Well. In this game, they could also be used as the backbone of a highly interesting circle of COALITION events!

Are you suggesting something along the lines of Dragon War, where an Uncommon planeswalker would get their ability added to your loyalty ability?

Because that's an interesting direction to think in.

    Actually
I thought about a pve event where those walkers are used as encounters - the design is done, the abilities could be transferred and their static effects could be used for the node effects (which I never really cared about or enjoyed).
But I'd also welcome what you're suggesting.

my question is if arlin is coming back, how can we use her effectively if all the werewolves are legacy sets? (sorry if this has been asked already)

Well this version of Arlinn also helps regular wolves.  So she won't be completely useless.
But yeah, she'll definitely be pretty useless

Her new card cares about wolves, as far as standard is concerned, because there are currently no werewolves in paper standard either. This makes sense considering that there aren't werewolves on other worlds we know of. Their transformation is linked to Innistrad's moon. Even in her own lore, Arlinn got stuck off Innistrad in werewolf form, and had to learn how to control her own transformations in order to get back home.

I do hope, now that we're seeing how so many of these can be translated into supports, that they rework cards that should have cared about planeswalkers in your library, like Assemble the Gatewatch, to find planeswalkers instead of creatures.
