Yes, if you wait to join the event the pts per mission are higher due to the rubberbanding. But the tradeoff is the lvls are higher as people repeatedly beat the node down. Seems to have really paid off to wait for Narkon but I cant time my play to coincide with event ends typically so it would be hard for me to use that tactic.

Lucky you, i never get anything memorable from my daily rewards! Sure i could try some 2 on 3 matches (i pulled some mbw and have a lvl 1 one now lol) but i may end up disappointing you. icon_redface.gif
  • I finished top 2 and top 5 in Simulator and top 50 in No Holds Barred (unshielded). Sadly, the 5 Highly Trained tokens game only 2* which is a shame, but the 200 was nice. At least I got a red Psylocke from a progression token so it was not a total waste. This round will be tougher for me since last time I had Psylocke at level 190 with her boost. She was just amazing. This time the buffed character is Dr. Doom and he is only 2/3.

I guess your bracket must be more competitive because in my main I have just under 53k and that is enough for #10.

I pulled a 3* in 1/2 of my tokens but it was.... Daredevil. Lol oh well he'll probably be boosted soon given how he's being handed out as a prize now.
  • For some reason I missed the question in Aellos post

Round 1 for me, unfortunately, ended just before lunchtime on a working day so it was hard to keep my position any higher than 50 =(
This is what I usually do and it works very well. There are some tricks you can use to make your life in the game easier.

The first is when you join an event. Ideally you want to join a bracket with players who won't be able to play the last hours of an event. Take me for example. I live in GMT+2 zone. Assuming most players are US or EU, if a tournament ends 6am local time (or 4am GMT), it means it will be more difficult for EU players to play near the end so you have to make sure you join a bracket with EU players. I have found that the best time to do that is around 13:00 - 14:00 GMT since most US players are asleep. Of course this means you have to be able to play at that time to benefit from the lack of competition which is not always easy if you also live in EU, but a US player could just wake up to play 1 game to enter that bracket and go back to sleep.

The second is to clear the majority of missions in the last rotation. In round 1 of the Simulator I entered the Easy sub with 1.5 days to go, but I only played 1 mission to get in a bracket and played all the other missions 4-6 hours before the end. I did all of them 5 times which is a first for me and got 21370 points which was enough to get me #1 at the time and top 2 (or top 5) in the final ranking. I don't know if it was Easy or Hard that gave me the top 2, but since I left 500-1000 unclaimed points in Hard I assume it was Easy. Even if you clear only 1 rotation, the enemy levels will go up as other players beat the nodes, but at least you won't see 230 everywhere. Not to mention you can enjoy life without spending days matching tiles. icon_e_biggrin.gif If the game needed you to play in each rotation I would have quit long ago.

I don't really like 1-star tourneys because with the limited options, cascades leading to AP windfall tend to be very crucial for victory.

In this case, you have the best 1-star to trigger it already =) Jugg is good too but with conflicting colours on M.Storm and him, they tend to perform rather unexpectedly on the defence.

I'm not particularly excited about The Hood covers but this Alliance event seems to be awarding more HP than the last so it's an incentive to play it somewhat.
Did I mention I get more lucky pulling 50HP from Daily Rewards, haha?

I am using OBW to heal them when they are severely injured. I take care not to damage too much MBW since OBW can't be in the same team to heal her. I usually use the Swords to Plowshares mission in Oscorp prologue or Dead Air in Dark Avengers prologue and I enter with +3 B/P AP. I try to get 6 more blue AP with the first 3 matches in order to heal at least once before they put tiles on the board. If I have only 1 hero who needs healing I take OBW, MN Magneto and the character I want to heal with the same setup and go for either quick blue or purple matches. Some times the board doesn't help and they put tiles before I can heal which cuts OBW's healing power in half, but is still better than buying healing packs.

I would welcome any Hood cover since mine is only 1/2/2 and he is buffed in Simulator so I will try for a top 10 because I really want that blue. The yellow though will be tough, if not impossible. I have IM 35 at 45, and MStorm/MBW maxed and I am considering leveling my 10 Juggernaut to 30-40 to use as replacement for Iron Man when he is injured.
  • Oh well, I have so much spare ISO I decided to max every 1-star character except Hawkeye. Hope this turns out well. And I still have so much spare ISO. At this point, no one is worth levelling if I can't get them to Level 85 in 1 go, and my current constraint is covers o.O Ah, the bane of a F2P-player...

