Should I?

I live very close to the Wizards of the Coast headquarters. I've been debating going in there to talk to them about this game.

The thing is.. I'd have no idea who to talk to or what to actually say. I would absolutely be willing to go in on the community's behalf but I don't know if it would make a difference at all or what the goal would be.

Advice?

Update so you don't all have to search through this thread to see what I wrote after my visit today.

Well... I just got done talking to Matthew, the Brand and Licensing Manager of Wizards of the Coast.

I have honestly never felt more validated or appreciated as a customer in my life. He listened to all of my concerns about communication and transparency. He took vigorous notes. He ACTUALLY plays the game himself and pointed out some changes that he personally would like to see. I pointed him in the direction of these forums for more articulate feedback.

He said he's the direct line of communication to D3 and Hibernum and said he'd shoot them an email right away. Even though it's a half day at work for Wizards of the Coast employees.

This is by far the most confidence I've ever had in this game and communication taking a positive direction since I started playing a year ago. That's exactly the kind of customer service and appreciation I've come to believe Wizards has for us and I REALLY hope it can make a difference.

So if you happen to read this, Matthew... thank you so much.

just don't storm in being all angry and stuff. be all business like. icon_e_smile.gif There are a couple of posts here that have a lot of upvotes, that have summed up recent issues. wouldn't hurt to have polls/petitions to back you up.

of course i want this game to last. but d3 management needs their wrists slapped. hard.

Edit: or hibernum. not sure who actually does the managing.

Haha.. absolutely agreed. It wouldn't be in anger. More like a plea for help. I'm guessing they're entirely unaware of this game and the mass of disgruntled players here.

If I lived close I would absolutely pay them a visit.
I wouldn't know who I needed to talk to but I'm sure someone there could point me in the right direction.
Would it make a difference? What could it hurt?

I think there's a 50/50 chance this introduction of masterpieces was rushed out by wotc themselves, so keep that in mind and be respectful when asking for changes. You might be insulting the very person who pioneered the idea.

Maybe so. And just maybe they need to be insulted.

To clarify, I'm not going in with any amount of hostility or aggression. XP

I'm not even mad. Just worried. I won't insult the masterpiece cards or even the new currency. My main concerns are balance and communication.

Sounds constructive. Point them to these boards.

WoTC have a right to know that these guys have been running the MtG brand into the ground and accelerated that recently, through terrible changes, which most of the community think unreasonable.

You've hit the nail right on the head, that their biggest issues relate to the balance of the gameplay and economy and their inability to communicate clearly, constructively in a timely manner, nor take in the majority of the feedback and act appropriately.

MtG is the bigger brand not Puzzle Quest, these guys have a responsibility to understand that MtG represents intelligent gaming. Not the mess we have right now.

You can also tell them, that I have even started playing paper MTG again because of this game. Maybe this convinces them of the importance of this game for the brand MTG icon_e_smile.gif

I'd definitely go in and speak with someone from PR. don't go in complaining about D3 or Hibernum specifically as they're completely separate companies and you'll just get turned away to "speak with their customer support".

Personally i'd go in because you're "concerned with the way WotC's licence is being handled and presented to a customer base". Site some of the thing's being raised in other posts here, and that there is a lot of paper players here who are being negatively effected by the use of this licence.

This is genuinely true for me! Although, its more because I quit this and moved to that instead. So maybe wizards want it to fail so more people migrate over? icon_lol.gif

After that reply from Cthulu you should do whatever you can to bring this to wizard.

I'd say it's more likely that Masterpieces were introduced as filler until the next set. We've never had to wait this long between sets before and Amonkhet is still over a month away at least. And Masterpieces might have been the only good thing to come from this update anyway.

Back on topic, it would definitely be a good idea to go and talk to someone. If nothing else, this game is hurting the brand name of Magic: the Gathering. They don't like anything sullying their brand name.

Renton specifically. =D Was crime here always this bad? Lynnwood, huh? If you see any battery or pesticide displays at your local Walmart, I'm probably the one who built them. XP (Vendor.)

I totally think you should (and would be totally jealous of you getting to visit WotC.)

Something I would chime in is if I had never played paper MTG before and started with PQMTG I might assume paper MTG is difficult and unfair. I doubt I would pick up the paper version based off of this version.

Exactly this, paper magic brought me here. If it were the other way around and I had zero paper magic experience, this would not lead me to paper magic. At the end of the day, that is exactly the reason they have this license in the first place.
