I'm surprised. I've only had Lantern Scout and Veteran Warleader for about 2 weeks, as I got them both in short succession. I still don't have Sigil. Or Hixus. Yet white has been consistently competitive. They're really the cherry on top of the underlying synergies, but not necessary to make a good deck.

Gideon1 example: Consul's Lieutenant - Ondu Greathorn - War Oracle - Enlightened Ascetic - Serene Steward - Relic Seeker as the core, plus Smite the Monstrous - Enshrouding Mist - Scour from Existence. Impenetrable defense, plus lifegain and creature growth.

Gideon2 example: Kor Entanglers - Serene Steward - Expedition Envoy - Kor Castigator, plus Enshrouding Mist - Encircling Fissure - Alchemist's Vial - Smite the Monstrous - Swift Reckoning - Suppression Bonds. Aggressive, cheap deck that locks down the opponent. Hixus would be a great topper for that.
I'm in the exact same boat w White - only got Lantern Scout and Warleader relatively recently. But since the beginning I've run very successful, very cheap decks around a core of Consul's Lieutenant, Relic Seeker (or Serene Steward as an uncommon alternate/addition) and War Oracle and relying largely on Suppression Bonds and Swift Reckoning for removal. Supplement and experiment as your collection allows. There are rares that boost the efficiency of this core deck, but this is a highly effective construction that wins w mostly uncommons. And since the deck defends and heals itself, there's rarely downtime.

Almost anyone w a modest collection should be able to assemble this functional white deck. Beginners can even make cheaper common & uncommon substitutions. For example:
Alchemist's Vial/Encircling Fissure/Sheer Drop < Suppression Bonds Roil's Retribution/Roil Spout < Swift Reckoning Enlightened Ascetic < War Oracle Serene Steward < Relic Seeker Iroas' Champion - Consul's Lieutenant

I'd been Silver for the previous couple events and it was very manageable. I advanced to Gold this event for the better rewards and I can say the competition is significantly more challenging. I won 9 of my first 10 matches and felt pretty good about myself. But then I lost 4 in a row.

Loads of Mythics in Gold tier. If you're a glass half full kinda player, I can say at least I am beginning to learn about cards I've never even seen before this event. I'm not just talking about Mirrorpool or Infinite Obliteration or some big Dragons and Eldrazi, I'm seeing loads of cards I've never previously seen. A new card will flash by and suddenly everything is different and I don't know why.

The meta is different. Part of the challenge is also the variety of decks you face when your opponents have large collections of mythics & rares. You grow accustomed to familiar themes in lower tiers, but with a boatload of mythics players create entirely new synergies.

If you don't have 5 decks made mostly of powerful mythics & rares, I'd say the slightly better rewards are definitely not worth the hassle of advancing to Gold tier. Stat at silver for more fun and rewards that are only marginally less.

I love how they make you look at every card just long enough to annoy you when you already know what it does, but not long enough to read a new card.
