New Boss Event: Quandary Info

The colour changing one might get a bit tricky later if the damage ramps up and you can't figure out what to match but the other puzzles are straight forward providing RNG doesn't smash you one in the love spuds. I think the Devs were nice to us by only making two nodes Quandary ones. We get to punch her in the face on the boss node so what's not to like?
Really my biggest question is what Disco Girl actually wants. I'm not super excited for more puzzles but I hope there is actually a storyline, or at least we get to dance to Staying Alive at some point (excluding Dazzler and Star-Lord from this is particularly mean!).

At least it's better than the original Galactus Boss event. Oh, good times.

Not the worst I’ve played for boss events BUT…. Not sure it’s a good way to celebrate an anniversary!

Maybe it will turn out that Quandary is Red Skull in disguise or something. Or Nightmare. Or considering she is in a Labyrinth maybe:

For the color changing one, I feel like that one would have been better designed if two colors were linked together, like Red would damage Purple and Purple would damage Red to make it easier to track so you wouldn’t have to grab a pen and paper to have to figure out how to complete it.
Having them all just be random is super confusing and rather annoying if you’re not writing down which colors aren’t doing damage for each one. I feel like if that one change is made then it would take away a lot of headaches that are being caused from this rendition of it.

That or use 5 star magneto method
so black -> yellow
Green -> purple
red -> blue
and viceversa1 -
Ban Quandary to Limbo forever. This is awful

I don't dislike the Quandary "puzzle" nodes by default... but the main problem I have with them is that they lock you out of all your powers, essentially removing all "puzzle" from what would be a puzzle quest. I have all these characters with board manipulation powers, but I'm frustratingly throwing my tablet against a wall because I can't get to this fortified node in the corner despite having 30AP in all colors because yes that's how long i've been trying to get to it.

I feel really bad for new players. This event is not a way to endear the game, I think, to anyone just starting. Not being able to use your powers at all is really not a great way to promote the game. I’ve been playing all ten years and want to throw my phone in frustration at this event.

While there have been some frustrating moments, I've mostly enjoyed the Quandary events/puzzles.
The usual forumites are split between liking it and hating it, but I'm seeing something else from new posters.
There are lots of "just dropped in" individuals coming to voice their unhappiness with all things Quandary related, meaning it's not going well for the general player.
In addition, my alliance just isn't playing it at all.
They are mostly new(ish) players that usually seek advice...(which is the whole point of my alliance)...But they're not even bothering.
They looked, and they checked out.
All this is to say I may need to set my own opinion aside and recognize Quandary might not be good for the health of the game.
I also realize my alliance and a few people coming here to say they don't like it isn't a full sample of the player base, but without an equal number dropping in to say how much they love it, it's the only data I have.
I like the event, aside from those adjacent related green matches, but I'm ok recognizing I'm in the minority and need to accept it might not be good for the game.
Done ranting for now, I guess.

My kiddo hates it. I showed him what to do and he was "Oh, OK...I'm still not doing it" as his tiny teenage brain hurt and there was no more room for puzzles next to Generation Zero, whatever that is (something to do with shooting robots in WWII). As he is now in my Alliance I threatened to cut off his food supply unless he got stuck in so either he will reluctantly add to our Boss total or I will need somewhere to dispose of a skeleton.

How could a new mode come without the fair share of rants complaints and quitting threats?
It's funny to read comments about "if this is direction the game is going..." I didn't realize pves and pvps never would appear again, just quandary events!
Although on the other hand, the quandary tasks which come with the character, those aren't so hateful, or you want it to return the thousands of iso, isn't it?
About rng, there are nodes where there is no need match damage or powers(actually only playing her boss node needs it) so you can take loaners and quit until having a rng sweet time, nothing will be lost.
I wonder what kind of puzzle would appeal to all kind of players...
Needless to say, I love this new event and all the hard work behind it.
The success or not of this event will be analyzed from their track system.0 -

With posts and sentiments that you're referring to, I think it's more the case of it being the straw that broke the camel's back than people going off on a huff because of one bad event.
I've been struggling with burnout for a while, it comes down to:
- Enemy AI popping off insane cascades almost every turn.
- Having to complete 70 PvE nodes to tread water.
- Too aggressive with releasing new characters, always feeling behind.
- PvE rewards tied to speed so I'm locked into playing at scheduled times that are inconvenient and I also place poorly because I can't burn thought 70 clears in 10 seconds like some people out there appear to be able to do.
- PvP where every single opponent has a team that will kill off my best teams so it's not even worth the attempt.
Now there's this boss event where my best teams feel utterly useless because match and power damage don't appear to do anything and before I can down the boss they've gone into hiding and now I have to fight a clone where I HAVE TO BUST OUT A PEN AND PAPER to take notes on how to sloooooowly whittle their health away.
I've given up on this event. Everyone in my alliance has given up on this event. Hopefully their tracking system records that.
The best thing about the event is a much needed weekend off.

None of that was a rant, it was a very well stated post.

Just use the loaners since you don't actually fire powers anyway.
The ascension one is the hard one because that can require a lot of matching to complete if the board runs dry in the middle columns.

I wouldn't mind nearly as much if once you successfully damaged her on a color that it showed you the color required each time. So when the node starts and she's in Blue you'd have to guess the color to damage her. But once you stumbled into it (lets say it's Red) that for the rest of the battle when she's in Blue it would show you the color needed to damage her (Red). That way you'd eventually figure out all 6 colors after a bit of trial and error and not need to write stuff down.
As it is, I typically end up remembering 1 or 2 color combos and just endlessly randomly match on the rest hoping for cascades to damage her.

I agree, most people don't have a pad of paper and pencil next to the toilet.

I generally like this boss, but the couple of trials are very frustrating and not always in a good way.
General thoughts on them all:
Match Specific Order - was a neat puzzle to work out, easy after done once. Shame there wasn't more board set-ups for this
Match Fortified - occasionally had a bad board, but found this one the most satisfying as with a bit of patience and thought can always be completed
Drop tiles to the bottom - also enjoyed this one - there's patterns to watch for and maneuver into that make it a satisfying puzzle to complete
Match specific countdown - meh, sometimes one match and done, others a bit more work, not super exciting
Match hidden trap - with only 10 matches this one is more luck based and frustrating to have no powers to help tackle
Mixed up colors - this one is my least fave. I find the problem is the big cascades with no TUs, even trying to be patient and work out the match combinations, sometimes things happen too quick that I spend the match just guessing and hoping. I end up mostly brute forcing and not even trying to solve itMain boss is a bit weird, I get the point is to get her to zero AP to stun her, but that seems impossible given how quickly she gains AP. I just damage away with 5 stars and it ends reasonably painlessly.

Oh is that what you are supposed to do? I was just into wrecking her face whilst screaming "Disco Inferno this!!!" - next time I can use a plan!

The only way it's doable seems to be cascade on the first turn which allows you to match all 6 colors. That moves her AP totals to zero and stuns her. If she gets a turn, she gains AP too quick for it to be "solvable" so start bashing.
I've been using Magik - her repeaters get weirdly overwritten by Quandry graphics, but still work normally. Scarlet Witch's repeater behaves normally.
