Ok well now you can attack people that have spent hours climbing up the progression ladder and knock them down. I know they won't like it but they should've bought a shield icon_razz.gif". Congrats demiurge, you have truly thought of everything icon_e_smile.gif. Also, thanks for the timely response to the ticket I sent you about the hunt event. Yeah I'm talking about the one that ended over 3 weeks ago lol.

My thoughts exactly. Having the low ranking players hit you for 50+ makes the shields way weaker and they cost more? If anything, they will be pretty much worthless. Part of me hopes they will make these changes because this will probably force me to leave and I already put more time in the game than I would like.

It is funny if you think about it. A game that should have a price $15-25 for what it is, gets released as f2p with the most absurd pricing system I have ever seen (€45 for 25,000 ISO -> 10-15 levels for a mid level hero. Really?) and more hurdles than I can count and you still manage to find ways to make things worse just when we see a ray of light in this mess.

Edit: Oh, about the skip cost. Why would I want to face an opponent with max Ares, Hulk and Spiderman (in the Ares tournamen)? That is a certain loss for me as a low level player and you punish me for skipping. Worse idea ever. I wonder who comes up with all these bright ideas.
  • I don't like this... I think basically you are killing the game for new players.
You have no chance to get a decent placement in a tournament (and thus progress in the game) without shields, and now you are doubling their price. You are charging ISO to skip fights you can't win, which limits the amount you can invest in your chars. You already charge HP to even have the possibility to acquire new characters (roster slots). Couple that to future nerfs to Tholverine, the ** chars first available to new players, and explain me how the heck he is supposed to compete now.
I don't even care since I'm already beyond the self-sufficiency point, but for newcomers this game is not even becoming pay2win, it's becoming pay2play.
Please stop this nonsense and turn to cosmetic stuff if you need more money. I have 3000HP and no way to spend it... I would buy alternate skins for my favourite chars in a heartbeat.
  • I don't get these changes really. I feel more and more penalized for playing this game.

    Typically mid score tourney opponent search looks like this for me: 6 points - skip - 9 points - skip - 10 points - skip - 7 points - skip - 9 points - skip - 26 points - yeah fight
Now you want me to pay ISO or fight through all the low teams? Well guess what happens next when all of them get this nice 30 point retaliation on their screen. I get pummeled down and get again the choice to retaliate a low score opponent or pay ISO...
Oh but don't despair you can just shield up to save your ISO(for double the cost).
Progression rewards also nerfed, 3rd time in a row now is it?

I think I'll just pop in 2 h before the event ends when everybody has nice 50 point values already, get whatever placement reward I can get and skip bothering with shields and skips and whatever.

    Keep your updates!
    Bha....
  • I got to 400+ pts and just got hit from a player with 0 pts for -38 pts. Won't retaliate bcos he only gives me 6 pts... is this the norm from now on? Also shields are so expensive now.

On the plus side I'm finding a lot of easy opponents now without tanking.

I honestly have to say I dont like the change in the progression rewards..
I mostly just do some fights to get the heroic token (or whatever token it is) and if Im bored I fight to 400 for the HP and snatch the cover..

Now the cover is gone, the HP is on higher points and only the boring token for 300 points is left.. that really makes the pvps more boring, Im sorry v.v

    Edit:
And I dont want to start on the ISO for skipping thing.
Better make its x-skips and than u have to wait some minutes or than u have to fight. But having to pay for every move u make in this game?
    Not fun.

I mostly skip because Im tired of fighting Thors. Not that I cant beat them, its just BORING AS HELL.
So now Ill be fored to fight the same team over and over and over again, otherwise Ill loose the ISO I try to earn?
Riiight, that makes so much sense.

This game is supposed to be FUN.
    1) we cant play anymore PvE because there r no new missions
    ergo
    2) not much else to do much PVP
even if u really hate it.

