    Understanding how to match tiles to maximize AP gain, whether AP is needed or not is a powerful skill that will enable wins against superior opponents. A measure of luck is always involved however the key is to control the board.

    This is so true. I've been early in sessions when I could tell I just wasn't going to be able to win the match because I couldn't gain control of the board in terms of setting up matches and future matches (not enough of the color sets I needed at times). And I've had other matches were as soon as the board starts I see so many match possibilities that I'm like yup I'm good.

    Maximizing AP is pretty much the dominant strategy in this game, regardless of whether you needed the AP or not. Sure, you don't need 10 purple AP cascade when your only purple user is Spiderman, but your opponent's OBW sure would like those 10 purple AP, and it's better that you get that 10 purple AP and can't do anything with it, versus an opponent's OBW getting those 10 purple AP. The only exception is if making a match would immediately result in someone dying on the other side.
