Multiple teams have run this game and the same people with the same complaints that the news is never here but on discord. Totally true and it won't change, what's the lesson here?

Forums are just too labour intensive for such a small game. Discord you can post your info, sometimes answer and few questions and the chat moves on.

Then why do they still have a forum? Why do they link to it in the game? Why do they still post announcements or whatever on here?

If the forum is obsolete and they want to use Discord now, tell us, then take the forum down and link to Discord from the game.

They don't have to tell you anything, it's obvious where the eyeballs are, you have known it yourself for years yet still sit here complaining about it. Adapt or sit here shouting at each other about it.

Very few games I play use forums as a source of up to date information anymore. I don't expect them to post an official statement about it, I just use the media where the updates and interaction come from.

I guess some people just have a much higher tolerance for bad communication. I'll join the discord if they tell me I have to. Otherwise, I'll keep checking the place that they told me to check.

If you want to excuse their bad behavior, defend them and bend over backwards for them so you can stay in the loop, good for you.

No I just login into discord, it really isn't that deep and at no point have they told me I must use the forum for communication, it's 2025 no one uses forums as a sole destination for information. I mean the signs have been there for years, perhaps it's on you for not being able to pick up on them.

If you want to "adapt to" them, good for you! When they randomly move to some other platform will you follow them there too, and just be happy to accept whatever scraps they give out? I have higher standards than that!

It's been over 10 years still moaning about the same thing, have you considered just playing a game with better communication channels that are only the stated super official ones? You know where most of the detail is coming from, why not just use that one? I have a feeling I know why but is this the only game you play?

I've managed to play hundreds of games without needing official channels.

It's actually not the only game I play, and most of the ongoing ones do a great job of official news releases. What game are you playing that doesn't tell its players anything, or that doesn't post official news releases anywhere?

They are different types of communication. The forums are a "permanent" record where conversations are in threads making it easier to track. This means that posts from official sources need to be thought through, cleared, detailed etc.

Discord is different in that is a fairly rambling sprawl of a conversation. Like a whole pub full of people having different conversations and when you go to the bar you miss what was said. Of course, you can scroll back to try and work out what's been said but mostly you just jump back in. In that environment it's easier to answer questions because it feels more like a live conversation and less like what you say will be permanently on the front page. If you've got 5 mins to kill, Discord is your platform.

I think a couple of years ago when BCS landed it was Yume, MPQBlaine and S0kun on comms with drop-ins from IceIX and Devpool plus possibly another dev at various points. It's not like that now.

MPQ has only had an official Discord for a year or two, before that the Discord page was fan made and an even more inappropriate place to parse knowledge on the game. Things like the build release notes should at least be posted here, Discord is such a stupid place to put that sort of stuff where it disappears in a few minutes and as MPQ Devs are West Coast of US base doesn't serve the wider community who maybe can't be active when these conversations happen.

No disagreement there, was noting the age of the platofrm for Bucket's benefit.

I don't remember when the Puzzle Warriors started ... 2016? 2017? They had they podcast and went for a ridiculous # of episodes, and off and on the devs/pubs popped up there. As media appearrance that's one thing. But choosing to leak information there was weird. They know it will propagate from there, sure, but it's lazy and create insiders & outsiders.

The official Discord started in 2023, IIRC.

Both are dead now. Occasionally stir to life. Usually when a dev pokes in.

Lots of alliances have a DIscord .... or used to ...
