3.2 Release Notes

General Changes

We've got plenty of new content coming your way in the 3.2 build: new features, new updates, a new Planeswalker, a new event, and plenty of bug fixes! Check out all the details below.

New Feature: Player Profile

First off, for those of you that haven't read the Magic: the Gathering - Puzzle Quest - 3 Year Anniversary blog post, then what are you waiting for! There's some awesome info about from the development team that you don't want to miss out on, including the initial announcement of Player Profile.

For those of you that have already read it, it's time for Player Profile to arrive in 3.2! Now you can track your progress, show off your best decks, and even receive special rewards based on your level!

New Setting: Card Visual Aid

As a new player, getting used to all the different cards and effects MTGPQ has to offer can be...daunting at first. Conversely, veteran players spend enough time piecing together intricate decks and deliberating cunning strategies that they already know practically every card detail and effect like the back of their hand. This is where the Card Visual Aid comes in.

The new Card Visual Aid setting allows for players to enjoy MtGPQ the way that best suits them, and seeks to improve the player experience when casting cards and triggering effects. Need more time to read and understand each card and effect when they occur? Not a problem! Think too much time is spent watching cards and effects pop up, instead of playing? We've got you covered too!

    We've added Expert and Master decks to the Planeswalkers that were missing them. Play around with their new decks to see if you can figure out the strategy with each one!

    New Event: Tour de Ravnica

    "The City of Ravnica is a metropolis so vast that its name has long since become synonymous with the entire plane. It is here, amid the mazes of streets and towering Gothic spires, that Ravnica's guilds vie for power. Each of the ten guilds has mastered two of the five colors of mana, resulting in dramatically different cultural identities and functions."

    Tour de Ravnica is a Standard, PvE, non-Coalition event with 5 sequential encounters, one for each Guild represented in Guilds of Ravnica. Each guild will have a special indestructible Support featured in their encounter:
    • Nivix, Aerie of the Firemind
      • Overload (Blue, Red) - Whenever a player casts a spell, for each spell in their graveyard, the opponent's Planeswalker takes 1 damage.
    • Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion
      • Battalion (White, Red) - At the beginning of each player's turn, if that player controls three or more creatures, those creatures gain Double Strike and +2/+0 until end of turn.
    • Vitu-Ghazi, the City-Tree
      • Populate (White, Green) - When a creature token you control enters the battlefield, it is Reinforced. When a non-token creature you control enters the battlefield, that creature gets +1/+1.
    • Duskmantle, House of Shadow
      • Cipher (Blue, Black) - Whenever a player casts a non-copy spell, if they control a creature, create a copy of that spell. It gains mana equal to that player's first creature's toughness.
    • Svogthos, the Restless Tomb
      • Scavenge (Black, Green) - Whenever a creature dies, the first opposing creature gets +X/+X, where X is the destroyed creature's power.

    Event Changes

    Battle of Four Tribes is back in 3.2, but this time with a brand new appearance! Similar to how Oath of the Gatewatch has a Part 1 and Part 2 event, Battle of Four Tribes will now be split into 2 separate 2-Day events! (Note: Banner artwork for both events will be the same. This will be updated in 3.3)
    • Battle of Four Tribes Part 1
    • Battle of Four Tribes Part 2
    Training Grounds. It's a great event to test out new decks or strategy, but it can be a hassle waiting for the specific event format you want to appear. Not anymore! Starting in 3.2, both Legacy and Standard Training Grounds events will be scheduled daily!
    • In order to avoid potential server issues from both events starting and ending at the same time, the duration of each event has been reduced from 24hrs to 22hrs.
      • New Times for Training Grounds (Standard): 00:01 UTC - 22:01 UTC
      • New Times for Training Grounds (Legacy): 01:59 UTC - 23:59 UTC
    • Both events will also have the same, new event rewards:

