I guess I was reading too much into the chain whip power description. It says “remove all chain whips on the field”. So I thought I could get more than 1 chain whip on the field.
Nope. Can’t be done.0 -

If one is Locked, then you can create a new one. Kinda like Medusa's CD.. which is why Locking is a lousy ability0 -
Those of you in the 5* game: My gho5t Rider is at 4/0/2 right now, and I'm wondering if pulling strictly out of latest to try and get him up to 13 covers would be a good idea if he were my first/only champion. Right now I have several 5*s in the 6 cover range, but Robbie is my only "latest" who I could actively meaningfully chase. Is this a good idea or a bad idea at this stage? I have 18 4* champs, and maybe 3 more waiting on Iso, with a bunch in the 10-12 cover spread. JJ/Lumbercap/Gho5t Rider seems like a decent (if not stellar) group of 5s to do this on, and I have a raft of 3* characters that are on the verge of giving out LTs in the near future, so I'm as poised as I've ever been to try it.0

First thing, GRRR will remain in tokens for another 6 weeks MAX, the odds you generate enough LT's/CP to pull 7 covers by then are pretty low unless you have a big stash already.
Depends what you play mainly. He's great in PVE, not built for PVP (he's quite slow, especially the green which is his best power).
I would NOT make him my only 5* champ.
That said, I find him really enjoyable, his powers all hit pretty hard, his match damage surpasses even 5* Thor and he's a lot of fun to play.

I appreciate that feedback; I like his art and animations quite a bit. I do spend most of my time in PVE, but I will play PVP to 575 or try and push to 900 if i need the 4*/have a boosted team. I guess what I'll do is chase latest only this season and stop spending in classics, and then if I get there, I'll have to decide what to do about dumping iso into him or not. I agree that it's unlikely I'll get another 7 covers on him in that time, but half the fun in this game is chasing unobtainable stuff lol.0

5/5/3Another thing to consider, he's really hard to judge until he's fully covered/champed. A lot of the forum members seems not very enthusiatic about him and are not chasing him for that very reason.
Just my opinion, he belongs in the top10 easily, you won't regret champing GRRR in any case that's for sure.0 -

On average, you'll need the equivalent of 3500CP to get those 7 GR covers (excluding Bonus Heroes). Divide that by 42 days; you'd need an average of 83.333...CP a day. Can you achieve that?0 -
No worries; it's not like we're trying to put a dampener on your enthusiasm. But yup, all these need to be factored in. Just continue playing at your own pace; eventually you'll definitely be in a position where getting 13-cover 5* is very much a possibility0

Oh totally, and I don't take it in that way at all. I think it's very apparent that hoarding is the way to get to 5* town. I just don't really enjoy it at those times i"ve saved up for stuff. Since i'm still working on my resource engine (still have about 15 3*s to champ), getting a champion 5* would probably stick my neck out too far anyhow. I feel like the day will come when i'm more comfortably pulling in lts/cp from champion rewards, and that will probably be the time to consider it.0

GR:RR turned out to be my first 5* after all, so it's probably worth recounting my experiences with him as a transitional 5:
By the time he left latest, I had 8 covers on him. I set him as my 5* BH, and set Bl4ze as my 4*, which ultimately didn't matter since I only got a dupe green out of that before I got him elsewise. I wasn't exclusively chasing Ghost 4ider, I was busy trying to Shield Training-Proof my roster, so I just off and on had him as my bonus. I organically pulled a Green out of classic, got a single 5* dupe bonus hero from classic, then got 2 useable 5* BHs from latest, and lucked out with a usable black from the Masked Vengeance store to make him champable - 1 year after this thread was created.
Gho5t Rider is outside both the current metas (Thor-Okoye/Kitty-4ocket) in a fairly interesting way - he isn't especially vulnerable to Kitty's tile-eating ways, unless she has a full stack of yellow, but he also doesn't make traditional specials in a way that could benefit from her on offense. Chain Whip's chip-damage benefits from Okoye, but Hell ride doesn't - and that's the one you really want to stack with it. It does do quite a bit of damage though. His 1-turn stun is situationally helpful.
My preferred build is 5/3/5.
Hell Ride: as previously mentioned, this is primarily a damage/cascade power more than an AP gen power. Each basic red/green/black it nibbles will do 3x damage and gather the AP, so if you get this power on the board more than once, you can really do consistent good damage. The tiles burn to the bottom, so a partner like Main Event who is always refreshing the board is very helpful. the repeaters are 2-turn below 5 covers, 1-turn at 5 covers which makes all the difference. There are some good 4* characters who can add green and black to the board, or generate it in the background.
Chain Whip: This move is mostly good for the 1-turn stun. I like to stun the 5*, then take out a more dangerous battery or boosted 4*. The 5* will generally hurt themselves in the background while it counts down, and let you hit them with Damnation after you move on from the partners. The second firing damage is almost never a factor
Damnation: This power is really solid. You can generally 1-shot an unboosted 4* with it, and 2-3 firings will lay out most champion 5*s if you can keep yourself flush with black AP
Teams I like in simulator, where boost lists aren't a thing, are:
Valkyrie/Domino - bounty hunter generated green for free, domino keeps the board black for damnation plus her own red nuke
main Event/Chavez- MEH is a killer, and keeps the board fresh for your hell ride tiles. Chavez makes those crits and everybody wins. Maximizing Grand Entrance is the most effective Kitty Counter I've tried so far, though it isn't 100% reliable.
Red Hulk/Chavez - Rulk here is 5/3/5, that way you get that epic board shake and maximum green generation/denial. Chavez helps the cascade nonsense.
TA Hulk/Domino is a team I suspect is good with Ghost Rider, but i've yet to champ my Cho. Cho can put greens on the board, and has a true heal that can charge black/blue tiles to acclerate Damnation - it can seem a little counter intuitive to spend black to earn black, but i've had good luck doing that with Nightcrawler. Domino can add black to the board to generally fuel this team and keep Hell Ride working.
i have a few theories about other 5*s he is going to play well with, but since none of mine are champable they remain theories. I’ve hitched my BH cart to the Chavez/JJ wagon, I still need about 60 Chavez covers to finish JJ8
