You guys actually plan these things? I don't even look at names. If the points are there, and I feel I can beat the defensive team, I'm in. Simple as that. No bad blood, no targeting, and I don't save any nodes for later. Granted that I don't shield hop very often, and I'm roughly a 700-800pt player, so certainly not competing for the same spots.

I feel that some folks just put way too much effort and thought into this game. It is, after all, a game.
So what you're saying is that you don't understand why anyone would play the game differently than your way, the correct way.

What I am saying is that there are folks on here who at least appear to be quite upset at getting "hit" in a game. I understand playing for fun, and I understand playing competitively (been there, done that with many a game), but in the end, a game is a game and if it is affecting your mood to the point where you are getting frustrated and clearly expressing that frustration as much as some forumites here do, that is an actual problem. I mean that in the most respectful way - when something is allowed to take over how you feel and react, whether it be drugs, people, or video games, it is a problem.

I don't believe my way is the only way or the correct way, as you allege. In fact, I point that out in the last sentence, in understanding that I do not play the same as others, nor compete for the same rosters spots. Rather, I see it all as a spectrum. Some of my alliance mates are quite competitive, and do really well, others not as much as simply play to the minimums. The one thing we all understand is that real life takes priority, something I value very much. As a human being, a gamer, and a mental health professional, I do believe that real life ought to take priority over something as trivial as a video game. Play to your heart's content. Enjoy the game. Be competitive. Have some fun with it and build some rivalries. But to take the time out of your day and go out of you way to specifically target someone or retaliate for loss of virtual points in a video game, goes a bit too far for me.

You have an unhealthy obsession with other players unhealthy obsession with this game. icon_e_biggrin.gif

You really are reading way too much into the posts you are concerned with. Yes, there are people that are very intense with this game. However, for you to assume this intensity affects their real life in a harmful matter is a huge leap of assumption. You are coming off as preaching and holier than thou.

BTW, to target someone takes all of maybe 10 skips if they are unshielded. There is no reason to take time out of your day. MPQ is a much different game when playing for the top 5 spots or especially different when your alliance is playing for top 5 spots. Playing for the top makes this game fun, the push from 800 and above. You should give it a try next time.

dangit - just need to vent! With Ldaken on the line I went all out and tried my hand at shield hopping for the first time since he is the last *** I really want. First hop I won 2 games but was hit twice, so that was a wash. Got gun shy on the second and only played one game. Third hop cascade got me early and had no chance so retreated quickly and played a second, so it was a wash. So after my initial push and only one match worth of points had me in the 520s. Was going to be close and with 20 min left I dropped below 100th so I broke with ~12 min left, won 2 matches and lost 100 pts, ending with 420. TINYKITTY!!! I know I was only running ares obw, so that made me a ripe target, but losing that many matches in minutes blows. working on Lthor Loki but not sure they're ready yet. Maybe Loki would be a better deterrent than OBW. He has 4 green now but could spend for the 5th. Ugh, I really wanted to start daken - with ddq making it just a matter of time before what you have gets better, and the gauntlet 2nd sub complete except for his essentials I thought spending some hp on shielding would push me over the top. I think I had too slow of a team and I play very cautiously checking opponents ap before deciding what to do - maybe that needs to change, but when I get fast, I get sloppy and they get a power off and down goes obw. I don't have to worry about that with loki but his animations are slow, so bleh. Oh well, live and learn. And don't get me wrong - not upset with those who hit me. I would've hit me too, but nevertheless....it blows.

It'll get better. This game is a long marathon, unless you want to p2w. Loki with 4 green is great, of course 5 is better. You should work on leveling him. Though his powers are not level dependent ot helps just to give him health. Though you dont want him tanking too many colors.
  • Started first slice about 1hr 40 min before the end, managed to get #4 with @790 points (11 points ahead of #6.) Cost me a bunch of boosts and 225HP in shields, though I was never attacked so maybe shouldn't have bothered.

I keep my Loki at 140, which I believe is the max he can be and still have Patch and LDaken tank all his colors icon_e_smile.gif

So what you're saying is that you don't understand why anyone would play the game differently than your way, the correct way.

Let's clear any misconceptions before I begin here. Please, re-read my last sentence. It is implied that I play my own way, and I understand that different people play in different ways. I understand this from a personal perspective and have played games both competitively and casually. However, the essence of competitive play was always fun. I have never allowed a game to dictate my life, my emotions, or my behaviour in other aspects. There are many in my alliance who are competitive, and quite good at this game, and others that are less so. The one thing that we all get, however, is that in the end, real life takes priority.

