Colossus is bad?How many times did he save you this PVP/PVE?

As the title states, while may think he is a "bad" character, how many times did he protect your damage dealers from major single target damage dealing abilities?

Inversely, how many times did an opponent's colossus mess up your plans by dropping immovable object, forcing you to wait to activate skills?

Personally he saved several games of mine and even out lasted many encounters thanks to his yellow (though mine is at 5). I think his abilities are not so easily quantifiable with numbers, so he is one of those underestimated characters who can still provide a ton of support for a team.

I don't think he's bad. I do think he's been obsoleted by Luke Cage, unfortunately, though. Same colour combination, with better team damage reduction all around (for free, to boot).

I'd agree with you, though, I do enjoy playing him when it's necessary.
  • That is it exactly. He is a pretty good character, but then Luke Cage came along and did it better.
  • He's a lulzy character because of his fastball special.

Can be dangerous when paired up with others who have high cost skills. Now that there's a black generator it's easy to pull off his fastball.

    But he's still mostly lulzy
  • Without wishing to sound negative, I don't think that ever happened to me. BP's Yellow was used over C's power, same with the Black, and rarely had enough Red for Punch. And against him he rarely proved a threat. The odd times he got out in front with his protect I had enough Black in the bank to use RotP and he was toast.

As others have said, he's not terrible but he is way behind a whole host of 3*'s, so he'll never be used by me outside of being forced to in a PVP event.

He didn't really add much to my team than the occasional red punch either. All yellow and black went to xforce, who along with his buddy Iron Fist quickly disposed of any Colossus left standing after more dangerous characters had been taken care of.

Colossus to me is kind of like Punisher: a decent to good character when he came out, but made obsolete by a character that simply does a better job than him at damage prevention combined with the occasional big wallop.

I've had him eat a Surgical Strike from X-Force today...4500 damage instead of 9000. But it's really rare that it's that useful. It hasn't detered me from firing abilities ever on offense for sure. His yellow should be a permanent tile like invisibility tiles and his black is way too expensive for firing a random ability after 1-3 turns. He's not useless but not good either...which is sad, because i really like the character.
  • I don't think he's bad either. Moreover he's an original character, what with his black. But I agree, there are just other characters that are better than him.
After he came out I played him regularly (once I had him more or less fully covered, that is), but then others with a stronger black came along. i don't use him that often now. But he sure served me well during Ultron, made an appearance during that infamous 8th round too (with Thor-tossing).

Only when I used the loner because my Colossus is 0y/1r/2b. Bad times.

He's great on offense. I used his red most matches.

But to answer the question, he's saved me many times. I love him. Put him in the back when the enemy hulkbuster gets 9 red, leaving them a red match to take. Colossus grabs it and punches happily from the backseat while Tony looks confused. "Where did all my red go?"

I hadn't used Colossus before this PvE event (joining Real Steel later today). The only thing I can really say about him at this point is that he cuts down on how often I need to spend a health pack. Mine is only 2/5/2, so Immovable Object doesn't really reduce the damage all that much (35%), but at least it makes it so I only have to spend health packs on him, especially when combined with Fastball Special.

I *do* enjoy using a powered up Colossal Punch, though. Not as good as Righteous Uppercut, but more than good enough to 1-shot Daken and put a good sized dent in his buddies in some nodes.
  • His red is very good. Probably top 5 reds in the game, at least at the 3* level. I used it fairly frequently, and it did a lot of damage.

I haven't used his black ever, except possibly when he was first introduced just to try it out.

I might have used his yellow once or twice in the entire time he's been boosted for the last few PVPs and the current PVE. Maybe none. I'm not sure.

He's got one good power, but that's really it. I can imagine strategies using his yellow or black, but there are going to be better and easier ways to accomplish the same thing. I think if they lowered his black skill's cost to say 8 or 9, he'd be much better, but it's usually easier, cheaper, and more reliable to just have the person whose skill you want to use use it themself than to activate it with Fastball Special.

I have him built so far as 0/3/1... so no Immovable Object, ugh. I definitely used the loaner.

He is my yellow outlet, and since my other characters tank most of the other colors except yellow and red, it was important for me to have him be my only yellow player so the AI can play him right.

In this PVP, my IF and BP are not covered enough to be too useful, so Colossus loaner has been a free, effective shield for my other two characters allowing me to slow climb 17-20 point matches without exhausting all of my health packs before I run out of opponents and I get stuck in the "same 5 people i can't beat" iso suck.

I'm enjoying the loaner for sure, but I've not built him up until the beginning of this hulk event because he was essential, but gave up on the PVE because it was just too long of a grind, even though I need the LDaken covers, I don't want them that bad.
  • His yellow hasn't saved anyone on the opposing or my team but his fastball special has.... many times. On more than one occasion I kill XForce/Panther then have IF almost dead (like on less than 100 health) and Woosh, up he goes. Now they get either free Strike tiles or enough black to possible do it again... but overall, I would say his red is better than Cage's yellow (assuming you can get him up front without using yellow). I like the AOE damage + the super smash to the front guy (reminds me of LThor with less AOE and way more up front damage.)
  • If fastball cost 8-9 black I'd use him. As he is he's a mediocre red outlet, a fine yellow and an unusable black.

Yellow can help fight a single target nuke but in a pvp infested with boosted BPs it rarely did much.

Echoing, Battleplan was a much better way to save my team than Immovable Object. Once BP is out, that's ~1k a turn just from Fist's attack tile, not to mention whatever other damage.

It also tacks on to Rage, making it even more potent. Most times it was get enemies down to about 6k, Battle Plan -> Rage -> Dead.

Colossus red was plan B for terrible boards. It's a very good move, but in the week of black generation, it's not a priority by any means.

Honest answer, never. Unless you don't have a BP, you're winning these matches by getting battleplan out ASAP, not by prolonging the match. I've used his yellow exactly once. I was about 3 moves away from winning via match damage, so I figured I might as well mitigate the match damage I'd be taking on those 3 moves.

I second the notion that the big fella got trumped by Mr. cage. Cage has 2 abilities that do damage compared to one for Colossus, and cage's passive protect tile is has more utility (protect all members of the team) compared to Colossus yellow. At this point, only when Colossus is featured/buffed is the ideal time to play him.

He would have been more fun if X-Force and Black Panther weren't boosted at the same time. With those guys around, Colossus is really only good for his red. If the boosted characters didn't have very good Blacks, then his Fastball Special would have been a ton of fun to use.

mine is not well covered or leveled but with the super buff he did some tanking and meat shielding which did help some. I was able to put him in front to take big hits for my in his essential node and his pvp. used his punch once when I got enough red in a cascade when running fist/cage. one match I ended with a fastball special of thor coming back with cots - that was nice, but complete overkill at that point. he saved me some health packs.
  • He never 'saved' me, I used the yellow with CMags instead.

With that said, there was one team that utterly surprised butt-sexed me - Colossus/She-Hulk/OBW, not being able to target either Widow or SH consistently is just damning. No large damage, SH's Red hurt a bit, but I just got worn down, too much AP steal and redux, along with healing. My CMag board clears simply fed SH dmg, my CMag big dmg fed OBW healing, my CMag defense fed Colosus dmg redux...which got healed over and over. IT felt like a 15 minute fight before I finally died.
