  • I've got a 4 am alarm scheduled. I'm not losing out on another character, and I hugely want this one.

Gonna be interesting to see what happens in the last hour. Rubber banding is insane right now
  • I finished my last clear with 51200. I was so close to get 250 more from the Daken mission, but lack wasn't on my side. I am glad this event is finally over. I think this will be enough for a top 50, unless the world turns upside down and the rubberbanding in the last hours is too crazy.

I decided to enter a bracket right now in the pvp. The first match was against Punisher/Daken/BW and ended in a humiliating defeat. I miss the seed teams. I was also confused at first because I couldn't find OBW in the available roster. :D This is what happens when you take a hero with you wherever you go. Anyway, I think I will swap Ares for Patch in this one to have someone who can heal after taking a hit..
Suffering from OBW withdrawal when I match blue tiles and wonder why I'm not stealing anything from my opponent.

Desert stage and Daken = Trouble
  • I left the game #1 with 52200 and a 1k lead from #2. This morning I saw I finished top 50. I was "****, not even top 20?" Rubberbanding must have been crazy in the last hours. At least I got the 3 covers, although I'm not sure where the Torch fits my game plan. Anyway, good job everyone with the alliance rewards. I know we were top 50, but did anyone notice our final ranking?

Most of our team got hit by the large volume of people that took advantage of rubberbanding at the very end. I was playing and winning matches all the way to the end and still slipped from first to 6th.

The system still needs some work.

I think many folks are a bit burned out so don't expect that we see really high turnout for the gsbw pvp.

It was a very awkward rubber-banding effect. Everyone was bunched so close together where a small amount of points made quite a bit of difference in ranks so you had to keep playing till the last minute to move along with the herd. There was no sense of a proper lead, i.e. pulling ahead of the competition. Either similar players were grouped in the same brackets or people were more intense in clearing node after node or both.

The GSBW PVP is interesting where you see all sorts of team combinations other than (OBW + <default character> + <the other highest level character in roster>). My MMR is going to hell given I am fielding all level-110+ for this PVP =( ... *Must get at least 2 Psylocke covers...
  • At first the HPK event was frustrating and i wasn't getting anywhere but then i found a team comp that's sorta working fine for me.

It's kinda cheap, but i take advantage of the gameplay fact that the provided GSBW will always regen to full health after every battle. Although i have a higher GSBW available, it's too weak to make any real impact, so i use the other GSBW as a 'always reviving-sacrificial meat shield tank' when i'm grinding.

The rest of my team comp is GSBW + Daken/Wolv(yellow) + Thor.
    - i use mainly daken because his regen is better and he can tank most matches (match G Blk & Purp)
    - as you can see, it's a grind but you can stay alive and take damage from most builds matching mostly daken's colors, then you use thor as a clean up to kill their heavy threats.
    - i match blues (GSBWs colors) strategically at the right moments to tank the enemys spells to keep thor/wolv/daken at high health. it's ok if she dies because it's a free revive the next match. no need to waste a health pack. (i can't explain it any better other than to 'feel it out' ).
    - sorry if this didn't make sense (i'm bad at micro analysis), but this build has allowed me to win matches at a better rate and use preciously health packs sparingly.

i'm tethering in the top 10 in my bracket but so far it's working.

Aellos, are you going to get the 2 Psylocke covers comfortably on your own or will you need the Alliance reward? If you need the Alliance reward I'll try harder to stay in the 300s and won't attempt to super tank.

How do you super tank vs regular tank? Does it involve multiple bagman? icon_lol.gif

Yes, you use three roster spots for Bagmans. icon_e_smile.gif On a more serious note, I was going to see if I could take my score and run it to zero through many many losses.

EDIT: Although I suppose its not the strictest definition of tanking. I think there's two methods I've read. One is to just continually lose, the other is to beat one of the CPU teams like B4CONMAGIC with a bad team and the let all the other real players beat up on that team. I have no idea which ones works best.

Likely that both work--you are losing both matches and health.

The lightning rounds are the easiest to tank with. You have to enter as soon as it goes up because you want to fight just seed teams. Once you hit 100-125 or so points you save the lowest level seed team for last (typically has a level 1 storm and widow) and then you put a team in that is the base level hero/villain and then 2 real low level people that you have and win. That way all the other people will see that team and destroy you. It's by far the quickest way to tank.

Earlier I went the alternate route to get my MMR lower by going to the basic shield training thing in the prologue and just retreating continuously. I wiped out over half my roster and now I'm seeing mostly 1* teams in the widow tournament. It takes far longer to retreat versus using the lightning rounds. Unfortunately lightning rounds got pushed back until tomorrow so if your trying to lower your MMR for the widow tournament you may want to hit up the shield training thing for now.

Nah, it's just a personal goal of sorts for the top 10. It would be nice for an Alliance reward too but I also understand not everyone is a fan of a GSBW-only tournament.

Do play as you like! Read Narkon's opening post =)

Well it turns out that I almost made top 10. So much for slacking. I asked because it was a close decision for me to either tank during the PvP or tank in the LRs to the point that if there was a need for alliance points I'd put off tanking for one more day. I didn't make any promises of performance icon_e_smile.gif If the day ever comes that this alliance starts having things like mandatory hours of play, performance reviews and other soul crushing rules then I'll peace out. I like being part of this alliance because everyone seems to have fun with this game. People here treat this game like a mostly enjoyable addiction and not like their main job.