    Bug Fixes

    • The specific button to rearrange the cards in the player's hand is no longer missing.
    • An infinite loop no longer occurs when casting a Support that buffs a Creature after summoning at least two Creatures with Vigilance, while the opponent controls a Support that Disables the first Creature the player controls.
    • The player's Planeswalker now retains 'Prevent Damage' when one Lich's Mastery Support gem is destroyed while there are multiple Lich's Mastery Support gems on the board.
    • Kraul Harpooner's ability no longer remains inactive when casting Kraul Harpooner while there are zero Creatures in the player's graveyard.
    • Part of the card destruction animation no longer displays in the middle of the screen when summoning a non-Angel token while Divine Visitation is on the board.
    • A near-infinite loop no longer occurs when casting Blue Sun's Zenith with both Stitch in Time and Expansion//Explosion in the deck while Blue Sun's Zenith is the first card in the player's Graveyard.
    • Players now draw a card, instead of fetching the top card of their deck, when one of the player's Djinn's Wish Support token is destroyed.
    • The player's first Creature is now given to the opponent, instead of being destroyed, when casting Switcheroo while the opponent controls three Creatures on the battlefield.
    • Gems are no longer converted to the opponent's Planeswalker's colors when beginning the turn while Primal Wellspring was on the board.
    • Vigilant Angel tokens now receive Trostani Discordant's buff when Trostani Discordant enters the battlefield while there are no Vigilant Angel tokens on the battlefield with Divine Visitation on the board.
    • An extra non-Angel Creature Token is no longer created when creating one or more non-Angel Creature Tokens while Divine Visitation and Anointed Procession are on the board.
    • An infinite loop no longer occurs when summoning a Zombie Token while Divine Visitation and Open the Graves are on the Board and Graveyard Marshal is on the Battlefield.
    • The Creature in the player's first position is now given to the opponent, instead of reinforcing, when casting Switcheroo while both players have the same Creature in the first position.
    • An opponent's Creature with five or less Toughness will no longer remain on the battlefield when casting Warping Wail while there are six or more Void gems on the board.
    • Opponents are no longer able to cast Spell cards until the beginning of the player's next turn when the opponent draws a Spell card after Azor, the Lawbringer enters the player's battlefield on the previous turn.
    • Soul-Scar Mage's ability no longer remains inactive when casting a Spell while the opponent controls no Creatures.
    • Squee, the Immortal is now considered summoned when Squee, the Immortal returns to the battlefield after being destroyed.
    • Grunn, the Lonely King's ability now activates when attacking while the player controls no other Creatures and Grunn, the Lonely King has one or more reinforcements.
    • Mirror Image is no longer an invalid target to copy when Mirror Image enters the battlefield.
    • The Haste Evergreen is no longer missing when a Colorless Token Creature is created by a Creature's effect while Forerunner of Slaughter is on the battlefield.
    • If the player doesn't have any creatures on the battlefield when the AI uses Beacon Bolt, it will now target the player's Planeswalker, instead of itself.
    • The additional buff is no longer missing when reinforcing Venerated Loxodon.
    • District Guide now activates when it is summoned from outside the player's hand.
    • Naru Meha, Master Wizard's effect now activates when Naru Meha, Master Wizard enters the battlefield from anywhere other than the player's hand.
    • If the player's hand is full, then Radical Idea will no longer be able to be cast from the player's graveyard if it had full mana.
    • Resplendent Angel is now destroyed, instead of being reinforced, when Resplendent Angel's toughness is reduced to zero after blocking an opponent's Creature while Resplendent Angel has Lifelink.
    • Forest Tokens will now appear when casting a creature with Leader, while it was affected by Nissa, Worldwaker’s Worldwake ability, and while there is at least one token of the creature’s Leader type on the battlefield.
    • Creatures with the Prevent Damage Evergreen are now destroyed when casting Tragic Arrogance.
    • The Pacifist objective now only tracks when the player destroys an opponent's Creatures. 
    • Players no longer only receive Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran, instead of the Guild-specific exclusive card, when earning the 60 point reward in Rising Tensions Events.
    • Ixalan cards are valid when viewing the available sets in any Standard event.
    • Fixed some Text Issues.

