the player base. They certainly are vocal though!
If you're tired of having this argument, why keep having it?
0 -
Because… I’m not arguing?
All I did was say that in the past 11 years that I’ve played this game, it hasn’t really changed regarding the things the OP finds boring (e.g. one dominant meta that prevails). This same thread has popped up and fizzled out SO many times over the years. Now if you want to make that into an argument because you want to argue, I’m sure you can find a way to.
All this comparison to other games is funny to me, because if I want to play a game like Magic, I’d just play Magic. If I wanted a game like Chess, I’d just play Chess. I play MPQ because I like MPQ. But that’s me and people are free to do what they want. I’m not saying, if you don’t like it you HAVE to quit. Just it hasn’t changed in X number of years, so if you want a game that provides something other than what MPQ has always done, you may be waiting a long long time.

Maybe the same thread keeps popping up because players want something different?

Daredevil said the "metagame is boring" thread pops up all the time. Maybe it keeps popping up because there's some validity to it.
0 -
Or because it’s the same people kicking the same horse in different threads. 😂
Look… I don’t doubt that to the handful of people who complain about the game, there IS validity to it… for them. What one finds boring is subjective. If I go into a romantic comedy and am bored because there’s not enough punching and shooting, I’m not wrong for how I feel. My feelings are valid… but I also need to understand that the third installment of “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” (great film series by the way) is pretty much going to be like the last two. Maybe I should opt for the Creed series instead (also great) if I want more punching.
There’s always been small “nerf X… the meta is boring” threads but they never really gain traction just because some people are “bored”. All those OMG SO OP characters just aged out of the meta due to the game passing them by, which is a pretty common occurrence in games like this. Polaris and Thor will suffer the same fate (and I believe already have).
With few exceptions, the nerf threads only really gain traction when the characters damn near break the game (Chasm, Bishop, Worthy, Winder, etc.) they don’t usually because the meta is boring to a handful of people.

I like the Class of PvP events too and would also welcome the chance to see how my roster has come along but that would really be dominated by ascended characters. I guess though at some point there has to be an acceptance that the game can't always be 100% open to every player or those who skipped characters for meta only have to learn and adapt.I don't think players should ever be locked out of playing. Loaners should be available to allow people to play. But all players should recognise that their way of roster building isn't always going to win everything without a bit of thought and adaptability.
To build on @KGB s point above, there are several ways to build a roster and play the game. I think each of those should be rewarded. Currently a shallow roster of meta characters is "better" for rewards than a broad range of lower level characters most of the time. The "Class of..." events tended to reward those who built wider rosters, because nobody was chasing Silver Surfer, OML, or Phoenix (pre-buff or post-buff probably) except those that wanted to champ them all.
I honestly feel like I'm getting to a place where I'm locked out unless I decide to focus on maxing getting Omega, Chasm, M'Baku, Juggernaut, may to 550. I can't beat these teams and even when I manage to NOT come up against one of them, it's usually MThor and Polaris
BOOOOOOOOOOOOORING.
Its a shame because I'm one of those that have built a wider roster of characters I like and I just can't use them

I reckon you can beat the Mbaku/Chasm/3Namor team with a team I have been running in SHIELD Sim of Goose/Juggs/Sam Wilson - I don't have any 550, in fact those mentioned are all pretty low but this team doesn't need AP. Kill Namor first, flood the board with strike tiles to stop Chasm getting his revives and wear down M'baku. I did have Supports - R4 Eros, R5 Leapfrog and R5 Low level AI.
Not so sure on Omega Red - probably need Electro or whoever there.
The real solution is just don't play SHIELD Sim, lol! The rewards are terrible, the ENEMY teams are repetitive and boring and the fun is meagre!

Woohoo! I made someone's cheese list!
My team routinely beats the Mbaku/Chasm/3Namor teams, and, since they routinely beat me back, I presume that we are all humble MPQ farmers. I also want to note that I dedicated about 10 months to get my 4a5 Juggs to 550 at an opportunity cost of ascending my other 4s. I don't regret it, but I tacitly acknowledge that I am One Trick of the My Little Pony troupe, which is fine since Juggs is my second favorite Marvel villain.

