Yes, UnityGamer is my forum username... but also my in-game name. I've actually been playing MPQ for almost 10 years, meaning the origins of my moniker had nothing to do with the engine whatsoever. Besides, I didn't know what Unity was back then.

So, as you can predict the future, we’d best all get some lottery numbers off you. And if you can just let us know who’s going to win the Super Bowl?
Although maybe these will be the winning details for 10 years down the line… 😕

Bonus points if you can tell us if MPQ servers are still running this time next year?

Oh the MPQ servers will have long since become sentiment by then and we will be too busy running away from killer Arcade Doombots to remember anything that happened here.

Game is definitely crashing when my iPad gets too hot, and even after force closing the app, it cant reload mpq until I leave it to cool down (just sits with the word Marvel against a black background). Might be an iOS protection thing for when device gets too hot.

Also have a new error in pve. Crash was happening after winning a battle and then just sitting with a blue screen before the points and reward come up. After force quit, the number of clears for the node has registered, but no points awarded. After opening clears, I noticed my points were short, and even though node showed 3 clears, it was still awarding full points for the fourth clear (CL10). Completed fourth clear, have correct opening clear points, but all 4 rewards on this node, and only the 24 hours until full points again, as if I have only completed 3 clears.

    Screenshot attached.

The time came for my forced updated. Woke up this morning, opened MPQ and the new engine finally forced itself onto my iPhone 16. Spent 30 minutes during my morning walk doing a final clear and new clear of PvE and a little PvP. I'm going to try to skip over the bad and provide some good thoughts for me (again, running on an iPhone 16):

    • Graphics are sharp! Very clear and almost 3Dish.
    • Searching for a character now doesn't think every name I type is misspelled and try to autocorrect it. It's also easier to clear a name in the search engine.
    • Parts of the game speed are much faster. Resolving SAPs, switching waves, etc all seem a smidge faster. Real test will come when we get Mindless Ones.
    • My phone did not get hot nor did my battery go down in a noticeable manner.

That's about it. I'm not going to rehash the bad but did want to point out that my experience was much better than I expected. Maybe because I was expecting the worst it turned out to be not too bad.

So you were forced from the Old Engine into Unity? Did you have auto update on or what? Or did you need to update to play MPQ?

AFAIK no app can force update unless you agree to it or have auto update on.

Also the experience of people varies dramatically and I suspect a number of factors around your use will drive how MPQ performs, including how recently you were using streaming apps which generally are using a good % of your ram to avoid interruptions in your experience when download speed fluctuates.

The mindless ones are still minding their own businesses. As usual. Urgh...

If a server will not authenticate your client version number then you are forced to update or you cannot access the game.

This happens for every build of MPQ after about 7 days.

There are definitely some people on the old engine playing PvP.

My experience has also been largely positive with the new engine. Definitely looks crisper and faster....the only issues I've had are a tiny bit of lag sometimes (using pixel 9 pro and the pixel tablet)

Nope. Do not have auto update on at all. I've been avoiding updating like the plague and now I have it.

So they might be gaining an unfair advantage?

But y'know what, Scofie said leave this stuff and I don't have the energy to fight with people so, whatever.

So still nothing from the dev's regarding a fix? Maybe August or September 🙄

Currently the PvP is mostly only showing people in the old engine to top score players. So it’s not an advantage because they’re getting blasted by others.

It would be awesome if the devs had some clear communication around expectations we should have around auto/forced updates and things.

Sounds like the game is optimized for the newest phones (iphone 16, pixel 9 pro), but everyone else is getting lag and crashes.

That's what I'm thinking. Just noticed, on my iPhone 16, it takes about three seconds to load the game when I launch it. Before Unity it was a good 15-20 seconds. Very noticeable change in loading the game itself.

My iPhone 15 is basically fine although I get irritated by some in match slowness in PvP.

I mean besides all the bugs and things, lagginess fairly limited.

It would be awesome if we had any kind of communication at all… and only if it was the devs telling me through @S0kun that I‘m an annoying pest for bothering them so much…

Why do I see class of 2013? Anniversary comes early this year? Or is it a requiem?

A fix ... for what? Unfortunately, there are a LOT of issues, apparently device and OS-specific issues. A fix for everything? Well, unfortunately ... never. It's whack-a-mole. Get this isue papered over on this OS/device, great ... but, whoops, that caused an issue on this OS/device ... fun.

As others have noted, it would be great if the devs could share their priorities ... but communication breeds communication ... yadda.

I can tell you that isn't hell all over. The game runs fine on my phone, a budget Motorola from 2024, Android with 8Gb RAM. It uses an amount of RAM that a similar games do. It runs smoothly enough. It is sucking battery. But it isn't overheating. I wish everyone else could say the same ... but that's not the nature of implementations distributed across a world of diverse user devices!

On Steam the game is also .... OK. DIfferent every day. Lag on opening tokens on Sunday was bugging me ... that process is slow enough when it works right! ... but that was cleared up on Monday. Hope that sticks. Many issues have been addressed since Unity was dropped on Steam, thankfully. Progress is being made.

I am quoting @S0kun (taken form Discord)

"It's definitely on our radar. One of the potential improvements is lowering the frame rate like some have suggested. R326 is going to lower PC to 60fps and mobile to 30fps. Not sure if that will actually fix things while we investigate further, but we'll see."

Let's give them time to test it out.
