    Great replies, everyone.

I think it's interesting how, for a lot of people, that first 4-star champ is the one they remain fond of and remember as the character that changed the game for them in a positive way. My first 4-star champ was XFW and he was a dud, I rarely used him outside of boss events.

Hulkbuster was the first real change for me, followed by CoulHawk, then of course Gambit and now ThOkoye.

When Dr. Strange first debuted I was champing the last of the 3-stars and ready to make my 4-star transition. Roster-based scaling was still a thing in PvE and goons 50-100 levels higher than my best characters were actually threatening. When Strange came along he really changed my game and the PvE experience for the better, as I imagine he's done for a lot of PvE players. Since that time I've champed all but a dozen of the 4-stars and champed four 5-stars, entering that realm of play. But still, 3-star Strange is part of my regular rotation. Just this past weekend in the new Places of Power event I found myself faced off against many, many goons. Especially Mindless Ones and those cursed Symbiotes (for which Dr. Strange seemed to have been created for). There he was, side-by-side with Okoye for many of those battles, doing what he does best. It occurred to me how remarkable of an addition he was to MPQ.

Which character made the biggest impact on your play? It doesn't have to be someone you use now, but a fond friend from the past who had a lasting impression on the way you played.
yeah, 3* Strange sure hung out with Chavez and Okoye a lot last weekend

Jean buster helped launch me into 4* land in pvp, but Teen Jean transformed pve far more than Hulkbuster. Paired with Scarlet Witch, I feared very few nodes.

More recently, Thanos changed things massively; the time taken to do pve dropped big time, and with Panthos I had a meta double act.

Without a doubt Teen Jean.  She was one of my first champ 4* and I rode her and Scarlet Witch until I champed some 5*s.  Just collect pink and then do AE damage while wiping out countdowns and special tiles.
DING! DING! DING!  We have a winner!  She's still one of my favorite 4-stars.  Teisatsu attack tiles got you down?  BOOM!  Not any more.

5trange was my first champed 5-star, and he makes goon nodes go by so much faster.  Thanos is my most recent 5-star champ, and his boost in the Strange Sights event let me do full clears in about half an hour (and he only took out about 65-70 of my characters doing it!)  But 5-star Thor at half health is a real game changer...start humming Immigrant Song whenever he reaches 50% health.

I’m in the same boat as you, XFW was my second 4* champ with Invisible Woman being the first. So for a long time I still got more use out of boosted 3* champs.
Its not so surprising people fondly remember their first 4* champ as the 4* tier is where most people feel they can actually compete in MPQ rather than just participate.

Peter Parker Spider-Man changed my game, because he was my first 5* champ. I had Thanos covered for several months, but he was soft capped. I knew that champing a 5* would change my MMR, so I held off. But the bane of my existence at the time reared her pretty head yet again when Peggy went into the boosted rotation. My Peggy was at 2/5/5 for almost a year, and I always dreaded fighting her in 4* land. As I stared at my fully covered Spidey, I decided enough was enough, and champed him. Poor Peggy didn't stand a chance against the Amazing Spider-Man and his awesome kit! I was blown away at the damage output of my first 5* champ. I champed Thanos soon after, and never looked back. Spidey will always be one of my favorites for this reason.

Ditto.  Allowed me to punch way above my weight class for a long long time (until I champed 5* Thor).

Surprisingly Vision was my first 3*, his extra damage carried me through lots of fights. Then XFW was my 1st 4* and his regen was a mechanic I based my whole game around. Then got Rulk and it got easier and easier until Grocket came out and I focused on him, BH'd to finish and got him to 363 atm.

Finally Gambit was the character I used to move to 5* land. Thor is the driver for the current meta and he's lightning fast, but Okoye has almost eliminated the need for HPs.

While it wasn’t the meta my first two 4* champs were Gamora and Cloak and Dagger. They changed my experience tremendously, and allowed me to hit 900 in every Pvp since then (January 18).

Hulkbuster was the first I remember, because he was my first 4* champ.

Jean Grey was the next.  With Switch as a battery they were the first team I had that could easily handle goon nodes with crazy scaring.

Then OML.  I got a couple yellow covers early, and used him in 90% of my battles for a year, even after his nerf.

Vulture was a big one too.  He let me handle SL9 PVE even without 5* champs.

5* Thanos and Hawkeye helped too, but I don’t think they were as big as the others mentioned above.

3* - HTorch - 1st champ and long time work horse until...
Cyk3 - used him with mags FTW along side.....
Strange - would pair with Cyk3 with the essential and was how I started placing in top 50 scl 7 PvE. THEN switch out Cyke back to HTorch when I champed....
C4rol - back before repeaters existed, HT's green combined with Carol and Coulson allowed my to punch WAY above my weight. I got by on buffed strikes throughout the 4*tier. Though in different ways with different characters. 1-turn CDs went away so I started using Medusa and Grocket with Carol. I actually liked this team more than Grocket , Gamora, Medusa. That tier meta defining trio could be the fastest team in SIM, OR you could 4 or 5 of of the strikes in the first turn and then you had a battle that dragged on. At least with Carol, if Grocket's strikes got matched, Medusa's CD would go off and C4rol would buff the remaining, then Nico hit the scene, Grocket, Gamora, and Nico became my go to up until.....

Okoye! - all Hail the queen. Not unbeatable, BUT makes everyone around her better, and true heals. My first and currently only 5 * champ (JJ is around the corner with yesterday's announcement)

I'm only early 3*, but the 2* character that made the most difference to me was Magneto. I was already using 2* Black Widow for her blue power delaying enemy countdowns to make goon fights manageable, adding Magneto's purple power for controlled creation of blue tiles put me in the position of very, very seldom getting hit by any countdowns.

3* Strange - I still use him every PvE with goons, whether or not he's boosted.
3* Thanos - quick burn down on the DDQ wave node, ultra-fast Lightning round clears if I only have (literally) two minutes to play
4* R&G + GotG member - really helps speed up clears during PvE. I used 3Strange/4R&G/4Gam exclusively through Places of Power, and it enabled me to punch through fights fast.

Tier three Destroyer Gun/Element Guns/Shur's Lab at level 100 have also helped a lot, fortifying special tiles many times during an average match.

Strange was the biggest one, without question. In particular, my first run through Venom Bomb with Strange (and Roster-based Scaling) was a night and day difference from Venom bomb without him.
Thanos and Grockamora help with speed, they make easy things trivial and moderate things easy, but they don't make the impossible possible like Strange did.
I've always had hit or miss results with battery characters. I like Vulture best of them, because he keeps himself safe in the process, but I've still gone through multiple fights in a row without managing a single black match.

the team that got me through 3* and up into 4* was 3* cage, fist and switch.

I used that team religiously as soon as I had all three fully covered, even if they weren't boosted.

My first champed 3* and 4* was Deadpool.

Medusa has had an enormous impact on my roster, when I think about 4-stars. Whether she was double-dipping strike tiles with the ubiquitous Grocket + Gamora to speed up PvE clears, or assisting 3-star Hawkeye in taking out over-scaled symbiotes, I used her a ton when in 4-star land. I still use her almost every day because teaming her with Okoye is like playing in auto-mode. Medusa was one of those game-changing characters for me.

Another one was Peggy. As soon as I had her champed I felt like I could take on any team in either PvE or PvP. As long as she was with an accelerator (IM40 and Vulture were common teammates) matches were resolved quickly and decisively. She's probably the character I miss playing with the most since moving to 5-star land.
