The devs will NEVER give us a respec system.

But yet again the issue is that there is no functional MMR algorithm. The computer is trying to match you, a 100% winner against all the other 100% winners out there, and so they are so far below you they are on 1 point and 10 points and so on. The pool of people at the 100% win tier is massive and ugly, and if you have a high score then most of them are well below you.

Excellent summary. That leads to the truth too: the MMR system (or Elo-rating and variants) does not fit in this structure. Therefore it should not be used in the first place. Or any system that is designed for direct fighting, not both parties punching a painted strawman.

The point-assignment system smells from the same with additional f-up using just simple difference, so creating the 40-10 gap figting at 700-500 and 300-100. Enhanced with full point-grabbing, putting the lower-point party at massive advantage. Topped with convenient removal of the top points from the fighting pool. Dr. Evil would have hard time to deliberately design that schema really to that perfection.

Now if the lower scoring people are forced to take some challenging fights by the no skip algorithm and they lose team members then they fall out of your tier. Most of those 1 pointers disappear and you are left with people who have a similar success rate to yourself, and so should be in the same point category. You may need to skip once in a while, but they have upped the ISO rewards to allow for occasional skips.

Excuse me, WHAT challenging fights? The execution of the strawman-punching adds so much advantage to the attacker so it's auto-win to some 97% extent. Some difference might be crated by how much you're bruised or how much time it takes, or boost consumption. But vast majority of fights I see go between very similar teams. And everyone beats everyone -- the "challengers" with borrowed punishers had no problem to beat my 90+ on retals in however many repeats, if I decided to actually do retaliation just for some bushido.

And in the rest you just deny the reality, read the reports from 700+, the 1 pointers do not disappear, and real opponents not appear only if one was inexperienced to jump from under the shield. But it will hardly happen again and we already know to be suicide if done for more than few minutes.

But to achieve that state you first must force people to take on the challenging fights which will actually rate them. You cannot implement the correct rating before the no skip policy because it is the no skip policy that forces a rating to be generated. But once you have that it is self reinforcing and limits the need to actually skip.

Before forcing anyone to anything you should at leas *allow* them to do something reasonable. Matching preference filters would cover that for good: you can issue filters to show you only 25+ pts matches or only low level teams or high levels or whatever. Would prevent most of skipping for good. Now if at the point the system correctly serves my wishes and I rather pass on that, charging would be considered fair. Not before, when I'm served cooked crud and pay for feeling disgusted.

And you keep thinking in terms of the fundamentally broken rating and point system trying to cover its flaws with forcing this or that. Instead of just replace it with something that has a fighting chance to work and be fun.

Like I said earlier in this thread, the idea behind having shields is pretty good, and sure it has it's benefits, but don't you want to play the game? Shields = not playing.

That's a terrible set of options.

I want to play the game when it is convenient for me, not in the last 2 hours of whatever clock is set for an event. Shields = playing to my schedule. No shields = not much point in playing because events are scheduled to end when convenient for Europe or America and being nowhere near either timezone my job and the sleep required would preclude me from ever competing.

I don't think I mentioned options; I was just talking about shields. Use what works for you!

I did mention that the idea behind shields is pretty good, but that shields are really just a band-aid for a matchmaking system and point system that most are not happy with.

For the record there are no schedules convenient for Europe currently, event end at 6AM when people sleep and 6PM when they are at work.

Lightning rounds are pretty convenient for Europeans.

Possibly so, not my arena. But I don't get why they can't go around the clock so fit for everyone in timing.
  • Okay, I've decided.

In hindsight, most of what I've said is just one-sided negativity instead of objective judgment. Throw in some hatred for the devs, and it turned into a bash topic.

I'm also aware that there is the remote possibility that the devs are working on the respec, but I had decided that I'd rather hate them for not having one right now.

I'm going to take a long time out and stop posting topics like this for a while. By the next time I post topic that outline the design flaws, it will be completely objective and fair.

Long story short, I am done posting hate threads. I will try to be completely objective from now on.

I'll believe it when I see it, but Hey good luck!
