When facing a high level Rag, my regular team is Patch/Laken/Blade. The key to winning against Rag is to ensure his green doesn't go off against your team and cause aoe damage. And Rag has to be taken out last. You could afford to let Rag fire off blue to self heal because you're saving him for last. As someone else pointed out, Blade is a wonderful character to use against Rag. If you concentrate on making purple and black matches, while ignoring red to the extent possible and let Patch/Laken absorb any red attack fired off by Rag, you can slowly build up a tile filled, AP draining board to set up a one-turn knockout of Rag.

Rag is the key to winning against Rag. As long as rag is up and his colors are open, you (might) not get hit by more powerful abilities like green countdowns, Chemical Reaction, Photon Blast, Onslaught, Rampage etc. And if he does his blue make sure to have a green user around to turn it against him. The only challenge about fighting rag is his big HP.

I think those nodes w/ Moonstone shows how devastating her photon blast can be. She one-shot more than her fair share of my characters with that ability. icon_redface.gif
  • With 12 hours 8 minutes left, in second place somehow, about 17k ahead of #10. Unless I pretty much skip the last set of subs (note: I will not do this), probsbly have top ten in the bag. Not optimistic on top 2 (though, to be fair, I didn't think I'd have any chance at it until lately) since I do better on the evening subs (ie, the one about to end) than the morning ones.

One of the most **** annoying OP skills in the game at high levels.

She took down my 2* Hawkeye this morning that way. Even buffed, that guy's nearly useless. He's going to be first on my 2* chopping block when the time comes.

I must have a soft bracket in slice 5 because I'm sitting pretty in T50. I've never been this high in PvE before and it's been easy. Having a usable Blade sure has helped (he was 3/0/2 to start, now he's 3/1/2). I should have no trouble winning my first 3* covers from a PvE icon_e_biggrin.gif

Then I'll just have to figure out what to do with my roster slots. I actually drew an XForce from an event token, and he's coming up in my daily logins next month, so I'll have to keep him. I may have to sell my Magneto for the HP after all.

Oof, I was holding out on joining a fresh bracket but I also really needed the Blade progression reward, even with the 3 from the Vortex event. Looks like I joined late enough to still get Blade, but too late to get any Khan covers. After 1 round of grinding on the last sub, I'm at 162. Oh well...

It's sad with the Magstorm nerf, it makes 2*Storm, 2*Mag, and ESPECIALLY 2*Hawkeye even worse. And even if you wanted to run Hawkeye, there's Xavier now. He's dead weight!

I seriously don't feel they should've nerfed them in this manner. Winfinite was OP? Fine. But don't hurt 2*/transition players in the process. I personally was able to recover because I'm practically at the end of my transition but I'm sure others aren't so lucky.

I haven't found the Magneto change to be that bad, though. The 5 red tiles really help getting his own red off, which is a powerhouse skill, or fuel somebody else's red. That's why I hate to have to sell him, because then I have to spend time & ISO to rebuild him (as a 2* -> 3* transitioner, you really can't afford to be without many of the 2* toons. Bagman, Moonstone, and Bullseye are the only three truly useless ones).

Though I have pulled 5 of him over the last week that are sitting unclaimed in my inventory, so I could quickly put him back in at 3/0/2. Which would mean I'd be weeks getting the purple covers, probably.
  • Can't beat jugg/rag/hood in new york grr....and my characters have to rest for PVP. Hopefully can get to it later, wanted to do a really good push to maybe get top 50

Was going hardcore today to try and get my first top 20 finish... took lunch, came back and was 26th with 6k points needed to get back into top 20.. oh well, top 50 it is!
  • I hate hate hate Juggs/Rag/Hood so damn much. Board always sets up so perfectly for the computer to make sure I can't do anything.

And it continued in the Juggs/Rag/Moonstone Blade-Required node. I'm done with the Hard Mode if Juggs is EVER involved.

You cannot compare MNMags to Xavier. One you can easily cover and level in a month, the other you'll need years or dollars to finish.

Dude, I'm talking about fully covered.

Previously, even the most well-rounded rosters had a reason for Hawkeye.

Now with X here, they really don't.

Of course there's an element of "BUT TIME AND MONEY!!!!", there are for most things.

