Token Superstitions

  • I whack off before opening a token. Does it help me get a better cover? No. But I don't feel as bad when I open it and get another Hawkeye. This is a pretty tedious ritual when I have a lot of tokens saved up.

If you open a cover at the same time as boom goes the dynamite, it's like a no lose situation.

    OMFGGGGGGGGG!!!!!

Those first two replies on this page have my literally...and I mean LITERALLY laughing my mother freaking behind off in my bed and choking. Holy freaking ****!

    Okay, I have a question, though :

Has anyone experienced the even tokens going......i dunno.....stale? Like, opening the tokens AFTER the event is over, do you think that the developers drop the odds of getting a good cover all the way down to zero?

AND ALSO!!!!! I almost forgot, I've been dying to ask this one :

IS IT BETTER TO WAIT UNTIL THE NEW SEASON STARTS TO OPEN UP TOKENS????? It's off season for me, right now. Do they usually NOT give out good covers during the off season? Should I have opened them before the last season ended?
  • A member of my alliance just had the luckiest run of token luck I have ever heard of (it's what prompted this thread), and it was during the offseason, for whatever that's worth. Another piece of practical advice someone offered up was that you consider what characters are rotating in or out (information demiurge posts in advance in these forums) when deciding when/whether to cash in tokens. For example, with Hulk rotating out, some people decided to cash in tokens now, lest the chance for getting Hulk disappears for however long (usually 1-3 months).

the best way is to EXPECT silver when opening a token. If you open it and it's silver, you have a feeling that you got what you expected, when you open it though and it's golden, then you'll be all 'YAY' and totally forget about the fact that your previous fifty pulls were silver only. Works for me.
  • If I open a heroic and get a gold, I will wait at least a couple hours before opening another one.

I feel like I've gotten more Gold covers from standard tokens than I have from Heroic or event tokens. For this reason I hold my breath a little when I open a standard token but don't really expect anything from the better tokens.

Up until the R51 update, unredeemed Event Tokens were replaced with vanilla Heroic Tokens. Ever since then, Tokens keep the same odds until the next time the event is run. They are updated to sync with the character rotations.

Cashing in tokens during the off-season period doesn't mean you get bad pulls. Most people stash their tokens because they are waiting for a specific character to be rotated in.

I tried to adopt this superstition, but since I get 10-15 tokens a day, I found that I couldnt walk by 9 am.

It doesn't even work! I found that timing your pull to the same time as your (ahem) pulls, just gets you a moonstone cover. Which is helpful in one way, but not the way you intended
  • Tried out the "let them age" approach, and let some tokens sit for few days (longer than I usually wait)........red Gamora from a standard token. Now that the magic of the care bear shake has apparently worn off (and I am simply too impatient to "force the odds" and wait for 20-30 tokens to amass), this is my new adopted superstition......until it quits working for two tries in a row, then I'm coming back for more suggestions.

"Forcing the odds" I like to save 20 or more regular tokens, and then open them all at once to "force the odds." Honestly it seems to net me a gold more times than not. Also at the start of a pve event, go grab a heroic cover for 100 hp's. Usually get a gold that featured in the event. Don't tell the devs though icon_e_smile.gif Hilarious thread!

I promise you you're not changing the odds.
  • Just open your tokens. The only thing that should impact your timing is character rotation.

Off season doesn't change anything. Pulling them in batches doesn't "force the odds". Tokens don't go stale. You don't have to stop pulling after you get a gold.

The person who made the most sense in this thread is the guy who jerks off while opening.

    No, you're not. That's true.

But by opening tokens en masse, you're doing it in such a way that the odds are observable.

If you open 20 Standard Tokens over the course of 5 days and pull 1 Gold, it can feel like a dry spell despite falling within the pull rate.

If you open 20 Standard Tokens in one sitting and pull 1 Gold, it feels "correct".

There's also a chance that the psuedo-random-number-generator for this game is a weak one, in which case opening tokens en masse would actually increase your odds of a good pull. After all, there's no such thing as a truly random number generator, so even the most advanced systems have faults / rely on some sort of algorithmic process. If this is a more simple equation that does factor in previous pulls within a certain memory range, opening a bunch of tokens would actually increase the likelihood of successful pulls as you continue (but of course, not guaranteeing it or increasing the actual overall odds).

I go for the "wait for 3-4 gold tokens" then open them with 15 standard

Do the standards 1st if get a gold do 2 more then switch to the golds.

Had a stockpiling session recently & managed to accumulate 168 Standard & 51 Gold - opened them all this morning: did rather well

    146 1*
    56 2*
    16 3*
    1 4* (ish) - Invisible woman

    Hah.
  • I've always been part of the superstition that, if you have a standard token and a 2 star token at the same time, you ALWAYS open the standard token first.
  • I just open them straight away. I have no restraint.
  • Superstitious nonsense, the lot of you. I don't succumb to juvenile superstition and hocus-pocus.

    Same
  • I open star.pngstar.png tokens up immediately, But standards I save until at least ten since it takes too long to bother through the screen everytime I get them, Because it's a computer with hopefully a RNG determining the results then the chances of pulling something good immediately are the same as pulling something good later. Not like dice games where someone might just plop your dice once and be superstitous about not rolling it in their hand or a cup to ensure random results.

If I pull it immediately and get something good then it might help me immediately rather than not helping until the next event.

I wonder if there were some way to map the results and time between pulls and then determine a timing program to attempt to surpass the RNG similar to the way that MTG buyers can do that with the results of boxes? if they could I bet internet latency would however make it impossible to get actual results..
  • Is there any way to get a Captain Ruvens token without buying from the item mall or from other players? Seems kind of silly that you would have to pay money for quests.
