Gender bias in MPQ

2014! Those were the days! You could fill up your car with petrol, stock the fridge with all the beer you could want, put the heating on and still have enough left over for a Stark! Go back to then, thread, you won't like it here!

Holy cow! The zombie community challenge ended awhile ago. No need to keep raising the dead.

I wasn't even aware the forums existed when this thread was started - just got my 7th anniversary badge in the last week or so - so we have 3 options:
1) I can close it.
2) I can leave it here and get updated thoughts on the topic and how we think the game has changed in relation to gender bias over the last 11 years
3) we can make cultural references to a bygone era and I can then delete them all as off- topic.I vote for 2.
@sapek - just to be aware, this is an old thread and in these cases it's normally better to start a new discussion as the world and game has moved on. See forum rules for more detail if unsure.

Obviously MThor and Polaris spun this whole retoric on it´s head. Think after all they did a good job balancing that out.

I say keep it for a month for funsies. In honor of International Women's Day next month.

I asked my wife but she was too busy doing the ironing. I'll ask her again once she finishes the dishes!

My wife left 3 weeks ago to go out and hasn't been back since, I'll give her another week then I'll text her.

Gender stereotypes are so dumb. My wife told me I could say that.

I’m all for gender equality and you’re argument holds no ground, Thor-Jane, Polaris, America Chavez, May (both versions), scarlet witch, Yelena, okoye, weapon hex, etc, are all top tier.
Are there more men than women? Yes, but Thor, May, annd Polaris, are all S-tier. Quality is always better than quantity.

Maybe you missed it but this was a necro'd thread from 2014. The stats that OP brought are not entirely up to date any more ;-). Also, because the total amount of characters was a LOT smaller back then, it's a lot easier to 'prove' a skewed ratio by using percentages.
I feel like there is a pretty good representation of all different kinds these days. Would be interested to see some updated numbers. Maybe add an extra category for nongendereds like Shuma Gorath etc..

As we found out from the Year of the Snake vault we didn't have any snakes until Sidewinder arrived! We probably need some rabbits and maybe a groundhog? Oh porcupine - I love those guys! Oh and also of course the wimmens.

Black Knight has his Atomic Horses too; it'd be kind of a fun occasion to bring in one of Marvel's Wild West heroes though.

There is this guy:
He was in the Beauty & the Beast series that had Dazzler in, in the 80s. I don't actually know if he has a name but Beast dishes out some quite frankly unnecessary man-horse abuse here:
I guess his name is either "Horse" or "Rocker"? No wait...could it be Rocker Horse? Ha ha ha, you rule 1980's Marvel!

This is a interesting thread (even if zombified). Representation absolutely matters, but MPQ is of course hamstrung by the material from which it draws--and much of that material is in the past, when comics generally were much more sexist. Original Clea is a great example--incredibly powerful half-Faltine sorceress who exists primarily to be Strange's wifey in the 60s. Fortunately, she's been updated and is now an interesting character--powerful, nasty temper, and still loves deeply--but the early writing of Strange was cringe generally. At the birth of modern comics, the gender roles mirrored the expectations of their creators, oof. It's no coincidence that the world becomes more diverse and interesting as the creators do. Some of our best newer female characters now come directly from the MCU--DocThor, Agatha come to mind. No coincidence that Polaris was in The Gifted, either. Modern media audiences demand, if not equality (and it's definitely not), at least more than one woman per large group.
The OP was right, but it's definitely been corrected here in MPQ by 2025.

No it doesn't.
No person has ever explained why representation matters.
The only character that you mentioned that is remotely new is She-Thor who first appeared in 2014.............11 years ago.Identity politics suck and is a cop out for lazy story writing.
We had great female characters decades before. We had great female characters decades before.
Polaris 1968
Agatha 1969
Jean Grey 1963
Invisible Woman 1961Some of the most loved characters are female and they have been in the comics since the beginning.
You are looking at the previous works from a modern perspective. That is the same as calling Mark Twain a racist which is ridiculous.
Modern media audiences don't want this **** that's why most of the media is failing. The modern Marvel movies are losing money and the newest marvel tv shows are bombing. Star Wars is essentially a rotting corpse. Beloved game franchises are crashing out.
It is all because they put ideology above storytelling.People don't care about representation...they care about great story telling and good writing.

Stan Lee did. He introduced black characters into Marvel because he thought there should be stories that black readers could read and identify with. That said, Stan never did anything completely without self interest so there was probably an element of what was in it for Stan too in terms of being able to get on his soap box (oh and Marvel, of course).

Every post he's made has included a possible scam link (including an online casino and a NSFW-site!), some have been removed, but several are still there.