And now they even tell u when and how and who u have to fight in PvE AND remove the easy to get rewards?
WTH are not-PvP players are supposed to do here?
  • Reading through this whole thread (and honestly most of the forums) feels like I, as a relatively new player, am getting completely ignored in this game. It's all about you big shots up there in the 2k+ brackets.

My max level char is still 50, I don't have any fancy strong rare characters, and my max points in a PvP event hover around 500~. To gain those 500 points is a herculean feat each and every time for me. Usually I have to skip around 8-10 matches between every fight to get something that's possibly winnable for me, and that comes with a 10 points reward most of the times, which I gladly take. Now you're telling me I will have be penalized for each of those skips ? Even now in the pvp event when I skip around, 80% of the matches I get are vs characters who I know just crush me without leaving any hope of winning.

As it is, it feels very, very hard to progress in this game (even though I have spent some $ on it), after reading through this proposed changes I just feel absolutely crushed. Shield cost changes have a similar feel to me. Once I managed to shield myself on around 550 points, and get a really hard earned Punisher cover for all my trouble. Now even this will become harder because "top players are swimming in gold" ? Well I'm definitely not, and it looks like I won't be any time soon...
  • I remember all the complaining when when Shields were announced. 'Oh, now they're going to make us pay to keep our points!'

And as soon as the shields came out, everyone was like 'Woo, progression awards! Great, I drop a shield, go to sleep and wake up with a top 10 finish! Yay!

I will hold my judgement until we see how it pans out. Obviously the devs have designed, and tested this internally, and there's numbers behind the scene that make sense to them, and to justify making the mid level comp more competitve.
  • I'm struggling to do anything in tournaments as it is, alongside levelling a character above 65 because of the massive ISO costs.

None of these things are good news to me.
  • Skip cost why not if low point game (under 15) do not appear.

As for Shield cost, augmenting it means player can't break even in a tournament meaning, shield will be only for "rich in HP" players. I used shield because if I played well between progression and ranking reward I could make it (not counting covers as HP as I consider those HP price way too expensive, but considering extra-slots)

We will see but I do think winner pool will get even smaller
  • I love the expanded "hit-range" recently introduced (although I have been hit pretty hard by all those 50s), but I hate the doubled costs of Shields.

Atm a lot of people have HP flying around due to the generous hunt-rewards in the 1-2-Tier, but once that dries up Shields will be pretty unaffordable for low- and mid-range-players :-/ Please continue experimenting with different Shield-restrictions (e.g. cooldowns, rising costs or reduced damage), so we can come to a more comfortable solution.

I feel you. My top character is Wolverine at 76, Black Widow (Original) at 70 and Ares at 60 whom I leveled for the tournament. It is the same for me. Getting to the 500 was an endless grind with back and forth. The only way to make significant progress in the game is to get some high health, high hitting heroes that act as a scarecrow to enemies. I realized that during the Ares tournament. I had saved around 30k ISO and put it on Ares and a miracle happened. With the boost he receives as the tournament's VIP, the retaliations dropped by ~75%. No more 1 step forward, two steps back, which is the only reason I placed in top 15 in the first tournament (shielded for 100HP 8 hours before the end at 1200 points). The 3 hour shield is not an option since the tournament ends 7am and I am losing sleep for this game. Oh, and the skip button worked like crazy during the climbing time. Now that the players got some ISO and leveled their Ares I see more retaliations since player controlled Ares will eat for breakfast an AI controlled Ares of equal level despite still being fearsome when he gets lucky occasionally. As a relatively new player I just can't waste 200 HP when the current changes will allow other players to climb way faster than I did benefiting from retaliations against high ranked players passing me in the last 3 hours. So the much desired 3* cover rewards are mostly for people that already high leveled heroes, people who are incredibly lucky in the last few hours and avoid mass loses, or people who have a ton of HP and shield all the time after they move forward a bit.

Need I remind you that Ragnarok, Spiderman and Wolverine were also designed and tested internally and were apparently fine, ... until the weren't?

