I have been using Dovin Baan (DB) and he has been a lot of fun. I ran undefeated in the event vs Nahiri, Koth and Sorin and Lili1 deck with my toughest match against a Kiora/Drowner/TSN/Waterveil deck.

I liked the event. Prizes were runes, crystals and packs. What's not to like?

I don't understand why all the whining!

    Always boils down to entitlement.

In the past, progression rewards ended far short of maximum score, so it was easy to get and people got in the mindset that they were entitled to those packs.

But they also complained that the rewards fell too short of maximum score.

You can't have it both ways people.

I'm having a blast with this event! It's tons of fun getting to play half your hand off of one good cascade. I rarely end with more than - 35hp with my Ajani deck. The AI isn't smart enough to out race my gem matches. It's the opposite of Enraged mode, where you have no time to recover from frustrating unlucky AI cascades.

    I had a torrid first 8 games, 6 of which were Ultradaved's and 2 of Wizard's.

Almost lost to Ultradaved's AK SP/HtS/Uhydra/Bandit/Firecraft loop. I think he has devils playground in there too.

    His Kiora is similar.

Please please please do not make me go up against JKindness and his ridiculous Ob Nix deck again. Twice now I have had to wade my way through the infuriating pile of removal, discard, Behold the Beyond, Oath of Liliana shenanigans. Wanna cast a Card? Here. Have a transgress the mind. Wanna try again? Here. Have this Infinite Obliteration. Oops. Let you get a creature out. Sorry, wont happen again. Must not have been paying attention. Have this Oath of Liliana (and my token zombie will be the only creature you see from me). Get a Deploy the gatewatch off? Must have dozed off and not see you had a card in hand or I would have made you discard it. Here is a triple whammy of another oath, a to the slaughter, and a grip of desolation. I'm tired of all these cards. Let me try another trick. I'll use a behold the beyond and just get all of my inexpensive discard and removal cards back in my hand fully charged and waiting for you. icon_e_sad.gif

I've been in a few battles so far this event, and it seems that the double mana only applies to the BASE mana rates from the gems on the board and not from PW bonuses; meaning a PW with a +3 bonus would get 9 mana, not 12.

Also, I've seen some rather scary decks in Platinum tier - if you run into Chaingun's Kiora in this event... make sure you add a LOT of hard removal - otherwise you are going to deal with a rather vicious surprise in the form of a massive Prized Amalgam (he was my last match right now - eventually had to deal with an 80/80 Amalgam, and somehow still managed to win)!

That's huge! I'd love to see your list and what you think Chaingun's list was.
I'm keeping my deck a secret for the event's duration - however I do remember the critical cards from Chaingun's deck.

Prized Amalgam is the only creature in the deck - more about why in just a second. Then there's also Angel's Tomb, which gives a creature +3/+3 and flying until the beginning of your next turn when it ETB; which procs for each copy of Prized Amalgam... Most importantly, is a very obscure card: Gather the Pack. Fetch the first creature in your library (2 if there are 8+ green gems on the board), then destroy the next 4 creatures in your library. Due to how Prized Amalgam behaves... playing one turns into playing 5+ copies because of Gather the Pack!

That is nasty. I'm testing that out in qb.

I've had some good matches and some absolutely tedious matches, like Hixus with +5 shields or turn one Decimators. It's really hit or miss on whether you're gonna get a match where the oppenents deck idea seems to revolve around stalling you into a force quit haha... then again, I've hated on Stasis decks for the better part of 15 years, so I might be a wee bit biased. icon_e_wink.gif

Great event, D3! Need more of these "challenge events" where the objective is to simply play to the event's rules and there's no leader board!

As for my deck for the event - I did go flawless! Hardest match was without a doubt that Chaingun's Kiora and the absurd Prized Amalgam...

    PW: Garruk

    Creatures (2):
    Desolation Twin
    Gaea's Revenge

    Spells (5):
    Reclaiming Vines
    Scour From Existence
    Altered Ego
    Bring to Light
    Nissa's Revelation

    Supports (3):
    From Beyond
    Slayer's Plate
    Zendikar Resurgent

First of all... yeah... it's a bit of a whale. Lots of Mythics and Rares - however the event does encourage such antics due to double base mana! The event also does encourage a couple of things: card draw and "high impact" creatures. "High impact" being huge creatures that are also efficient. Desolation Twin and Gaea's Revenge is by far the best fit for this event. From Beyond and Slayer's Plate is sheer B.S. A 5/3 defender and gives you 15+ mana every time it dies?! How is that fair? At least it doesn't get doubled...

The remainder of the deck fills in the remaining elements: card draw, and burst damage.

Garruk also makes a great PW for this event due to his ability to always get a ton of mana regardless of gem colors! Also, his abilities work wonders with Zendikar Resurgent - draw four cards along with the creature tokens? Yes, please!
