Strike tile cascading nerf?

edited November 2013 in MPQ General Discussion
Seems like strike tiles (i.e. from Daken) now add to damage, then divided by cascading damage, rather than dividing then adding.

This results in a huge loss of damage from cascades.

  • Sucks to be me!
  • Speaking as someone who abused Rags and Daken during the dark avengers tournament, and continued to afterwards, I fully approve of this change. I think the dynamics of the game needed a bit of a change to encourage diversity of strategies. Agreed?

I think Daken was fine as was. Now he is pretty ****.
  • It's funny Daken gets the nerfbat but Ragnarok is still godlike. It's probably because the devs would rather piss off free players than paying players.
  • I notice that the nerfs from this patch affect characters free players will have - Classic Storm, Daken, Wolverine. Also there is a tournament that is mostly aimed at people who've spent lots of money on the game. Combined with the increase in cost for cover space, this seems like a desperate attempt to get people to buy IAP.

Watch thor's red move get increased to 8 and yellow increased to 15 (at max covers) in the next patch.

don't think they specifically aimed at characters, they just nerfed the way strike tiles were working (pve event kinda shows the bonkerism of daken's strike tiles and cascading)

i wouldn't call it op tho so nothing really to fix, it was probably indirect fix, from fixing something else.

The cascading damage from Daken strike tiles was a rare, welcomed event that justified having him on a team.

This patch slides him into the low end of heroes easiily. Wolverine is still useful because he actually can use the tiles he collected for damage purposes.

Did you ever pair him with ragnarok and trigger 4 or more green matches for 2 red ap, doing 2k damage? If it was a rare event, then its not as big of a nerf as you seem to think. I don't know, maybe we just have different viewpoints of this.

I think that problem is easily fixed by nerfing Ragnarok and not Daken.

But of course the devs dont want to anger wallet warriors

Firstly, I find it mildly insulting that you refer to people who support the game we all enjoy as wallet warriors. I spent 30 bucks on a game I've probably logged 50 hours on. I earned most of my covers through tournaments.
Secondly, I still don't find this to be a nerf, just a change in dynamics. He still adds a large amount of damage quickly and pretty easily. You just won't find game breaking damage on a cascade anymore.
  • I find it amusing that "wallet warriors" come out in support of nerfs to free characters - of course they are going to support such changes, it only increases their advantage.

If you got a max rags for only $30 i applaud your luck or dedication.
  • Couple of lucky heroic draws, a thunder token reward, a few nefarious tokens, and two top 2 finishes in lightening rounds. Easy. Still, I don't see how this is a nerf to daken or wolverine. Again, it still adds damage to each match. It just diminishes the way cascades were always meant to.

Ragnarok with Thunderclap was the first cover I obtained out of the 150 HP Heroic, earned from the rewards in the Prologue, H.A.M.M.E.R., a couple days after release.

My first was a legendary wolverine (yellow), second was a red Rags. I rode those two to a bunch of tourney wins. icon_e_smile.gif

My second was yellow Hood. Then bag man. Then I made my first in-game purchase. I had to get the blue hood ability and green rag ability. I hated bag man after that. I got so many bag man covers.

I got my green legendary wolverine with my first heroic token. I had given up on trying to get any covers for him.

I'm with you on hating bag man. I have a 2 0 2 wolverine now. If I could get that red I'd be happily using him but as is he is a dusty fellow in my bag
  • Hell, this was part of the strategy when using strike tile-based characters: looking for multiple matches.

And I find it amusing that F2Ps insult people by calling them "wallet warriors".

Next tournament should be so called Wallet Warriors vs Keyboard Warriors, something else people can have a moan about!
