How are y'all getting a Shang-Chi loaner? I just have a loaner Adam Warlock, Morbius, and Throg in mine.

They seem to rotate somehow, not quite sure how it works but I have had various options.

Sometimes these are different for each of the 3 nodes.

Shang-Chi is probably a really good pick for this event, since you can use him to go infinite after he knocks out the SW tile.  It'll be a little harder to go infinite with a loaner, though, because his red destroys fewer tiles and purple charges fewer tiles too.

Otherwise, I don't think there's a good counter for the Defensive Duo, and since I expect to see them in 100% of fights, these are gonna be some long matches.  I might try out my Shang-Chi at 3/1/3, but I have a feeling I'll give up pretty quick.

My Odin was Ko’d in 1 turn because I went after a loaner 111 Shang Chi , which on the first move the AI did a cascade of 5 consecutive red or purple match 5’s. After 3 turns ( all red or purple matches ) I retreated .

That was it, I always just grind the node in the bottom left. Not sure why but it’s just ergonomically how I play. Shang-Chi is on the bottom right and Wanda is at the top.

running the loaner Shang-Chi with Wanda and Yellowjacket changes everything. I wish I had a blue on my SC; should be good after operation spider silk drops those shards but it won’t help me here.

I'll jump in to all of this 5* talk with some 4* insights:

I've been playing a lot over the past year, and as such I've been getting covers for the newest 4* characters, so I've been focusing on champing them. So when I saw this event, I was giddy to play it because I have all but 2 (Elsa and Red G) either champed or fully covered. My 5*s are moderately covered for this one, but since I played SCL9 I hardly used them at all. I finished 3rd in my slice, and here's what I found:

Silk was easily the star. Her healing and damage output once her abilities started rolling in saved me tons of health packs. I rolled to the final 8 wins to get to 75 this morning, and I used a total of 3 health packs because my team was at about 25% health after about 5 games.

Mantis was the next star, for stun-locking the opposing team, and occasional healing of my team. I'm getting better about setting up when to match her green sleep! tile so that I can finish off the last enemy (she heals said enemy every 3 turns, so sometimes it can be tough to finish them when the sleep tile is still on the board.)

And Morbius was my 3rd. Combined with Mantis, I was actively hunting any enemy special tiles. His purple trap tiles dealt quite a bit of damage, and his own blue healing was nice if I didn't have SIlk handy. If I did, I used the blue ap for her rather than Morbius. I do love running Morbius.

Scorpion was surprisingly good in this event. His offense was un-matched in the 4* tier. And champed he has enough health to be very effective.

Lizard was strong, too. God help you if you let one of his R-complex tiles reach the top of the board, as just one would often wipe  the target off of the board instantly. Tail Whip stuns were a pain to play against, especially if the enemy had Mantis as well. And his green was big team damage as well.

Beast was good, but with his passive adding protect tiles to the board, the enemy Mantis and/or Morbius didn't mind that at all. But Beast was fairly effective in this event. His teammates would rather have the blue ap, though (Silk, Morbius) and his green ap (Scorpion, Lizard, Mantis), so he wasn't the best to bring to the table. But he worked well when health packs were low.

Hydra stomper, I did surprisingly well with. His ap generation was nice, and his green board shake up was effective at times.

Loki and Throg I played together, but didn't do very well with them. Fun, niche, but not very effective for me."

Kate Pryde did well for me. She can hand out some damage, and save you some with her protects as well. I did well with her in the lineup.

Monica was equally as good, if not better than Kate. Her passive dropping down the board was great, and her red is crazy good (especially with Hydra Stomper's ap generation). Purple worked well to counter enemy powers, so she was a good one to bring in this event.

My Red Guardian is only 1/1/3, so I never used him, but in facing against him, I didn't mind when he threw out protect tiles, as it was another special tile for me to match with Morbius and/or Mantis. His stun was annoying, though, especially when paired with the other stunners in the group.

Elsa for me is 3/2/3, so I ran her sparingly against champed 4s. She did about as well as expected for me, and when facing others, I won some and lost some, so I can't really give a good description of her effectiveness.

So, there's my assessment of the 4*s for this event. Like I said, I finished 3rd in my scl9 slice, using primarily these characters, and my top 3 were my workhorses.

I ended up just walking away after 900pts. I just didn't want to burn the HP on health to try and push to 1200. I saved out at 817pts and finished 44th, a position that would ordinariy have been a 1200+pt save out, so it looks like I wasn't the only one. In fact, checking the t10 scores, the 10th place SCL10 score was 1271 (tied with 9th) and the 1st place score was 1580. Obviously it's off-season, which is historically lower, but when they are this punishing it was extra low...

Once I started treating Beast as a AP factory and Silk as a strike tile generator (with a sweet passive) I found they had a lot of synergy. Scorpion made a insanely great third as I could finish whomever off once they were reduced to 8-10k hp (I did not champ him, but was very tempted to as he would make a good partner for Apocalypse). Against Mantis I held off firing Silk's blue or black until she was ready to be finished off. Still, I did relatively poorly this event since it took me a while to figure out an effective strategy.