Good advice! I'll try that for Round 3.

Meanwhile, it's Thor and LR coming up. I wonder if it will be another Alliance Event...

Why is it that people horde ISO and then level to max in one go? I never understood the reasoning--I spend ISO and level as I earn it. Seems to pay off as my roster will get stronger vs opponents that are already at lvl 85+. Ive seen it stated that MMR isnt related to roster size or level so not sure what benefit waiting has vs what I do now?

I never had much ISO stored, but I tried to do that at some point. The benefit you get from doing this is that you can level any character who is still low level if you see he is powered up in an event. When Ares was introduced I got all his covers relatively early and I had 50-60k ISO stored. 2 days later his tournament began and I got him to level 70+. He was also buffed from the event which made my team scary to other players since I was one of few to have Ares with 6-7k health. This is the only benefit you get from having ISO stored. Instead of leveling a character who may not be useful for a long time, you reap the benefits immediately as you are able to place in top 5-10 in some events without much trouble.

I have no idea what I will do in the 2nd round of the simulator. Most enemies are already 140 in Hard and I have played only 1 match so far. In Easy things are slightly better, but even in that sub they have start touching the 100s. I am terrified.

EDIT: I decided to try and get some points before the levels go too high and things were not as terrible as I expected. I was definitely lucky in some matches (had to use only 1 healing pack) and I got 16k points which dropped the highest node to a little over 1k. I am not going to play more at this point because it will only increase the levels. I will make a final pass in the last rotation and hope for the best.

Thx for clarifying the point of saving up. The last 2/3 standard token pulls have resulted in bagmans.... The game is trying to send me a message...
  • In Lone Star I am currently #1 in my bracket with 607 points and our alliance is #157. If we can push a little we could get away with some ISO and HP so give it a try if you haven't already.
  • I am done for the day. Currently #1 in subs and #3 in main with 105k. How are you faring?

Envious! Im also at 105k but that is only good enough for 37th in my bracket. Ended up top 50 for both subs as i was on a biz trip, return flight home was during the tail end of the event. I was struggling to fight lvl 160s (thx mmr) but could have placed top 10 if i had the time... Damn you work for keeping me from MPQ! Lol

Well done team btw on lone star. Made top 250 in spite of my zero contribution. I will build some one stars in the neAr future.

Im super excited to see Patch as the prize for the fat thor event! Look forward to securing my first covers FINALLY--sad I know! My fat thor is now lvl 89 and can max at 102 thx to pull from last event's heroic tokens. Hoping that will help result in a strong showing this event.
  • #5 for Lone Star - hilariously, I shielded at #9 and played no matches in the last hour or so.

Hit 98k at the end of Round 2, and yet to start on Round 3.

It's another Alliance event for Lazy Thor - sadly, this is not my forte with only 2 green covers to date. But I'm hoping for Patch covers too, so I'll try hard for this one.

For the reasons Narkon stated. In addition, I'm running a steady roster of IM40, Thor, OBW and Punisher(used to be A.Wolv) that is good enough as-is. Given my cap due to lack of covers, there is no point spending ISO to level any of the other characters at the moment because none of them will replace steady-roster-cast. That may change when I get more covers for Patch and DD (both now at level 79 cap). I mean, I could level Capt America and GSBW to the max, but I'm not entirely convinced I will play either character more then steady-roster-cast.

But of course, that does not explain the HP I'm amassing...

If you max level modern capt then you may as well blow it on bagman as well. icon_razz.gif

By the way did anyone just absolutely fall in love with Dr Doom's attack tiles during the last event? Sure he was boosted but they were sooo ridiculous! I could really get used to having him in my rotation. If only i had more of his covers... Alas.

This fat thor's revenge event has been intense, probably because I really want patch. Currently sitting at 645 in third but my lvl 148 boosted fat thor is not proving to be much of a deterrent as I'm getting attacked constantly.

What is your strategy for selecting pvp opponents? I pass on some really high pt teams if their team is a ton stronger than mine. Not because I dont think I can win but rather because winning will likely mean taking a ton of damage. And without any healers, I just cant afford to sit and wait on health packs. So I end up trying to find teams with OBW as their top hero and no strong tanks. Means I typically can spare myself damage.

