The event was even more enjoyable for me because of that
I'd like to join.
Ok. Just went through the forum rules and there does not appear to be any rules against posting links. But if i missed anything than sorry to the forum mods in advance

I found it already but thanks a lot anyways0 -
I'm hoping to join as gold in the next event (leveling up the cards takes a while, lol). I'm very glad I went into silver. The brackets don't have a lot of people so even if I only log on maybe once or twice a day for a few matches, mostly just to get the progression rewards, I end up with a nice reward at the end. Honestly, even the strongest PVP deck seems like a cakewalk compared to Kozilek!0

Kozilek is a walk in the park compared to some of the decks in Gold.
And for some reason most of my matches are against Kiora. The most broken so far was a Kiora with "Drowner of hope" and "From beyond" and a dozen bounce spells. Luckily I was with Ajani and I had Hoxus stacked a few times, so his drowner and scions were useless, but I was hitting him for 2-4 damage per turn becuse he kept bouncing my creatures. Did I mention he also had the green card (forgot it's name) that gives you 20 HP and you draw 5 cards? Yeah. The fight was 20 minutes long, but luckily the AI doesn't think how he could destroy my support, if it did, his 24/24 drowner and 30+ scions would've killed me in two turns...0 -
Playing gold tier is like playing casino...
Against Koth with Gideon ally.
He gets super cascade into avaricious dragon first turn... Ok
I take some damage turn after he summons zendikar reincarnation... Uhmmm better kill that with my smite.
I play some tokens...
Now all I need is either:
Disable ally
Ways to overheal his damage(I have the ally creature and the ondu rising)
Another smite monstrous
That's FOUR cards out of TEN.
This is like 40% chance to get one.
After three turns I get an ondu rising that gives me another turn of life cause meanwhile he keeps cascading and reinforcing the damn dragon up to 20+ damage....
Nothing else for me for a couple more turns...
What the hell game?! Next time you can as well crash if you decided I have to lose!
P.s and I lost the other game to kiora turn 2 16/9 hexproof
After managing to even stabilize the game literally could not just give me a colored match to get the claustrophobia in play in this turn of course(just needed 2 mana)
And I knew her first card was the op 16/9 haste that the very next turn killed me.0 -
crazy deck? no problem!
crazy cascade for ai and no meaningful draw for you? you are done!
the problem is the cascade... i feel the cascade favors ai and gets a lot worse the more wins you have in the event...
i also notice the cascade almost always happens once i assemble a sizable force on the board and ai needs a turnaround...
tbh, im a little furious...0 -

I'd smite dragon rather than zendikar incarnate. That guy can be taken down with a few of the first ability, (and it won't damage you while doing so) or a buffed up Veteran Warleader.0 -

yeah those cascades can be tough sometimes, ive had 2 closeish encoutners this pvp event, both against my koth. One was against another koth that kept cascading on me, luckily i had just enough loyalty to use his second ability for my iroas and my tyrant to sweep out his monters, i think i ended up with like 50 hp after that one. the other was against a lili who cascaded enough to clear her hand. Luckily there were like 3 dranas who are very inefficient when reinforcing and i bounced it with brutal expulsion.
i also had a crazy 4 turn game i believe this event with my Z Gideon.
Turn one i cascaded and dropped my entire hand, a veteran warleader followed by oath of gideon and have a suppresion bonds in my hand
3rd turn i make a white match 5 which summons me 4 more kor allys then use my 2nd ability to summon 4 2/2 knights and i draw another oath of gideon and cast it
final turn i get another white landfall, summon 4 more knights and its gg lol
it was glorious lol0 -

Meanwhile in just 2 turns during which there was only 4 possible mana available for me, my enemy ally Gideon buffed his Veteran Warleader from 3/3 to 37/37!0 -
Haha, that looks like my Gideon2 deck. I love it, it's had some incredible rallies from being down early. Fitting for an ally deck, I suppose. Veteran Warleader is so good.0

I've got a fairly weak planeswalker and decks to work with compared to the many in gold.
I still managed to go 9/10 on my first rounds. Played against a ton of Kiora decks full of some of the best cards in the game. You still only get 100 runes and a point for each victory, and the grinders are all fighting for the top placement rewards. If you only want the progression rewards, you can get them pretty easily if you play well and play often.
I have about 500 cards in my collection, only been playing for about three months, never spent a dime, and my quick battle win ratio is 85%. The AI is better than in Marvel, but if you build decent decks and have a pretty solid grasp of the MtG match three dynamics, you can still win against much better decks.0 -

Despite having all but 9 non-exclusive white cards in the game, my white decks feel useless since I don't have Veteran Warleader, Lantern Scout, or Sigil of the Empty Throne. I feel like I'll have to raise Ajani or one of the Innistrad planeswalkers for NoP just to use their other colored cards in the white slot, because all of white's synergy seems to be built around those cards. White mythics just can't compare because they're so much more expensive. My strategy for the moment is basically to pray that Hixus works.0 -

yeah i actually didnt lose a single game in gold so far, was at #1 but the grind gets really boring, so i just decided to stop. some days i don mind the grind and some times i just rather go out and do **** lol0 -

