Looks like no one is using shields now

  • The points are all over the place in this tournament. My bracket's top score is 1400. It seems like you really have to use shields extensively to hold your rank right now, but I don't think that's a bad thing as long as you end up getting what you were shooting for. Since I don't need the progression rewards other than the 2400 (which seems to be well outside of reachable at the moment), it doesn't really bother me my score is randomly swinging -200 whenever I go do something else. It's still not hard to get your rating back, and I only need my rating back 3 hours before the tournament ends. Right now I'm just playing to get back to around top 20ish or so, so that I don't end up with a huge hole to crawl out of. It probably depends on your bracket too. My bracket's #10 is 704, so I really don't want to let my rating drop too much (to say, 300) because as can be seen in the screenshot above, it's not that easy to climb your way back up.

If it makes you feel better, my bracket has two people around 1800. I suspect many forum members are just feeling out the scoring before making the big push. As it stands now, I still suspect there will be a handful of 2400s before the tourney ends. Which, truthfully, is probably around the number of players the devs want to hit the last progression reward.

PVP just feels so... awkward now. I'm second guessing whether to push now or even push at all. I see forum members in the top 10 and yet the overall scores are so low.

Yeah, with the way the retaliations work now, I'm just going to make one big push and then consider the shield cost as buying patch covers

I'm curious how much in HP was spent to reach those scores. Since the 4 star covers are worth at least 2500 HP (I'm assuming nobody's pushing for those to just sell it back) it wouldn't surprise me if it took 1000 HP or more to reach that kind of score, not to mention in the process of pushing for 2400 you have a good chance of getting another 4 star cover (for finishing 1st).

I suspect once you have your first 4 star cover, in the long run it might be saner to simply save up 2500 HP unless the opportunity presents itself (e.g. you're in one of those bracket Oversoul was in where it sure looks like you can easily finish #1 if you spent a bit on shields).
  • Lot of work for a little meaningless game in which I'm not having much fun anyways. Think I'm done.

Geeze how many single digit battles was that?
  • Something is messed up.

I've been monitoring how many people have been attacking me for a couple of hours I worked myself up to #1 in the prologue danger room. I don't see any messages that I have been attacked. I think to myself "What Luck!" I decide to break my shield early and try my hand at getting past 2000. I see that I'm able to select shielded individuals in the 2300-2400 point range. No sooner than I do so I'm blindsided by thewreck (you can see him on the screenshots in my previous post). I'm making average to awesome progress but I'm slammed 7 times in the time it takes for me to beat 3 opponents. I'm thinking that's too quick, considering his lineup. 85 Ares, 115 Magneto, 125 Hulk. I attack him, he attacks back. I manage to recover to a bit higher than before and shield up. Then I get notifications that I've been attacked by more individuals.

I'm thinking that he already beat me several times before I broke my shield, the messages queued up, and processed after I released my shield, resulting in many lost points. I was lucky to grab a shield at 1640 (a bit higher than I was). He only attacked me once after I put up my shield and he hasn't bothered me since.

    Maybe I suck
    Maybe he's awesome
Maybe the server is calculating things funny, and updates are delayed.
Maybe he's burning through Hero Points to buy heal packs, and isn't bothering with a spider-man heal.

Maybe Magnetic Translocation is too powerful. I say Bagneto icon_evil.gif

One interesting thing. In these types of tournaments I've never encountered anyone on my leaderboard. I think this is understood to be normal. I fought #1 on my leaderboard, Tmaine.

In my opinion, its easier to achieve high score. Just buy shield and get someone above you and shielding , you do the same and shielding, rinse and repeat. If I have 1000 hp and really want top spot, I would make it too.

I still need hp for cover spaces sadly.

I don't see how it's any easier? Fewer people putting punching bagmans up with shields=less trickledown?

And bugpop, with boosts, I could see him being able to churn through any battle in just a few minutes. You can do a lot of damage without the enemy even moving with a bit of luck in blue placements, and then hulk is able to basically reshuffle the board between anger cascades and then using his green. And of course magnetic translocation one hits.

Which is all a moot point anyway, because lvl 85 boosted ares is absurd
  • Why would I use Hulk Green if I'm using Ares? I can one-shot the Ares on the opponents team, and my green is (3/5). Need about 20 green though

Thereck has been winning questionably for the last couple of weeks. There is strong suspicion of foul play.

There've been multiple people, yes, but those were usually with 1* teams. This is the only posts I can find about him

EDIT: wait, theWreck or the(no w)reck? The later, I can find posts of. But those are mostly about lighting rounds, which honestly he should be tearing through with a high level mag

I've had thereck inflict about 80k dmv to me post rag nerf in a or in under a min not many people think he's doing it legitimately.

Oh was he that guy? yeah, that sounded skeevy
  • Count me in as one of the people who've been attacked by "thereck" repeatedly (4-6 times) with some weak-**** team setups in the amount of time it takes me to win one battle. Even with boosts, there's no way a lvl 77 Loki, 48 Doom, 80-something Hulk (his setup at the time) could beat my team so fast.
  • 7 out of top 10 in my bracket are shielded right now (myself included) for Rage and Ruin. Shield usage was almost nil in the first 2/3 of the event, so overall usage is down, but with everyone trying to lock down their placement at the end I bet they're still coming out ahead on total community HP spend after the price hike. I doubt we'll see the price drop back down.

300 HP spent for an IW cover is digestible; after prog rewards and selling the extra 3* covers it'll be a net spend of 75 HP.

It's a shame that the cost has become too prohibitive for the community to create the bagman ladder to top tier progression rewards. It was fun, rewarding, and felt good to know that I was gaining and giving back at the same time by being part of the leapfrog chain. I didn't encounter a shielded bag team once in Round 2. I've also begun to see people from my bracket in matchmaking (and been attacked by them), which may also be contributing if that phenomenon is common. Why give easy points when it might help a direct competitor to pass you for placement awards?
  • I do notice seeing people in my bracket a lot, and I'm sure this is to counter the tank teams. Previously, tanking didn't really mattered much in your own placement because it's rare you even get hit by someone from your own bracket. I don't think that's a bad change. There should be some negative consequences to put up a big 'kick me' sign on your team.

I noticed overall there's a lot of dead time like there are times where it's pretty clear all the 10 or so guys I get matched up are all currently playing and none of them are shielded. All we do is just trade points back and forth and nobody gets ahead. I also never saw anyone with significantly more points than 1000 show up so I'm guessing they're tweaking the matchmaking again.
