Percentage of people who spend money?
I'm looking at my roster compared to some others, and feel either
A. What am i doing with my life??
or
B. Am I the only person not spending money for HP??
I have only been an everyday player since just maybe a couple weeks before the daily rewards started, and my roster includes the usual suspects, (ie maxed Thor, 74 Wolive, 58 GSBW 60 Doom, 60IM40 (not a single blue cover though... to name a few)
I guess the question is...in the long term, how competitive can a $0 spender be in this game?? And what percentage of people have spent on the game??

i spent $$$ when the game first came out. partly because i didnt really knkw what was going on or how things worked....but mostly because i was enjoying the game so much that i didnt mind dropping $10-20 here and there to improve my characters.
the better i got at the game, the more i saw that i didnt need to spend that much cash to progress and still have fun. today, i dont really spend much cash on the game, but i am not opposed to it if i deem something worth it.
in the end, fun is the main reason that i play this game. if i can have a bit more fun in the game by spending a few $$$, then i dont mind.

I think you can be quite competitive without spending money. Two of the most used and useful characters are Thor and Wolverine which are quite easy to get. Also Classic Storm. Other good characters like Hulk, Punisher, OBW and Ares were/are handed out like candy so it's usually quite easy to use them (and have them leveled)when they're featured in pvp events.
With Thor/Wolverine/Ares you are very competitive in the current pvp tournament. Even if you use Classic Storm instead of one of the three others you will do very well.
Lightning rounds are a different thing. For them you need more luck because the buffed chars are not that easy to get.
But otherwise until the nerf bat hits, you can become quite competitive in this game without spending money (or much money) by just investing some time.0 -
I've put $20 in, all for roster slots, which won't be an issue again unless they drop a ton of people at once (I've got 31 slots, 31 characters [everyone but X-Force Wolverine], and will likely have enough HP to open another before I need it), and that's probably it for the forseeable future. I could see allocating myself something like $5/month in the future as a sort of tip to the developers, assuming I'm still playing the game moving forward, but I'll never be a whale.0
-
I spent some coin to get a punisher cover during the first hulk tourny. Other than that it was only 5$ on some slots.0

I took #1 in my Divine bracket that just ended and I havent spent a penny (yet). Ive been top 15 in quite a few Hunt/Hulk submissions as well.0

I put €4.5 for 600 HP in my 1st week because I didn't want to throw away some covers. Of course now I see that other than Iron Man 35, Modern Storm and Modern Black Widow, you don't need any of the other 1*. From the 2*, Bullseye and Moonstone were deleted anyway some time later that week to make some room for Thor and Hulk (who still sits at 2 green covers spectating the rest getting punched repeatedly) and Loki was also deleted (1 purple cover) because I don't see getting his covers any time soon and I needed the space. So yeah, not the most well spent €4.5, but it isn't much either so I am fine with it. The thing is that someone can spend €100 and still not make the progress he wants so I am not willing to spend any more. Also, there are some great games coming out in 2014 which I am definitely getting, at which point MPQ will be used only as a filler for 5-10 games/day if I am in the mood.0

I'll probably spend a little every 6 months. Not because I need something, but just to give something back for the work being done on the game.0

Seeing as I play the game a lot, I invested in our mutually continued success. Not a ton, about what you would spend on a console game, which I consider fair. As I continue playing, chances are i will continue contributing (when my wife isn't looking)
But everything I have, besides y xforce Wolvie, I'm 100% sure I could have earned for free, and even he would have eventually been earned .0 -

