Class of 2021 PvP

This event is a huge waste of time, the big hitters will have a chance as they will have everyone champed I only have mags and knull champed and although knull is a good character he can’t beat a full powered switch and colossus amongst others
so I’ll leave this one I think1 -

Well I guess it is Switch/Colossus on defence or nothing in this one if you wanna float! Got hammered for 183 points overnight, lol and every team was a champed above team.0
-
It is worth to mention that those were great pvps besides which characters were featured.
2 pvps were 3 characters were loaned and others locked.
I think these features being together are new.
It is positive and I hope it can repeat again.

Evergreen? The pvp where it's a pick-1?2

Looking at this year releases:
5*
Adam Warlock, Colossus, Cyclops, Electro, Knull, Magneto, Odin, Ronan, Scarlett Witch, Shang-Chi, Ultron, Yellowjacket
We have multiple:
1) match damage boost
2) heals
3) defensive abilities
4) anti-defense abilities that bypass protect tiles and power reduction
5) varying offensive mechanics like Shang Chi and Yellowjacket.
We have one stun, one trap and one invisibility though.
4*
Beast, Elsa, Kate, Lizard, Loki, Mantis, Monica, Morbius, Red Guardian, Scorpion, Silk, Hydra Stomper, Throg
We have mutiple of
1) anti-special tiles abilities
2) charged tiles abilities
3) stun abilities
4) passive special tiles spamming abilities
We also have two who have anti-airborne, anti-invisibility and ap steal abilities. Finally, we have only one web ability.
Looking at these two tiers, they use different ways of defending against meta of their time. In 5* tier, we hardly have stun ability.
I hope to see one or two more 5* characters who can synergise around web tiles within the next one year. 5* character who can send enemy airborne will be fun as well. Do you want to see 2-3 more 5* who can stun for Class of 2022?
Ronan is just too slow and tanks too much to get enough momentum, even with Wanda reducing his damage intake, to stay alive long enough to accuse anyone effectively. I will say though that once you get the enemy down to one remaining and use his red, it has hit super hard assuming you have repeaters out and it hits them. I still like Ronan, he's just ill suited to overcome the Steelwitch(? that what we're calling it?) dominance in this (and most, if we're being honest) event.
I think I was running Magneto wrong; I was prioritizing getting him into the air, but I probably should have focused on firing yellow and red instead. I'll give it a shot.
I had some okay climbing luck yesterday with Wanda/Ronan/Mantis actually. Mantis is the best stunner option for this event as best I can tell, so you can give yourself a little more room to breath when it comes to building momentum for Ronan.

Whenever I see Knull, I bring Electro along.
Some other teams centering around Odin involves:
Ronan, Wanda, Mantis, Lizard.
Odin/Wanda/Ronan
Odin/Ronan/Lizard
Odin/Wanda/Mantis
What I did with Ronan is to choose blue and accumulate them. When his cd goes off, it gets a huge boost. Wanda's repeater gets boosted as well.
With Mantis, I chose yellow so that she can also heal odin while triggering her passive stun by giving away strike tile via Odin.
As for Lizard he gives free matches sometimes and turn blue to red. His repeaters also self-fortify every turn.
Your Odin and Electro are not really well covered. I think next year, it will be much better. Mantis seems like a good candidate to choose to max champ her.
Next year, Knull, Ultron and Wanda will probably be the best team.2 -
I’m high on knull and think he is great but that team will falter. Knull/ damage is too weak and ultron takes too many turn to make strong attack tiles. Added that ultrons extra tiles are next to already established tiles. It will take too long for that team to create heavy hitting turns that col5 does on turn 10
-
I’m using Odin / Steel Witch but because I don’t want to play a 7-10 minute battle I’m skipping the 97% of teams using a Switch 20 levels above mine. While this is the most challenging it’s also by far the most repetitive and monotonous PVP.0

How are y'all getting a Shang-Chi loaner? I just have a loaner Adam Warlock, Morbius, and Throg in mine.0

Shang-Chi is probably a really good pick for this event, since you can use him to go infinite after he knocks out the SW tile. It'll be a little harder to go infinite with a loaner, though, because his red destroys fewer tiles and purple charges fewer tiles too.
Otherwise, I don't think there's a good counter for the Defensive Duo, and since I expect to see them in 100% of fights, these are gonna be some long matches. I might try out my Shang-Chi at 3/1/3, but I have a feeling I'll give up pretty quick.0 -

