Why I won't buy Lyra Dawnbringer...

I was very tempted.  She is a highly efficient creature with a lot to like!  A good body, excellent evergreens, and exceptional synergies with other angels.  She also comes with a great rare in Shalai.  Pair that combo with Serra Wings and we are talking a seriously strong setup.

I clicked on the package, I clicked on the purchase button.... and when it asked for my password I came to an abrupt realization.  I would primarily run her in H2.  And, I have an amazing Dino's deck that I use frequently.  I also have a vampires deck that I use in a lot of events.  Similar story with other white planeswalkers.  So, I didn't have enough deck slots to save an angels deck.  So why buy her?  I exited the game and feel like I made the right decision.

That's right... I didn't buy Lyra because I only have 2 deck slots!  --  BTW... not paying 20 crystals for one.  Oh well, guess you guys just don't like revenue.

Another reason is that you can get the real thing for 11$ https://shop.tcgplayer.com/magic/dominaria/lyra-dawnbringer
Why a digital copy should cost more than that?
This is making the assumption that you would only play one Lyra, and that you have all other cards necessary for the deck you would play your one Lyra in. I suspect if you want one Lyra, you may want 1-3 more, which means if you don't already have them, you need to shell out $11 x number of Lyra in the deck. Repeat this for all other cards in the paper deck you're playing, and I bet you'll fine that 10 one-offs cost less.

I'm a fan of reducing the cost of a digital card in a digital card game as well, because I think prices in MTGPQ are outrageous. This isn't the argument that makes the most sense, though. Can't compare apples and pineapples just because they both have apple in the name.

You realize there are planeswalkers other than Huatli that could make good use of Lyra, right.....?

I bought her because my Elspeth deck was already almost entirely angels with vigilance, so giving them all +1/+1 and first strike makes the deck even more powerful. My only hesitation was that there are only 9 creatures in standard right now with the angel subtype, and of those, three are mythic rare, and one is a masterpiece. But then I remembered that in our upcoming Return to Return to Ravnica: The Returnining sets, we're going to see angels as they play a prominent role in the red-white guild, and have made appearances in the black-white guild as well. So I expect she will be more valuable later than she appears to be right now.

Wait, there are other white walkers?

You missed the point entirely, but that's ok.. you just wanted to say your thing about Ravnica angels.

Incidentally, I do agree with gogo that a $30 price tag for digital content that would make my 66th standard mythic is an absurd amount.  But I am fortunate enough to be able to handle that price.  However, I decided not to because there wasn't room for me to make the deck I desired and keep it semi-permanent.  Just pointing out a really poorly designed reason to lose a sale.

They tried to be greedy with their pay-for-deck slots concept,  and it ended up losing them money.

No my point was more it sounded like you thought only Huatli could use her. Something I find interesting considering that there are no green angels you couldn't run in any other white planeswalker, and none of them are currently playable in standard. <shrug>

It just seemed like limited perspective on how one might run the card is all. To me, she seems like a slightly powered down version of Gisela when used on her own, which would mean she's likely be able to shine in decks that used to run her. Nahiri, for example, would probably make great use of her. I could see her in that deck comboing with Saving Grace to make a pretty unstoppable wall against oncoming attackers.

I feel like the barrier between f2p and purchases is too large: you can pay 0 and enjoy a buggy game and feeling it reasonable for something that's free or you can pay literally hundreds to have something a little earlier than the other players, that is often bugged, sometimes nerfed and eventually rotated out of standard.
And I bought bolas, karn, angrath and imminent doom. Enjoy your new lyra guys: is she 6/6 or 7/7?

She's a 7/7 first strike, lifelink. She also gives other angels +1/+1, first strike, and lifelink. So at most she adds 9 power to the board. It's the first strike and lifelink I think are going to be the real win for her, though.

I'm still dealing with the karn package disappointment.

I am shocked.  I literally told you my point and you still missed it. If it helps, you can extrapolate from my story that I already have 2 great decks for each white pw that I don't want to save over. Now do you get my point? If I want to save 20 decks they should let me... Wth is the point of restricting it?

You never said you had decks you didn’t want to override for ALL your white planeswalkers. Just GW Huatli. But it’s fine. If you chose not to pick her up now because of deck slot restrictions, I guess I understand.

Me, I’m thinking ahead and gambling that she’ll have more value later when more angels are introduced to the game, and after dinos and white vamps rotate out of standard.

I'm playing her in Teferi -- the extra deckslot is discounted.

I refrain to buy single cards, because I don't need another fat beater. If there would be sweet build around cards to buy, I may think about it, but it's way more fertile spending money on a Planeswalker, because you can play around with them and the hundreds of thousands of cards you have already.

She might work well with the core set coming, it contains several angels. However, i understand the point of view of the deck slots missing. It's really boring to gather your deck for each new event and more good card means more flavorful decks you'll have to gather again and again.

I agree about the deck slots and have asked if they intend to do anything about it in multiple Q&A's.  They made one token reduction, which really did nothing, and have never responded to my actual questions about it.