      The visual aid thingy sounds like a speed up animation effect? If so, that's great.
      The master and expert decks were likely a waste of time - except if you have follow up plans.

      Sarkhan the Broken will be interesting.. Lots of good stuff - but still no new coalition event, so I can't look really forward to it :(

      Wow, awesome changes!

      Quick question:  Why is the new Ravnica event using the same guilds as Rising Tensions?  Shouldn't it have the other 5 coming in Ravnica Allegiance?  Or will Rising Tensions have the 5 new guilds and the new event will cover the 5 we are "losing"?  

      Also, while I appreciate the new non-coalition event and the removal of BoFT from the coalition PvE cycle, I am concerned about the future of Coalition events.  We now only have 3 Coalition PvE events (Avacyn's Madness, RoTGP, and A World Reborn), and 2 of them are EXTREMELY old and over-done (and AWR is super short).

      Are there any plans for more new coalition events in the near future?

      @Brigby Please tell us that this is not "fixed" as fetching creatures was in a previous version. They already changed Thousand-Year Storm in the last update and made it useless.

      The solution is not to solve special cases but allowing users to control loops and limiting the number of iterations for the IA.

      I'm guessing because this event is GRN-related, and we will hopefully see it before Allegiance comes to this game? And then we'll get a new event or two for the new set?

      This confuses me too. Didn't they already change how Expansion//Explosion works? The copied Blue Sun's Zenith can't be cast on the same turn so if you gain an extra swap from Stitch in Time, you still can't cast the copied Blue Sun's Zenith. Are you guys somehow nerfing copied cards even more? The previous change made a lot of the cards that make copies almost useless.

      Yeah, something is definitely fishy about this.  Especially since we're getting 3 new Dual Colored walkers in a few weeks when Allegiance comes out (at least, we should be).

      And if they were going to bring in a completely-busted Tri-Color walker, why not just make the Tamiyo we've been asking for?  I'm not complaining (I love both Sarkhan and GR shenanigans), but the logic isn't quite adding up for me either.

      My guess is that if/when we introduce Ravnica Allegiance cards into the game, that's when players would start to see more of the other guilds.

      BoFT Parts 1 and 2 are still Coalition events, however, instead of one big event, they're two separate ones.

      I believe this near-infinite loop inherently no longer occurs due to the changes to copied cards not being able to be cast on the same turn.

      I don't get it...are you complaining?

      Personally, I'm freaking stoked about this one. The only way I could be more excited is if it was Tamiyo or Aminatou.

      Could it be that several of the bug fixes are indeed old ones?

      I am quite confused by several of them. Particularly the three different patches regarding divine makes me wonder what they did.

      Personally, I'm freaking stoked about this one. The only way I could be more excited is if it was Tamiyo or Aminatou.

      Yes, it's a complaint. We've spent 2+ years asking for Tamiyo. For 2+ years we've been told that it wasn't feasible, that they didn't have the resources, that they didn't have the time. She's part of a set that's actually in the game. The most recent Q&A claimed they didn't have the time to add her.

      But, they had the time to add the only other tri-color walker that's part of a set; from a set that was released nearly a year before Origins, and we're supposed to praise them for this backwards decision? No.

      Oh, that isn't clear in the notes.  When you say "Similar to the Oath of the Gatewatch Events" (which have a real name that nobody remembers, I believe) it is heavily implied that it is a non-coalition list-format PvE event.  It should say that it is still a coalition event somewhere.

      Also, please don't scare me with that "if Ravnica Allegiance comes into the game" line.  I know nothing has been officially confirmed (for whatever dumb reason) but the only reason Allegiance would NOT come into the game would be some sort of catastrophic failure.  I hope that's not happening any time soon.

      Only thing Im not liking is the 2 TG together everyday, especially as you have kept them at 4 wins for the rewards, should either still be at 15 crystals each for the 4th win or reduce them both to only 3 wins for crystals its to much, plus it was only a 1 day wait for the other day to come around again just silly really.

      You don't have to do it every day. If you just do one event its only 5 crystal less like now. Now it's easier to skip TG event.
