I had an XForce, IF, Colossus team as well. I certainly prioritised Colossus yellow over XForce and it's saved me from making use of too many healthpacks. I tried out BP instead of XForce but there were several times where I had to hold off using RotP because I didn't want to feed AP to my opponents. I felt XForce was faster as I could get 10k damage and get board shakeup in the process. Overall I think I fought more XForce than BP in my climb to just below 900 and I didn't shieldhop so maybe BP was better in the higher levels.

Exactly, and XForce's green at 5 is a great way to remove most/all of BPs yellow from the board if it happens to go off.

For Colossus' black, they probably figured a high cost because he can set off a very powerful ability, but did not mitigate it with the fact that he can trigger a **** one and that it is useless when he is the sole survivor.

To the OP I used IF and Groot in PVP for up to 600 points. I played around fastball special as I would throw Groot for either I got a plan or groots green. It worked well until I got above 600 and the team was just slow and I took too much damage. I switched to BP, IF and Rotp just ate people alive. IF track tile would whittled one person down and because Colossus as in front when I fired Rotp the other team would get 5 yellow. Xforce would go down with BP strike tiles and IF attack tile and colossus might get his yellow off when he was he last man standing with 0 red on the board. His yellow did nothing against my special tiles. In the end at high level PVP I used none of his powers.
In PVE I am having fun with him throwing Groot, or Deadpool, or LThor just for Fun. Colossus has some potential, but not enough to bring him to 166 at is time.
Here is another interesting question next week when Gamora is buffed for the week and she is tanking colors how will she look with IF instead of colossus?

I have Colossus cover maxed, but only leveled into the 140s. I got some use out of his Fastball because my BP only has one black cover, so it's little more than a bop on the nose. I had fun running him with She-Hulk and GSBW. Rainbow coverage, and Nat got thrown around a lot. Two Sniper Rifles in one turn? Yes, please.

I don't agree that Cage replaces Colossus, Cage's red is nothing like Colossus' yellow. Cage protects vs match damage while Colossus protects against ability damage. When Cyclops for example gets red/black I know I am going to get wrecked even with cage on my team. If I have yellow held for colossus though, I feel very safe as he jumps out and eats that damage like a champ.

I'm surprised nobody is speaking up for him in PVE, juggernaut/Ares nodes are Colossus' cup o tea.

Interesting. Is your playstyle with Colossus to hold casting Immovable Object until an enemy has enough AP to use an ability (or unless you need to move him to the front for Colossal Punch)?
  • nope its BP+IF thaat save my day, expensive, conditional, and not-so-good that what i thought about colosus(sadly he's one of my fav's)

also fastball TU used by enemy is truly magnificent lol.
  • got to say hes number 1 loaner in game at the moment. he did help alot when climbing

I never thought Colossus was bad. He was one of the 1st 3*s I maxed. I have him 3/5/5 because I don't even use Immovable Object. I put him on a team with Lazy Thor or GSBW and toss them every chance I get hoping their green powers will be the ones that trigger and cause damage to the whole team plus the 1200 damage bonus to the target. With the patch update a while back that widened the variety of other characters abilities that worked with Fastball special he's even better. Plus Colossal Punch maxed is a wonderful thing too. I had Daredevil maxed and recently maxed Dr. Doom too to match him with Colossus and LazyThor/GSBW and have a rainbow team. As long as there aren't any ridiculous cascades from the other team (AHEM!) things usually turn out pretty good.

If I need to use colossal punch I can just match one of his tiles, so I only saved yellow until a character had enough AP to fire an ability. Him staying out longer is just a bonus and if things go bad can stop more abilities.

Good tip, thanks. I'll have to rethink his role in my roster, at least in PvE. It's a pity he doesn't mitigate Strike Tile damage though, the meta is swimming in Strike Tile generators at the moment.

I'm pretty sure the reduction applies after the damage shows up on his lifebar, as in you'll see (-1000) from some match 3 and by the time it gets to his lifebar it becomes (-500), just like how attack tiles display one value during animation but the end result may be very different by the time it reaches the lifebar depending on what protect/strike tiles are out. There are a lot of effects that only kick in at the final stage of the animation, including the +50% damage to everything boosts that are no longer available, and it's very easy to miss the final result because the animation is happening very fast.