So as someone who can't really stand the featured-character events unless it's one I like and I've built, I mainly play SHIELD.HOW IS THIS FUN????? There needs to be a better counter to Chasms instant stun to even stand a chance against these teams unless I run the exact same teams which is boring as ****.
It's fun because sim is just a way to farm 1 star and 2 star covers for most of us, and those of us running these teams are hitting each other repeatedly and we can beat each other very easily allowing us to farm tons of covers everyday.
It can't be that hard to beat because this team gets beat repeatedly every day and often by rosters much smaller than mine. I lose hundreds of points in sim every single day by a load of people, including you! It certainly doesn't seem like you have any trouble beating it, I've got quite a few hits from you.
Also, it's against forum rules to share other players names, so you may want to take those pics down or edit them to block out the names before your post gets deleted and you get a mod warning.
Also, the real team you want to be focusing on building is ascended hammer juggs and 5 star falcon. That's the real meta.

Yeah, this casts the original complaint in a somewhat new light. Shield sim has pretty much always been terrible, and supports made it much worse. But it's mostly "extra" because the rewards are awful. I skipped it entirely for years and missed nothing.
Fixing this would basically mean applying a rotating boost list in sim, because otherwise they'd have to do a MASSIVE amount of very careful character rebalancing -- it would require a huge effort and likely isn't even possible.
I stopped asking for character balance like this a very long time ago. What I want is for 672s to always beat 550s, and we're still miles from there.

Oh, you didn't know?
Supports in PvP will make the game better. It will be more interesting and more diverse.
/end sarcasm.
PvP is stupid, boring, and not worth the time investment.

PVP is and always has been my favorite part of the game. If this game was just pve I would have quit long ago. Pve for me is just to grind the rewards so my characters are stronger for pvp. Despite some supports being annoying to deal with (leapfrog) I still enjoy the added layer of supports in pvp.

But, I think there is a not small group of players that don't want supports in pvp and feel they ruin the experience.
Maybe I am wrong and I am the only person that doesn't want supports in PvP.If you try to splice your player base you are going to run into problems.
Put it this way. If they removed supports, then you would probably still PvP.
If they keep supports in, then a large group of players will not engage in PvP in a meaningful way.So fine, you like it. But, how does the rest of the community feel?
This is literally the death spiral of dozens of MMO's. Either you cater to the hardcores or the wider playerbase.
My opinion doesn't matter by itself but in a sea of disagreement it has weight.

I don't hate the concept of supports in PvP, and they probably always should have been there. Having them be PvE only for years made a lot of folks neglect them (like me!).
But I think the current set of supports is really unbalanced and doesn't give us a ton of meaningful choice to construct different fun teams. If they want supports to be really big, game-warping stuff like Leapfrog or "start with 6 free AP," I'm even fine with that! But then you shouldn't have 4 usable supports and 20 that are "sometimes create a strength 20 protect tile -- can only be equipped to Black Panther."
Removing them from PvP is the wrong fix -- I'd just go back to ignoring them all and forgetting they even exist.
I would like to see them fixed, and then expanded. Why don't PvE enemies carry supports? Imagine the kind of fun, interesting fights they could design if the challenge nodes started with 12AP, or carried Leapfrog + Eros Arrow!

Oh, you're bored. Don't worry, you can play right now against this JuggSam team. Don't want to? You'd rather fight someone else? That's okay. There's a skip button! Skip! Now, you can fight a JuggSam team! Or a JuggSam team. Or a JuggSam team. Or a JuggSam team. Or a JuggSam team. Or a JuggSam team. Or a JuggSam team. Or a JuggSam team. Or a JuggSam team.

and usually those jugg/sam teams are just the same 2 or 3 players being offered over and over....

Or a JuggSam team. This post was about Sim though, and Sim has ALWAYS been like this.
The only way to mitigate it (short of a MASSIVE balance undertaking that realistically is not ever happening) is with a boost list -- I wonder if they could just boost the "theme" of each season. Like this season the Thunderbolts characters would all be boosted for the entire month of Sim.

Supports should be gives little bit of extra help if you need it not build your entire team around this thing which is broken.

And if they're going to be big game-warping effects, they should counter each other.
If they want to give us some big effect like Leapfrog, then give us a support that lets us damage invisible/away characters, or hurts them for going invisible, or otherwise punishes them. If they want to give us +6 AP supports, give us a support that drains all enemy AP on our first turn.
