Sounds like Wizards is signaling a core set return.. perhaps when they do that PQ will replace origins with the new core set...

We should get another free deck slot if they are going to require us to use special decks for pvp
You can build a deck for the event that is saved the entire time.  That's exactly how it was in the past.  Not sure I buy the argument that they owe us a deck slot.  If you are using the same PW in 2 concurrent events just build 2 different event decks and you are done!

Another thing to consider about paper MtG; there are typically some older cards that are re-released in newer sets, right?

    Origins is Puzzle Quest's Alpha.

There are no more base sets, BTW.  Standard is now just "the last 4 blocks."

Base Set + Last 2 blocks was the way they did things when they had 3-set blocks.  Now, blocks are 2 sets.  Origins was combined with Dragons of Tarkir to form one "Block" which rotated out last September.
Origins is overall the weakest set on a whole...alpha is obserdly op. Not even close to a comparison.

Yes reprints are pretty common (as well as functional reprints - cards with a different name but exactly the same text as another card) however no reprints have occurred in PQ yet, to my knowledge.

I think that they, as soon as possible, should create an Origins2, removing some over-powered cards (TSN, Pig) and adding some staples used by existing planeswalkers (a few werewolves, some of the lifelink guys, etc). Then we´d have a more balanced environment. Truthfully, this should likely have been done before standard even started.

Decimator of the Provinces is SOI (Eldritch moon). No need to nerf anymore. ;-)

The problem with werewolves is, that they're all too rubbish, or too good. Vehicles are the same, except none of them are too good. Card balance is apparently hard.

In principle, tho, I think an 'Origins 2' set is a good idea. I imagine that WOTC will make them adhere to paper MTG releases, so the ACTUAL base set available in MTGPQ will have to be whatever the base set in paper is at the time, but I don't see a reason that MTGPQ can't introduce a supplementary list of MTGPQ:Standard legal cards, and maybe even sell boosters of them.

That's really a good idea. At least for staple cards, but not op cards. Black cheap removal, Mana changers, black discards. There's a list of cards that could still in play and don't have a huge impact being there.

I think this is not needed in paper cause the size of sets are much bigger. But in mtgpq this could be a great solution.

I'd be down with an "Origins 2", hopefully with less reprints though. I'm not sure the original Origins set in PQ is strong enough to hold up forever- they will have to update it sometime.

Tinfoil hat on: Rumors going around that WotC wants to bring back core sets in the paper game. If that happens, consider an "Origins 2"-type set a lock.

I think it would be fine if they let people play with commons and uncommons from any set, and only Mythics and Rares from the recent sets.  Or even, if there was a format where you only played with commons and uncommons.

I don't think they have the infrastructure to do this right now, so limiting the sets is a good experiment.

I mentioned this before... they should have "pauper" events that only allow commons. This would really level the playing field and let n00bs compete, while allowing more seasoned players to stretch their deckbuilding muscles.

At the very least, I'd like to see some sort of event where we play with those "beginner level" decks which are clogging up all of my deck slots.

Yeah, it could be interesting if they forced us all to play with the beginner decks. Pick whatever planeswalker you want in each color and go to town.

I'm sure we'd all love that as much as we did playing with the preconstructed Saheeli deck.

I dunno, I think our expectations wouldn't be as high for its viability as a deck that was touted as this super kick butt deck that the Saheeli precon was supposed to be.

No one complained about Saheeli vs Saheeli.

The bulk of the complaints was about saheeli's deck not having answers for the the super broken runaway carriage deck everyone and their grandmother was running.

But with Saheeli we were playing against full-power decks. If we all just played the same set of gimpy decks, it might be a hoot every now and then.

Well, I don't begrudge that experience to anyone who relishes it, but there's a reason I don't play my alt account any more.

@shteev - because you don't need to see when the last Quick Battle bracket is about to begin?