It's the same reason we compare X-Force to everything.
  • Does anyone else find the 12 hours subs make the progression awards impossible to reach? My need to sleep and earn a living prevent me from doing the first sub of the day (for me, 12:00am- 12:00pm). I've full cleared all of the 12:00pm-12:00am subs but I'm not even close to the progression - I'm at about 23,000 with one sub left.

In the past I could do one full clear a day and coast to the top progression award. Is it the length of the subs that has changed things or have they tinkered with the rubber-banding?

It's not impossible. Do essentials and you'll get to progression.

Given that people are scoring over 150k, and 23k is way less than half that, something about the math here doesn't add up.

Did you not do the second subs?
I haven't been perfect on my clears and I passed the progression like 2 days ago.

I have to give a tip of the cap to the people in my bracket's top 150 for this event. I wasn't able to play much for various reasons over the weekend, so I had written off any chance at top 150. Strangely, I found myself at 172 with 36 hours to go and started to play more seriously. In spite of finishing in the top 100 for 4 of the last 6 subs (and top 150 for the other two) that was only good enough to bring me up to 153--tantalizingly close, but such is life. It would have been nice to get the cover, but sometimes you just have to give full credit to the other guys & gals who just flat out beat you. I guess Thick as Thieves progression will need to be my consolation cover for the new character...

    1. Flip Slice 5 from now until the end of all things. Everyone in T10 of the final slice that opened around the 15 hrs. remaining point, with the exception of #10, is what I would call in "4 star.png land", having at least one fully covered/max level 4 star.png character. Once I entered the slice at slot #28, I was sure I had T10 toe-tagged. Reality has never clubbed me so hard before in the PvE space. [for those of you who want to point and giggle, final rank put me at #63. This was all I could muster without a single RL moment of interference from the opening of the slice to End of Event.]

You know what? Skip that. Based on what I just observed, here's what I really learned:

1*. The new PvE optimal strategy is no longer play every X hrs, where X= refresh time - rubber band value, then play final 90 min. The new Optimal Play is to play once(if possible), wait X, then grind to(or moreover, have the ABILITY to) grind to "0".

    2. StormNeto has be officially been announced Dead at 1300 hrs, 23rd of March, 2015. And until I ran into icon_hood.png at lv 15x, its death never really hit me. SN was my unofficial counter to icon_hood.png since he showed up in MPQ land. Now, the amount of board leg-humping you have to rely upon in order to bash through a high level icon_hood.png with SN is just far to inconsistent. I new the NERF was going to affect me, I just never deply investigated all of its ramifications until this event.

Appologies for the Wall of Rant-esque Text. The boards could use a player's blog feature for this kind of thing, I think. Also, lastly, I wonder If I just also had a vast under-estimization of the blackflag.pngicon_elektra.png top placement prize? Both #1 & #2 in that bracket did lack a cover-complete one of her... icon_cool.gif

I'm not unsympathetic to your plight, Ireallyhatepvp, and I appreciate your need to vent.

With regards to your first point, I've come to realise that's the risk of joining late. The later you join, the smaller your margin of error is with grinding those nodes down. If you join at the beginning of an event, you can probably get away with hitting those nodes every refresh, and a couple of times at the end of a sub. If you join, like you did, with 3 hours left in a sub, you pretty much need to have the capability to grind those nodes down to a stub. That can be hard with a 2* roster, since you're never going to have the same depth as a 3* roster. Joining late has a double whammy effect too, in that you're very likely to end up joining a death bracket populated with forum vets, which further reduces your margin of error. There are definitely pros and cons to joining late vs early.

With regards to your second point, you're absolutely right, in that the SN nerf has slowed it down to such an extent that I wouldn't try it against Hood. You're just not going to hit 11 blue quickly enough with the changes to Polarity Shift. I'd suggest next time you try a fast attack team with low AP costs. Daken, Ares, and OBW spring to mind. Matching green gives you strike tiles to quickly match damage Hood down, with OBW double dipping on them, and Ares can burst Hood down without needing to build up a huge amount of AP. Then steal your AP back with OBW once Hood is downed.

I suspect also you found it particularly competitive because Kamala looks like a good 3* with her green AP generation, good AE, and useful passive.
