Token Superstitions

edited February 2015 in MPQ General Discussion
I just wanted to start a fun thread for people to list their various superstitions and good luck tricks to help with their token pulls. (Supposedly today has been an unusually lucky day for token pulls. At least for others, not me).

My completely unfounded and not very successful good luck trick is to stockpile several tokens then exit out of the game and close it down entirely before logging back in and immediately cashing in tokens while whispering "gold" under my breath. The first time I did that, I got a 4-star Thor. But it has never worked since.

  • I have a superstition that they "mature" somehow and I try to wait an hour before I open them. I know it's not true because a lot of people stockpile them a lot longer than that with no better luck. Then again, maybe they also "spoil" with time.
  • I'll only get 1 gold from tokens a month and it's 50/50 if it will actually be useful. Hopefully this is just superstition and not reality but the past couple months have not been a good indication
  • I have to check the draw rates on a token before redeeming it. Otherwise I get garbage.

To be fair, a lot of times it's still garbage.

i open the token, take a deep breath, and throw my phone against a pillow or cushion.

to be fair, that might not technically be a superstition....

I don't roll any of my tokens until the event is over.

I take a deep breath and close my eyes. Then when I open them, I see silver...

I cover the screen and raise my hand a little at a time. When I see silver poking out from under my hand, I make the Price is Right "Sorry, you lose" sound effect.
  • "Forcing the odds" I like to save 20 or more regular tokens, and then open them all at once to "force the odds." Honestly it seems to net me a gold more times than not. Also at the start of a pve event, go grab a heroic cover for 100 hp's. Usually get a gold that featured in the event. Don't tell the devs though icon_e_smile.gif Hilarious thread!
  • The one I had that worked for a long time was that I would write down the characters I had that needed iso, how much iso they needed, how many levels they will increase, and what their level would be once done (to the point their covers would allow).

For the longest, whenever I had done enough to have to rewrite the page I would then get another cover. It's seemed to have dipped off the last month or so. Possibly because I am getting more iso than before and only managing 1 gold per ten pack the last few seasons.

I cash in a few standard tokens until I've gotten a string of bronze characters. Then I cash in the Heroic or a special token. In my mind, I pretend the game will increase the odds of a gold character because it gave me a string of bad ones. Just tried it this morning, and I got a gold Blade!

I hear that sound in my head everytime the AI matches a Fury demolition trap. "Whomp-whomp-wo-wooooooonnnnnn"

    I've switched superstitions many times.

I had a buddy who got amazing draw luck and he said open them right away. So I did that for a while...didn't work.

I used to go through my roster and focus on the ones I want and picture gold in my head as I clicked , didn't work.

Now I wait until a have a few standard tokens and some heroic or event tokens so I can start opening the standard to use up all my bad luck in hopes it runs out by the time I get my last real token opened. Don't think it works...lol.

I may invest in some torrot cards or similar and consult them before I open tokens - that's not overdoing it right?

I try and stockpile all the standard tokens I can and go through them all at once. I find myself getting more excited about standards than about heroic or event tokens. All my gold covers seem to come from standards. Odd but true!

I didn't really want to give away the CareBearStare secret to our token success, but if it benefits the entire MPQ community I think it's worth sharing. Note: This only works for cell phone players. When you click on the token, shake your phone 3 times. Don't shake it more than 3 times though, otherwise you're just playing with it.
  • Ha. I really like the idea of "forcing the odds" from now on. It's like trying to win a staring contest with the concept of randomness.

When I was transitioning to a 2-Star roster (shout out to Polarity's Guide), I also noticed a rather hard to explain streak of random daily-sale heroic tokens resulting in PVE featured hero covers. Happened for about 3 or 4 PVE events in a row. Probably just coincidence, but your post makes me want to try it out again just to see (I don't normally buy tokens anymore as they are too fail-likely for getting 3-stars).

-And I just tried the Care Bear Trick (don't worry, your secret is safe with us), and got a CStorm blue from a standard token. (I don't need that cover, but not a bad result =c) ).

I've definitely ritualized the token opening process, and it's ensured that I have a few tokens to open every day. After dinner (or at least in the evening), once a day, I open the following:
Ten standard tokens. If I hit a 2-star or better, I stop for the day.
One event token (Generally of the kind most plentiful in my token stash)
    One Heroic token

I also tell my cat Mango to "cross her paws for luck" before the token opening begins. icon_e_biggrin.gif

Who can blame me, though? Check out this cute tinykitty!

Whoops, that's a tawny frogmouth - I always get the two confused. Here's Miss Mango:

I always just open tokens when I feel like seeing what I pull. No rhyme or reason, no hoarding or instant opening. Just when I feel like opening, I open until I don't feel like it.

So far, it's led to me getting 3 Surgical Strikes from standard tokens, so I guess it's fine.

I still am a firm believer of "redeem in batches".
    No less than 10 SRTs.
I like to "make a 10 pack" by waiting until I have at least 10 Heroics.
Special event tokens I usually redeem right away though.

One other thing is for the longest time I was getting better rolls when redeeming after midnight or late at night, like 2am. This no longer seems to work
  • YES! 7:00 am was my designated lucky time to cash in tokens (until it stopped working). I forgot about that already.
  • I click crotches. Or where the crotches would be, if they are covered. If the crotch falls outside the token redemption area, I boop the featured character on the nose.

This doesn't help in any way. I'm just weird.