Really inconvenient without spidey or obw icon_mad.gif

It's been the same way for him in Villains LR. He used to be great for PVP though he only has 2 colours, given there weren't many black users as awesome, but BP has changed that equation since then...

Ares is awesome in this simulator. 6 greens, 1800 damage; 10 greens, 3000 damage...

    1. I only select opponents of 29 points and above (okay, sometimes I lower my standard by a bit)
    2. I run default Lazy Thor with Punisher and OBW (makes for a combined level of 200-ish).
    3. I pass on teams that have low points (see 1.), or have combined levels *way* beyond me because I don't think I can win (see 2.).
    4. I take damage, heal, steal, lay a few strike tiles then deliver Espionage and Retribution on the opponent, so usually I end a match with good health or dead - rarely on the brink.

But yeah, I know your pain without a dedicated healer. I think it used to be easier because there was Spider-man healing in the Prologue, or that A.Wolv was self-sustainable.
I'd say make good use of the health packs since you are losing 1 every 30min if you have maxed them out.
That was what I did, till I managed to pull enough healers to be good for levelling - I could have maxed Spider-Man Spider-Sense because all they gave was purple but I got luckier as time went by.

But it's so much harder to pull a Spider-Man cover these days due to dilution of the 3*-pool =(

The top guy in my bracket is shielded at 1000+ points but he has maxed BP, Spidey. c.Mags and Lazy Thor - go figure =) You would still be third in my bracket with your points though. I'm sitting at 10th position with 400+ points, and kept 1 retaliation node untouched that should rise in value once other retaliations come in.

What team do you run? Sometimes, it's a defensive team that is just asking to be attacked. I would think twice about one with Patch or Hulk, but teams running Magneto NOW! and C.Storm are a blessing.

I do the same. OBW is always in the team to provide mostly healing so I'm not forced to stop while I make a push. I also go for teams with 30+. This usually means a lot of skipping, but if you attack a similar team for less than that, they will get even more points from you. I find it works great if I make 3+ step push for the 600, making sure I play regularly after I get there to keep myself close to top 5 for the last push before I shield. If you drop to the 400-500 zone 8 hours before the end, you may never be able to get back up there. If you ever make it past 700-800, you will find a completely new world. You can find high point matches because there are less players within the range of your matchmaking and you can have matches that give 35+ since some player who shielded make a final push for the 1000+. Bad for them, good for you. icon_e_biggrin.gif

I am #4 in Lord of Thunder with 564 in a not so competitive group. #1 is 892, but #2-3 is 627-. I don't need covers from this one so I won't shields, but I will try to keep the alliance to top250 for the ISO and HP. We are surprisingly close to top 100 though. I guess most have Patch and they focus on the event for the Cap covers.

In the main event I am #16 so it appears I landed in a very casual bracket since I have barely played in the subs this time (#73 and #87 at the moment). This means that the 2 Cap are almost certain and we are still top 250 in the alliance rewards so that should be relatively safe as well.

I think you're right, my team is asking to be attacked as it is very offense oriented. I have boosted lvl 148 fat thor, 64 c.mags (5 blue maxed lvl..), and lvl 70 c.storm (iso starved, can max at 85). I don't really have anyone scary on my roster... icon_redface.gif

But good news! As I was killing time in the prologue on the rags mission i got the standard token reward and wouldnt you know it, finally pulled blue obw! Tried using it for healing but surprisingly hard to build up enough blue to heal the 300 or so health. Seems like a lot of effort for low return at the moment but will mess around with this some more.

c.Mag is scary with 5 purple. Very scary. Blue too if the board is kind.
    Feeds your c.Storm, I guess.

OBW shines with her powers combined. When you build her purple and black, you'll be stealing blue left and right.

Come to think of it, I would attack you if I see your roster. I just have to deny you from building enough for Lazy Thor or c.Storm

I'm worth few pts, wouldn't be worth your effort trust me icon_e_wink.gif

    3 hrs to go, 25k easy #3, 27k hardcore #4, 576 pts in thor event for #8.
Surprised I only got hit twice overnight, aiming to just stay top 10.