I've been having a blast on this event! i found a defensively tough team that has given me more defense holds than any other team i've run. I use 5* Odin, 4* Monica Rambeau, and 4* Silk. Its definitely a sneaky good team. The heals (all three characters can heal people) and the AP steal/destruction from Odin and Monica really makes a huge difference. Silk seems like a weak character until you start getting her enough AP to trigger all her abilities. With Odin making everyones levels on their abilities higher, Silk can spam out 7 attack tiles while also taking out the enemies. Those attack tiles start to make everyone hit hard. Monica has probably been my favorite part of the team so far. SWORD strike is a great way to generate AP and also get rid of Mantis stun tiles, her Undercover operation (especially when boosted to level 5 with Odin) is really REALLY good because for 6 purple AP it makes enemies powers cost a lot more to fire, it does a lot of damage if they do fire one, and if they can't fire one, she steals a lot of AP....which just feeds into Silk and Odin. Silk and Monica also synergize with Odin a lot because of their ability to generate fortified tiles with ease. I don't even have Odin very high level yet (330 with 3/1/1) but it's beating a lot of teams right now on offense and holds on defense. Obviously it falls to champed level 5*'s like Collosus and SW, but for a player who's only been playing since December 2020, I'm pretty happy to be in the top 20 of this event right now at shield level 9 rank.5

running the loaner Shang-Chi with Wanda and Yellowjacket changes everything. I wish I had a blue on my SC; should be good after operation spider silk drops those shards but it won’t help me here.0 -
I'll jump in to all of this 5* talk with some 4* insights:
I've been playing a lot over the past year, and as such I've been getting covers for the newest 4* characters, so I've been focusing on champing them. So when I saw this event, I was giddy to play it because I have all but 2 (Elsa and Red G) either champed or fully covered. My 5*s are moderately covered for this one, but since I played SCL9 I hardly used them at all. I finished 3rd in my slice, and here's what I found:
Silk was easily the star. Her healing and damage output once her abilities started rolling in saved me tons of health packs. I rolled to the final 8 wins to get to 75 this morning, and I used a total of 3 health packs because my team was at about 25% health after about 5 games.
Mantis was the next star, for stun-locking the opposing team, and occasional healing of my team. I'm getting better about setting up when to match her green sleep! tile so that I can finish off the last enemy (she heals said enemy every 3 turns, so sometimes it can be tough to finish them when the sleep tile is still on the board.)
And Morbius was my 3rd. Combined with Mantis, I was actively hunting any enemy special tiles. His purple trap tiles dealt quite a bit of damage, and his own blue healing was nice if I didn't have SIlk handy. If I did, I used the blue ap for her rather than Morbius. I do love running Morbius.
Scorpion was surprisingly good in this event. His offense was un-matched in the 4* tier. And champed he has enough health to be very effective.
Lizard was strong, too. God help you if you let one of his R-complex tiles reach the top of the board, as just one would often wipe the target off of the board instantly. Tail Whip stuns were a pain to play against, especially if the enemy had Mantis as well. And his green was big team damage as well.
Beast was good, but with his passive adding protect tiles to the board, the enemy Mantis and/or Morbius didn't mind that at all. But Beast was fairly effective in this event. His teammates would rather have the blue ap, though (Silk, Morbius) and his green ap (Scorpion, Lizard, Mantis), so he wasn't the best to bring to the table. But he worked well when health packs were low.
Hydra stomper, I did surprisingly well with. His ap generation was nice, and his green board shake up was effective at times.
Loki and Throg I played together, but didn't do very well with them. Fun, niche, but not very effective for me."
Kate Pryde did well for me. She can hand out some damage, and save you some with her protects as well. I did well with her in the lineup.
Monica was equally as good, if not better than Kate. Her passive dropping down the board was great, and her red is crazy good (especially with Hydra Stomper's ap generation). Purple worked well to counter enemy powers, so she was a good one to bring in this event.
My Red Guardian is only 1/1/3, so I never used him, but in facing against him, I didn't mind when he threw out protect tiles, as it was another special tile for me to match with Morbius and/or Mantis. His stun was annoying, though, especially when paired with the other stunners in the group.
Elsa for me is 3/2/3, so I ran her sparingly against champed 4s. She did about as well as expected for me, and when facing others, I won some and lost some, so I can't really give a good description of her effectiveness.
So, there's my assessment of the 4*s for this event. Like I said, I finished 3rd in my scl9 slice, using primarily these characters, and my top 3 were my workhorses.3 -
I ended up just walking away after 900pts. I just didn't want to burn the HP on health to try and push to 1200. I saved out at 817pts and finished 44th, a position that would ordinariy have been a 1200+pt save out, so it looks like I wasn't the only one. In fact, checking the t10 scores, the 10th place SCL10 score was 1271 (tied with 9th) and the 1st place score was 1580. Obviously it's off-season, which is historically lower, but when they are this punishing it was extra low...0
