I know I'm late to the thread but... "Comtraya"

So nice to see public dev discussion, the more the better/
  • I'm gonna guess at the new tournament type

I have one suggestion to add:

No Pain No Gain - players get points based on how much damage they get themselves from the battles. Using healing abilities (Wolverine's passive, OBW, Spidey) during a battle will reduce victory points received from that particular battle. Health packs could be allowed outside battles.

Ares would be popular character in that tourney. icon_e_biggrin.gif
  • I'd like to see a new tournament type that separates progression rewards from your actual ranking. You have two scores - a progression score that only goes up as you win matches, and your ranking score, which goes up and down depending on your wins and losses. It would at least allow the more dedicated players to achieve the highest progression rewards (which I imagine would be set higher than 2400), even if you end up being attacked and losing all your ranking points.

I woould play tinny kitty out of it even if it was 12-hours tourney. Much less frustrating than usually.
    So it will never happen.

I'm guessing the new type will be an Ironman type. No healing of any kind, not even health packs. You fight until your entire roster is finished or the tournament ends!

That would be interesting indeed. But asks for major overhaul -- IUC current system exposes your last fighting team in full health disregarding it may get downed ATM.

The attack part could work, but what will be on the defense? My dead team I fought the last time? or the solo bagman I left for last fight? Please design up some details.

That being said, the Tournament type has something interesting to it that is going to change the landscape of people playing that type, so it'll be an interesting one to see how it plays out the first couple times in any case.
Inverse Last Man Standing, the team that survives loses. You always start fully healed and are forced to activate abilities as soon as they become ready. About time the most underpowered chars get a chance to shine. icon_e_biggrin.gif

Patch + Bag-Man + Modern Hawkeye. Give your opponent tons of strike tiles, use Bag-Man to lock the ones you can't match, Hawkeye prevents your red from accidentally being useful. I solved the meta!

Won't work, Patch is currently broken, you get all the strike tiles added to your side. This probably explains how the bug was introduced, they experimented with making Patch less useful for the tournament. he's 3* after all. icon_e_surprised.gif
  • I agree any eta
  • Generally we see the patches show up about 3-5 business days after these previews. So I'd guess Thursday or Monday. I don't think they'd release on a Friday because then if something goes wrong, it leaves them with no coverage on the weekend. I happen to agree about not releasing on Friday when you can avoid it.
  • I hope the skip tax is reconsidered. I'm only ranked 5th in my Divine Champions bracket and it still takes me about 20 skips to find a single opponent with more points than me. I shouldn't have to fight down and risk a juicy retaliation just to avoid paying the skip tax.

    *presses like button*
  • They need to fix the MMR system before even considering putting in the skip tax. If it goes in during Divine Champions, I'll be back to playing a prologue match and collecting the daily reward once a day, at least until there's some more actual content.

the best type of new tournament that would add an awsome feel to the game would be a live one .. but make it in a total different category than the current pvp and pve ones.

What do i mean about a live tournament.. simple.. you queue for the match and you get matched with another player that is queued. and you actually get to play vs a real player.

I am not sure how hard it is to implement such a feature or how hard is it to synch 2 players, but it would be awsome .

It will be a tournament based on skill [and luck depending how they make the matching alghorithm] and the tournament type can be either a long tournament with points like this one .. or something simmilar to hearthstone arena where X players are bunched into a group , after X loses you are out, and the ranking will be made in the end based on how many wins you had total.

But yea i guess its time to stop dreaming icon_e_biggrin.gif

But whatever the new tournament will be i am sure it will be awesome.

Only thing that scares me in the coming future is the pay to skip price. *shivers down my spine*
  • I've thought about a true pvp a little bit and the main change I can think of that would need implemented for that system is the ability to target who you want to attack would need to be removed. That way the attacker still has to decide who to make their match with and keep that later of strategic play. Allowing their tanks to tank and their support to support rather than us being able to pick off whoever we want. All other factors seem to fit in rather well as they are after that.

Only problem i can see with true PvP is the stronger teams would dominate. The advantage weaker teams have now against stronger teams is the AI is pretty dumb, in true PvP the stronger teams will just be that much stronger, especially with boosts.

It would have to be asynchronous. You get x amount of turns against the AI, then your opponent gets x amount of turns against the AI. You keep swapping until one is defeated.

Another way is both players face against the other (with the AI fighting on your behalf) and the person with the quickest winning time wins the match.

Obviously this wouldn't be completely satisfying but at least would represent a different type of PVP that would require different strategies.

I just think the amount of overhead/cash it would require to do true PVP would be way too much. Not to mention all the headaches of connections lost, bad latency and having to police charges of hacking.

    R46 just hit my phone.

As far as I can see, the only visible change so far is that when selecting your opponents in the tournaments, you can see which of the opposing characters are buffed (they have the red crystal icon next to their hit point gauges) before selecting them for combat. Easier to recognize when to skip, I suppose.

Second note: The red crystal also appears on the combat board screen for each character as well. Looks odd, as the characters look like they were all staked in the neck with the red crystal.

And then there's the problem with people who just play to annoy others and don't do their move (so that you'd need to yield if you don't want to be stuck forever in one match) or people who would need 5 or 10 minutes to think about their next move.

If real PVP would be introduced (which would be great because fighting against other people is always more fun than fighting the AI) there has to be a timer implemented into the matches, giving you a 60 or 90 seconds time limit (or something like that) to make your move otherwise you lose your turn and it's your opponent's turn again.
  • Also, just now....

Don't know if this is related to R46 or not, but I just pulled a Green Hulk from a Standard Recruit Token off the first Lightning Round. I didn't think that the Hulk was in the common character pool for silver tokens yet?