I was trying to make light of the situation at hand. I observed that there are several individuals who have expressed being offended by getting "hit" in a video game. Some of these individuals feel that others "target" them because they are so valuable, which I was comically attempting to dispute with a real example. I truly do not care if someone is a Crewsader, or X-Men, or Punisher - I don't care for your alliance, and I do not target you because you are in it - rather, I look at the points. The argument appears to be that these individuals are specifically targeted, and to some extent, this may very well be the case. However, even this is part of the game. Getting upset over that, and expressing frustration with such zealous conviction that one may be seen as delusional, tells me that all of a sudden, the virtual world has affected someone's emotional world - this is what I see as a problem. As a gamer, a mental health professional, and a human being, I see this a a problem. In fact, I would argue that anything that is allowed to affect us to such a high degree is often seen as a problem (drugs, alcohol, people, video games). What I point out, and want to point out, is that in the end, this is a video game. It will be a part of your life for days, weeks, maybe a couple of years, and then you will move on with your life. Let's look at the bigger picture. Don't let the frustration from a virtual game cloud your judgement or sway your emotions. Let's all take a break, think about this, and check our selves. Let's be real.

TL:DR It's a video game. Don't take it so seriously.
You do realize that the whole "I'm so pissed off you took a handful of my points" thing is an act and that nobody is actually that mad, right? That some people feel the game is more fun if they make believe like they have enemies and drama in the game? And that what you're doing there is like rushing into the stage and saying "now hold on, this is a play, there's no reason to use your sword on that actor!" ?

Here's the thing. . . in the last hour of an event, it gets CRAZY. Thus, I strongly suggest you avoid it UNLESS you can: a) break shield, b) finish a high value match (worth 40+ points) in 2 minutes, and c) re-shield. Unless you can do this, it's totally not worth breaking shield unless you're trying to get a cover you really need for your roster.

I know it gets frustrating, but your task as a transition player is to accumulate iso/cover to level up your go-to hitters (wolf, thor, daken, capA, ares, etc.), and then from there compete for top 100 in every pvp event. Patience is really key.

as a guy with a decent roster. I have developed the following strategy:

Get a decent roster of 166 3 star people, plus a xforce wolverine over 200.. then get as many marginal characters who are featured in pvp over 100 as possible.

This leaves you competitive every pvp match. It has worked well to this point. Im inside top 25 daken now without trying for example.

that's actually my approach to roster construction. I have every character in the game, even bagman/yelena (although it turns out i'm STILL missing a Dino green cover DAMNIT! grrrr) and all of them have been leveled in some way.

W/ D3's apparently neutering of 4*, it no longer makes sense to bother leveling up my 553 XFW any further. So yeah, my focus is bringing my boys up, perhaps to the 134 level for 3* characters (which in the old featured pvp regime translated to a level 200 character for the pvp event).

I'm sorry but this whole super buff of half the roster is stupid... For those of us who had to fight and scrape to finally move up... And now people with a jug are dominating... I Am almost all 3* at this point... And after all that work now it is pointless... Please... PLEASE don't leave it like this... All it does is help beginners get to the limbo that is some 3*... And then those that are already doing just fine with multiple 3* and 4* maxed... They just get more power... I don't even see a point in trying anymore... Where before i would get at least 300 I'm barely above 200 and all my health packs are gone... PLEASE STOP THIS CRAZY STUFF

No, it's not crazy man. It's EVIL. Why? Because D3 is trying to persuade players to BUY SLOTS and COVER PACKS, so that players can fully participate in deadpool dailies and take advantage of the featured boosted group of characters for the week. It's a brilliant business decision by Miles and company. BRAVO!!! icon_twisted.gif

That being said, let me give a comparison. As a player focused on speed matches, I normally spend 2 minutes per match. Shamsali's match took me 3 minutes. Kallark took 2 1/2 minutes. Yours took 90 seconds, which indicates weakness in your defensive team b/c your Torch is under leveled. I don't want you to take my comment as criticism but rather critique. I realize you're not a whale, and I'm not either. But you need to find a way to level up your featured pvp character as much as possible. I personally took this advice from another player in my alliance. He said to level my Loki ASAP, I added 60 levels to my trickster and my defensive team (Loki/Hood/HT) have given me 5 defensive wins. Never happened to me before.

To be fair, I can lump Predetah in with Apocalypse re: weak HT. Predtah's level 90 HT enabled me to finish my match against his defense in 90 seconds too. icon_lol.gif And I'm up to 8 defensive wins right now. icon_twisted.gif

Wow, you are really good at this game! I can't even beat seeds in 90 secs..maybe 102 secs if I get lucky cascades. Forget any defensive wins...never get those. Keep up the good work!

Is that sarcasm I hear? Here's the thing for me. I DON'T have a 270 character. My max level (unboosted) is 180 XFW. After that, maybe a half dozen 166s. Think about that. How the heck do i manage to break 1,000 points for the last few pvp events with such a weak roster? The answer is playing fast matches between shields. If I don't play fast, I LOSE points fast. I learned that the hard way. icon_lol.gif
