    Time is a VERY important factor. During the last no holds barred tournament I was suffering from a bit of insomnia due to stress at work. Couldn't sleep at 4 am in the morning (US time) and played a bit. Ground my way up from 400 pts to 800 pts, and didn't get attacked a single time in the process.

    How do you defeat the teams with 3x100+ buffed characters with that setup?

    Shielding is a strategy that involves understanding the thought process of your opponents. Let's take LR since it's only got one bracket to worry about.

    Suppose you know the top 100 players MPQ never shields, and you're the #101 player in MPQ. If you just keep playing and try your luck, you'd expect to finish somewhere around #101, because there are 100 guys better than you that will certainly knock you down to where you belong to correct any aberration.

    So in this case, you should shield and let the 100 guys better than you beat each other up whenever you secure a good place (say, top 25) and using a shield would have a positive payoff.

    Now let's suppose the opposite is true, the top 100 players all shield whenever they hit some predetermined point. In this case, it is advantageous for you to NOT shield. This is because the top 100 players already removed themselves from the pool, which means you're now the best player left, so you have a very good chance of climbing all the way to number 1 (and then you should shield).

    Of course it's impossible to actually know where you stand relative to the world and also what your opponents are thinking, but right now it seems people in MPQ are overly aggressive, so you should shield early. If people are all shielding early, you'll usually be able to see it on your bracket even in non LR situations and in that case you shouldn't shield.
