Noobish question, but I've read elsewhere that for maximum returns on placement, you shouldn't even start the event until there are less than 24 hours left?

Is that accurate? I've searched the Tips and Guides forum, but can't seem to locate the post where I read that. It just seems weird to me that D3 would implement a system that discourages players from playing for over half the event. If anyone has a link to the post, (or one with a better breakdown), I'd love to see it.
    It's completely random.
You can get thrown into a bracket where the t10 are all 1K+ even if you start in the last hour.
Joining at the end is a gamble. I was the third person to enter my Women of Marvel bracket with about 36 hours remaining. More than 24 hours later an alliance-mate joined the same bracket in position 475. The time slices mean that the possibility for a stale bracket are much greater the longer you wait. You may get lucky and get a bracket that never comes close to filling and waltz into a top rank or you can get totally screwed. Or, you can be like John1620b and join at position 475 and still manage to grind your way to first. icon_twisted.gif

Here is something that just occured to me as I was planning out my hops for this event: those of us the in the US has a time change to deal with in the middle of this thing. Any guesses how that's going to work with shields, cooldowns and end times?

I've never really paid attention to how Daylight Saving affects our playtime in MPQ.
  • It won't change the duration of the event, just the actual end time. It's still 60h long total. The hours remaining should stay the same. You don't actually time travel for daylight savings time.

Just checked and it seems the end times already take the jump into account, they are listed as 8:00, 2:00, 5:00, 11:00, 2:00 up 1 hour from the normal 7, 1, 4, 10, 1.

Duh, I was wondering why the end times seemed to be a bit goofy.
Our shield/cooldowns timers will be unaffected to that's something that should be taken into account.

Moving your clock forward an hour shouldn't affect a separate 8 hour timer. They are totally independent.

I too am a fan of the event name. I also love the names Blind Justice, and Power of Attorney.
I think you mean Trial by Combat. That one makes me cringe. They really went overboard with the whole She-Hulk, Attorney at Law puns.

Fist Bump is just kind of silly, like it should have been the title of a "What If...?" comic where Iron Fist was the star of Jersey Shore.
  • Where can I get the precise slice end times until they get switched back on in the app?
Thank you for reading my first post.

my daily resupply heroic token gave me:

    is that good? icon_e_biggrin.gif

    who needs pvp?
  • I intended to join late, as I usually do. I open the event page to check end times and ... a divine (or was it infernal?) power moved my hand and I pressed the Join button. My mind screamed "Nooooooooo!!" in slow motion and I knew the event had already ended. A little devil appeared on my left shoulder and with a wicked smile he whispered "Welcome to the grind hell of pvp events". On my left shoulder a little angel was weeping while patting my head.

LOL. I'm getting there myself. #28 with 407. #1 is windowlizard with 938. The sad thing is that I didn't even choose the slice I wanted to. icon_mad.gif

Did anyone else have as miserable experienece in this event as I did?
Had my sights on 1000 points but would have been just as happy with 900 since another yellow X-Force would have been useful to me. Turns out none I that mattered at all since I barely broke 500 points before getting my entire 3* roster killed. Never have I had so many offensive losses in a single event since I started playing this game.
It wasn't even particularly powerful teams that I struggled with. I was knocked out with an Ares/Hulk/loaner team! Anger never went off- just relentless attacks from Ares.
Saw nothing but 4*s after 500 points (which seemed premature) and 22 hours left in the event. I pretty much gave up from there. I broke 600 points and shielded the last 3 hours finishing just under 90th place. Horrendous! I usually do better than that on events I don't care about and blow off.

Really couldn't even say what was going wrong for me other than bad luck with the board - unless others are struggling as well? Wouldn't feel so devastated if not for the fact I had planned my time around this event and had spent the day before working out a shedule for my shielding. Not a great way to kick off a season that I had high hopes for.

    Best laid plans I guess.
  • Got my purple Iron Fist; shielded for the duration at 925. If anyone queues me up, feel free to attack me at will. Not unshielding; only need a black cover for Luke Cage.

I can't believe 925 isn't even likely to get me top 25 though. This thing is murder.

It took 2x3h +1x8h shields, but finally I made it to the promised land of the 900+ points. This is the first time since I came back to the game 4 weeks and it felt great. (Almost forgot to apply the new cover to IF icon_e_biggrin.gif )

Since I was close to 1000 and my place in top 25 is anything but certain (currently #20 with 969) I decided to find 1-2 matches for a final push in the last minutes (sadly no more 3x all AP). However, when I started skipping teams, I noticed that, no matter how much I skipped, most teams were worth only 12-15 points with very few exceptions being at 20+ and a very rare at 40+. The matchmaking system in the game is a joke. When you get to 600-700 all you see are 4hor/XF teams worth 22-25 and when you finally climb to 900+ you see teams worth only 13-20? What's even more confusing is that many of these new teams don't always have XF or 4hor. Grocket, BP, Magneto, even Daken is present in one. Where were these teams when I was climbing (when they would be worth 20-30 points) and I see them only now? And it's not like my score is super high. Just in my bracket alone there are 20 players who are higher than me and some of them don't even have XF or 4hor in their roster. Where are these teams and what is wrong with this game?

Edit: Finally, after skipping 40-50 times more, I started seeing some different teams worth 30+, but now it's these teams that are stuck in a loop. Is this some kind of trick; them trying to make us spend a couple K ISO on the skip button? The matchmaking is all over the place. I just don't get what is happening.

If the only matches you are finding are worth less than 20 points, it's because you are now the unshielded player with the highest points in the pool. The other 20 players that are higher than you in your bracket... are they all shielded? I'm betting they are. Due to the shield cooldowns, it looks like more people are shielding earlier. What could have been accomplished in the last 4-5 hours of an event by using 2 or 3 3-hour shields is now requiring a little more planning, and often a 3/8/3 shield strategy (or 8/3). (And many, many people seem to be using more than that). Because people are shielded for longer, outside of game communication is more vital than ever. Through these external chats people are notifying each other when bigger targets unshield, so that they can be queued, and hit later.

I got up to 900 last night for the purple cover and sat around unshielded for a bit. Got hit. With maxed Goddess/XF, 230 Fist. Once I got the cover (last one I needed), I maxed him, but tanked a bunch of points to friendlies and went down to 600 or so. Climbed back up this morning to 800+. I was the only one in my top 25 unshielded. Of course I got knocked down a bit. I wouldn't want to fight maxed Fist/Goddess/XF, and I'm running it, and can play it better than the AI. So why was I hit by players with less scary teams? Because I was still the only one unshielded at those points.

So are there easier teams to beat? Sure. Tons of them. But they're all shielded and unless you happen to queue one when they unshield to hop, that's all you're going to find. That's why when you find other non Goddess/XF teams, they're likely lower in points. The MMR tries to find you matches that are worth 25+, and will often give you bigger points if it can. If it can't it starts showing you lower matches. If they're worth 13 points to you at 900, they're probably sitting unshielded right around 600, and not many if any players with scores higher than that, can be queued currently.

Joined slice 4 and was the 470th person to join. Then lost my first 3 matches. **** my life.

Edit: Lost a match where OBW picked up 12 purple AP in one turn. Tell me again how the game doesn't hand the AI cascades, D3. I'm sure I'll believe you this time.

I started a push at 550 yesterday. I ended it 4 matches later at 575 points. The only teams there were was 270 XForce and Thors who somehow already have 249 Iron Fists. I lost those matches miserably and the only one I won I was 3 health packs out because of that bleed tile.

I just raged and bought the cover. Even after fully covering XForce Hulkbombing is still way cheaper on health packs.