I'm surprised. I've only had Lantern Scout and Veteran Warleader for about 2 weeks, as I got them both in short succession. I still don't have Sigil. Or Hixus. Yet white has been consistently competitive. They're really the cherry on top of the underlying synergies, but not necessary to make a good deck.
Gideon1 example: Consul's Lieutenant - Ondu Greathorn - War Oracle - Enlightened Ascetic - Serene Steward - Relic Seeker as the core, plus Smite the Monstrous - Enshrouding Mist - Scour from Existence. Impenetrable defense, plus lifegain and creature growth.
Gideon2 example: Kor Entanglers - Serene Steward - Expedition Envoy - Kor Castigator, plus Enshrouding Mist - Encircling Fissure - Alchemist's Vial - Smite the Monstrous - Swift Reckoning - Suppression Bonds. Aggressive, cheap deck that locks down the opponent. Hixus would be a great topper for that.0 -
There have been some challenging games in gold. I lost a game last night were my Nissa opponent cascaded crazily to quickly made 4 copies of desolation twin. I had a veteran warleader in the teens or twenties, but was overrun in quick fashion.
I had another game where I was in a gideon mirror against 2 10/10 sized creatures with 5 life. I had a 3/3 veteran warleader and 1 other creature, but no loyalty and I drew Oath of Gideon to save my ****.
I was sure I was dead when my Kiora opponent's first play was a hexproof sphinx, while I was playing with my very controlling Sarkhan deck. I guess fleshbag could have potentially beat it, but I had a bunch of dead cards in my deck while it was on the board. Luckily though, I cascaded enough to quickly get down 2 Avaracious dragon and ultimated, while my opponent cascaded not at all and I was able to pull out a win. I was sure they were gonna get bounced or frogged or disabled.
I've currently lost 2 games, and am tied for 1st.0 -

This is somewhat like what I run, and it works, it just doesn't really compare to the decks that you often see in gold tier like Kioras with Drowner of Hope, or the Koth's that don't stop putting down huge creatures, or... the Gideon/Ajani Ally decks with Veteran Warleader. Sarkhan and Ob Nixilis would be just as fearsome too if the AI knew how to play them.0 -

Agreed-- playing against Ob Nixilis and Sarkhan makes me very, very glad that the AI never conserves Loyalty. Especially when Ob Nixilis uses his first ability despite having a full hand, which always makes me smile.0 -

While I think you're exaggerating to make a point (that you will come across some pretty strong decks in gold PVP), I have to defend what I said. Kozilek was straight up unbeatable for most people, whereas you have a chance to get lucky against a Lv. 60 Kiora. The fact that Kozilek had about 400 HP meant that he had plenty of time to overcome any lucky start you had. He also had +4 to every color and every couple of turns would completely refill his hand and gain a ton of mana. There's no way a Kiora deck could come close to that power level.0 -

The real difference is that it doesn't matter whether your winrate against Kozilek is 5% or 100%. In NoP you need over 95% winrate to place high.0 -
When you compare the current pvp event to pve event you have to multiply the pvp two times cause you can play it twice as often.
the pve event gave 100 crystals total.
In addition it gave I think 15 crystal worth of objectives(maybe 20? Cannot remember, can some confirm?).
Assuming 20 for now, 20x16 encounters equals 320 crystals.
Total 420
Add 2 bfz booster and 2 OGW booster
Now compare to double gold tier rewards:
2 750 runes
5 30 crystals
8 BFZ Booster
12 30 Crystals
16 1000 Runes
20 40 Crystals
25 OGW Booster
Two times that is the same boosters
200 total crystals.
Assuming the 420 above was right, and you usually complete all objectives there(not that easy) the reward from competition should be worth 220 crystals to be even.
These are the rewards for gold competition:
1-5 OGW Mythic, BFZ Fat Pack, 125 Crystals
6-25 OGW Rare, BFZ Fat Pack, 100 Crystals
26-50 OGW Uncommon, BFZ Booster, 75 Crystals
51-100 OGW Uncommon, BFZ Booster, 50 Crystals
101-250 OGW Uncommon, Basic Booster, 40 Crystals
251-500 OGW Uncommon, 30 Crystals
So I would say:
If you place lower than 50th you definitely lost value
At 26-50 both pve and pvp event are comparable but pve wins(you get 75 crystal, a booster worth 60, an OGW uncommon all that versus the 220 crystal difference)
6-25 you start gaining a fair amount.
100 crystal + a fat pach(200 crystals) + OGW RARE
1-5 wooohooo! Bingo!
I think it should be possible to get in top 25 without megauber decks.
26-50 is doable basically with any half decent deck if tuned and played correctly.
Also take in account that if your deck cannot compete for top 25 most likely you were unable to complete most pve objectives(the last encounter objectives mostly).
I would say in that case you should subtract at least 50 crystal from the pve event total gain.
Sorry for wall of text.0