PVP is all about risk for a high reward, if you can't lose points that what's the point? No reason to play.

My question is opposite: if my only choice is to either:
    - stay safe at place where you win 140 ISO price
    - go toward the top where you are bound to lose more points than you gain while you finish the game

then what is the reason to play?

The strategy they push for seem to find some off time period other players sleep, sneak up and dump your HP into the shield that lasts till end. Any and all the hero-buliding or tile-matching aspect replaced to juggle with arbitrary timing conditions.

No, the norm is to get hot for 50 and chance to fight back for 0. You see the lower values just because stayed with the 400 range. Go just a little up for the rest of the fun. icon_e_surprised.gif

lol True. I got a new game on Steam 2 days ago (The Banner Saga) and I'm really enjoying it. I feel like a gamer again and not a mouse clicking machine trying to outpace the opponents.
The worse thing is when you think you have a shot. Once you realize you don't you move to new things. With the new changes, I won't even bother to place high. I'll just go for the HP at the rank level in the last day when everyone is at 1000. I guess in 2-3 months of casual play I will have enough to level the abilities with HP.

Not really true, a lot of actual players figured out the good way to use them in like half hour after initial rage dissipated. And counted that the implied cost is below the gains. That then got proved in practice exactly as predicted.

Now the same pool of cunning players say this is a hopeless frustration generator and nothing else -- best to sit it out or leave. Now it is not about tile-matching but arbitrary timing stuff, like the wrestling minigame in Witcher2.
  • I don't mind getting attacked. It's natural in any competition that if you're on top of the hill everyone's trying to knock you down.

For me, these mechanics can be adjusted over and over, but the bottom line is that right now, your ranking in a tournament is based 100% on two factors: 1) IF you win, and 2) WHEN you win. There is so much more that can be utilized in order to make things more dynamic, specifically in PVP events. How about a speed bonus? how about varying the points reward based on what team you use and what team you fight against, both character-wise and level-wise? More points if you fight/win without boosts than with boosts.

These are factors that would make not only the individual event rankings more dynamic/interesting, but also give a stronger picture for your overall ranking system on which all is based.

I don't know what the ratio/weighting should be, but that would really make things more strategic for players and rewards skill far more than it is currently.

Example (numbers totally off the cuff, but you'll get the idea:
You run across this rather average-ish opponent in a PVP tournament ranked 50 spots ahead of you with a 85 Thor, 69 Spidey, 75 Wolvie-2*.

If you crush him in 90 seconds with an unbuffed team of 140 Hulk, 130 BWGS, and 85 Thor you earn 20 points (10 base points 5 for rank difference, 2 for the fast win, 3 for no buffs)

If you slowly beat him in 4 minutes with 3x buffs on a team of 50 OBW, 65 Spidey, 45 IM35 you earn 27 points (10 base points, 5 for rank difference, 10 for level difference, 2 for Star-level difference)
If you beat him at an average time of 3 minutes with 1 buff on a team of 85 Thor 69Spidey, 75Wolvie-2* (same as you're attacking) you earn 15 points (10 base points, 5 for rank difference)
If you beat him in 60 seconds with a silly example team of a non-buffed team of 45 OrigHawkeye, 50 IM35, and ModernStorm 50 you earn 31 points (10 base points, 5 for rank difference, 5 for very fast win, 3 for no buffs, 8 for Star-level difference)

You get the idea. And you use the same principals for losing points when attacked, except cut everything by 1/3 (so if the winner of a match gets 21 points, loser loses 7) or something like that...

This creates a far more interesting dynamic - people will be changing teams throughout events depending on who they're facing to optimize their points, they will be trying to fight faster sometimes, they might take a risk and not buff against a certain opponent... and the difference between 1st and 2nd could theoretically be one player doing it better/more efficiently with a greater challenge versus another, while playing against the exact same opponents.
  • Seems like a cash grab.