This is my exact point. I earned a xforce Wolive (red), from a heroic token the other day, and i was excited...but then questioned whether or not he is worth holding on to because Im not sure I would ever win more covers in a tourney or draw another one randomly.0 -
I've been playing since a few days after release and I've never spent a dime. I have 31 slots filled (everyone except Invisible Woman, I think) a few maxed out 1* and 2* characters. I'm easily in the top 100 every major tournament and I could get higher if I had the time to grind away; unfortunately, sometimes bedtime for the little one overlaps the end of tournaments and I can't really maintain top spots like that.
I'm going to spend some money simply to tip the devs, but honestly the conversion rate is terrible. $20 gets you a laughable amount of purple or an okay amount of gold. The problem is that the gold cost of anything worth spending gold on is absurd. Other than slots, everything decent (leveling skills, purchasing random covers) is expensive as hell.0 -
I've payed for character slots, Maxing out Thunderstrike, Maxing out Spidey stun and buying HP for shields. I love the game, and I'm sure the Marvel license isn't cheap.0
-
I don't spend a dime because I'm cheap. Leveled members of my pool of heroes include:
85 Thor
85 Wolverine (AXM)
85 Storm (Classic)
82 IM40
66 Hulk
64 Widow (Grey)
58 Punisher
50 IM35
50 Storm (Modern)
40 Widow (Modern)
40 Venom
30 Widow (Original)
I usually place top 5, if not top 2, on normal 2-day PvP tournaments. I don't really know how I would do in Lightning Rounds, though I don't think I'm competitive enough for anything great yet. PvE tournament performance is variable depending on how much time I actually have to participate. I think I do alright.0 -

Keep him. Mine is 4/5/4, and only 2 or 3 of those were bought with hp (earned from tournies)0 -
I've spent about 7 bucks so far. All of that was within the first 2-3 weeks before I learned how the game worked and that spending money is not worth it. I actually used my HP on standard covers trying to finish up my Storms or something. I then ended up having to buy more HP when I ran out of cover space. So you could say I essentially paid real money for standard covers, and I think they were all Hawkeye... I also in the frenzy of one tournament ran out of health packs and bought more! omg, talk about useless purchases. That was when I still had a cruddy team too. So I probably finished in the top 50 despite my efforts...
I do still have 8 dollars allotted for the game, mainly to pay back the devs. I figure I've gotten at least 15 bucks of enjoyment/obsession out of this game. Probably more. So I've got 8 bucks in my MPQ budget and just haven't spent it yet.
Other silly thing I've done:
I decided I hated Captain America and deleted all of his covers as I got them...until I saw him in action in some tournament and realized he might be useful and slapped my forehead because I'd basically deleted the equivalent of a maxed Cap.0 -
Most of the people who spend money after the initial purchase while learning do it as a tip to the devs. Once you have played a while youre generally limited by time, which manifests itself in an iso shortage.0

If I never spend money on this game again, D3 have still had more than I would pay for any game on a shelf.0

This. I haven't spent anything yet for game ideology reasons. If I do it will basically be near the end before I stop as a donation in a way. I started mid November and I have every 2** maxed (not ISO..just covers 13/13) except obw missing 2 black (thrown out plenty of her other covers) almost every 3*** at 13/13 (missing 1 green grey suit, 1 yellow/blck hood, 2 blk Loki, 1 red/black hulk, 7 patches covers as he is new), and I am at around 40% completion on the 4****. It's certainly doable but I play very efficiently.in games and so I tend.to have higher placements than I probably "should" based on the time I put in (which of course is still considerable).
My characters are very much ISO starved though. Even though I've used 600+ ISO on characters and probably untold amounts on boosts (it shortens the play time considerably and I used to have to burn through boosts every match using thor, m.storm, free villian to place in old lightning rounds) I only have a few characters that are truly viable. Thor (first character I leveled), wolvie (lvled for tournements), ares (tournements), m.storm (too weak now), im (again..too weak), 3*** im (doesn't fit well with my teams), magneto (the cover I wanted since day one because I love magneto), doom (also a doom fan and I needed a #2 villain for lr), spidey (I like Spiderman and when they changed his purple and I started playing the game more I realized magneto needed. Purple based foil and spidey was perfect)...and that's probably about it for "viable." Others are in the 40s or less but not really something I would play on choice.
This is actually why they should drop ISO costs. I am sure there are plenty of ppl out there willing to drop money on lvling but see the price as too steep. It's good for f2p as it keeps fewer max characters off the board but for thier bottom line having the ISO you could earn in 30 min of lr cost $10+ is a little ridiculous.0 -
I really wish they'd offer special deals like other games do. For example, say a 24 hour deal that gives you 50% more. Maybe run something like that once a week. I'd certainly be more inclined to spend some money if they ran some specials. As of now things are way over priced.0

They had a double ISO sale around Christmas. Still overpriced but it was a hell of a lot better than what they have now.0
