Point the Third: Most of the alliances had begun to coordinate and work as a team, timing their shields and hops. This is a GOOD thing, increasing the strength and effectiveness of Alliances. This change has made any of that sort of communication almost worthless.
No, it's made it essential, unless you want to see nothing but a steady stream of 8-10 point targets once you hit a decent score. And to me, this is a BAD thing, because sometimes I just want to play, without having to coordinate my schedule around a dozen hop buddies. It's bad enough I have to coordinate play around my wife... i don't need the extra logistical hassles.
  • OK - I'm going to be CALM and POLITE and I'm going to grind my teeth through this post.

I'm failing to understand the logic behind the 8hr cool down on all shields. MAYBE it's because I'm not a genius, maybe it's because I don't have a business degree, (oh no... it does say Mba...) or maybe it's above my pay grade and Area 51 does exist.

Regardless - I need clarification to understand it and I'm 100% sure everyone wants to know.

The typical MPQr wakes up, makes coffee - plays a little while avoiding work. Break time... few more battles here - run nodes there. Lunchtime - Play harder because let's face it, we eat our lunch at our desks to have more time for PVP. SHIELD. Afternoon break - Break shield, play a few battles, Shield. Go home - play a few rounds before dinner. Shield. Kids are in bed YES! Break shield, play to my heart's content and MAYBE shield for 8hrs... might sneak in a round before bed... we'll see. Sounds great right? It's casual, I'm climbing at a decent pace. I'm protecting my score and everyone is happy.

NOW REALITY. Day before new PVP.

Whip out day planner... ok - meeting here for 2hrs, dentist here, I have a 45min commute, there's the kids' soccer practice, gotta return mom's phone call (oy that's another hour at least) OK got it! I can play if I wake up at 4am and use a 3hr shield that way I can pencil in a few rounds before my meeting and use an 8 hr shield and that will bring me to roughly dinnertime... OK I can do this! BEEP BEEP *grumble* SNOOZE SNOOZE... Wake up 4:57 Make coffee.... realize my MPQ plan no longer works. Now I'm frustrated - This game is more difficult to plan than my hectic life as a single mom with a full time job managing 350 people. THWAP! Brick to to the face..... OMG this isn't a game anymore! It's a second job THAT I'M PAYING FOR!

That's the ONE example. People who have more time on their hands and prefer to play more - CAN'T even if they wish to PAY to do so. What company in their right mind prevents me from spending money?!

I'm not sure how many of these reality checks have caused people to quit but I know a LOT of alliances have lost players because of it. Now - you can say... BLAH a few players. Let me do the math. 10 players at $100 a month = $1000 lost revenue. Over a year that's $12000 lost revenue. Those are ten I know of. I'm sure they aren't the only ones. So shields are "a drop in the bucket" as one has said before. A drop of water has been used by the Chinese for centuries.

I'm not sure how much consideration is actually put into these changes but new blood needs to sit at that table. Someone with the foresight to see the consequences of all these changes.

    OXFORD ENGLISH DICTIONARY:
    game1

    Syllabification: game
    Pronunciation: /ɡām /
    NOUN

    1. A form of play or sport, especially a competitive one played according to rules and decided by skill, strength, or luck.

The game is no longer played according to skill and strategy.

Games are meant to be fun and have the purpose of releasing serotonin and endorphins leaving you with a "happy" feeling. What players are experiencing now is a release of cortisol and adrenaline which have no place in a match 3 game. VERY unhealthy.

    Something to think about
  • My quick opinion because many here already have said what i think about this issue:

If the 1300 reward its not more attainable for normal ways ( and everyone is a normal player without a top alliance support ) , it shows that the new shield system is broken.

My viable solution: lower the cooldown at least of the 3 hour shield to the same 3 hours too. Its simple.

    Just wondering what people think
If you are wondering what people think you should put less biased choices

if you are looking for a circle jerk about your opinion you did it right
  • There are several different issues that should be addressed regarding D3's implementation of shield cooldowns.

I think everyone would agree that a 2 Button survey is of extremely limited utility in addressing the multiple issues that people are concerned about and have been responding to within this forum... ISO deficiency, Character Transitions, the role of alliances, etc... (One might even say "Useless")

Whether or not there were financial motivations or sequelae is irrelevant to me. If people want to pay to play a game, they will pay to play the game.

What I find particularly disturbing is that fundamental changes have been made regarding gameplay that impact HOW the game is played, and WHEN I am able to play the game.

I am NOT saying that changes should never be made to the game. However, when there is a "problem", (which may be brought to light by some individuals being able to score 6000 points in an event), a response by D3 that effectively prohibits an average person from reaching a progression reward at 1300 points,it illustrates their response to the "problem" with shields was poorly conceived, poorly implemented, and should be adjusted, so that at least people are able to implement a reasonable strategy within the new gameplay system, or pay their way out of the stupidity that has been implemented.
  • By the way I abstained from voting... shield cool down should be fixed.

In Avengers PVP I think it is apparent where the HP money went. People can't spend HP efficiently to shield - so how can they spend HP and shield at the same time?

Spend that HP on 4* Thor! She's boosted this event, so of course you see more of her. However, I've never seen so many fully-leveled Thor's before. Can't shield many times? Instead throw out a team of all 270's, that should fend off most of the teams.

I voted to keep it, shield cool down always seemed pay-to-win to me (I know, some say they have that much HP anyway...) But spending all that HP to get a 270 roster seems even more P2W. I'm fine with that! However, the reward structure needs to be put where everyone can get what they were getting again, and the MMR shouldn't be showing me 270 rosters in every node every skip.

I also thing you saw more of her because people who have her, (higher tier people ) were not shielded
  • I didn't vote, because honestly there's very little almost to none chance that they will change the shield back. BUT, I'd like to think there's a middle ground.

I call **** that the 8hr cooldown is so people don't have to play every 3 hrs. Nobody really 'have' to play, we play because we want to. (You're not the boss of me D3!).
If the change is so people don't abuse the use of shield, then the change is way too extreme. 8hrs cooldown on 3 hrs shield?? wth is that?
What make sense is to have the cooldown time the same as the shield duration, especially for the shorter shield duration. 3 hrs cooldown for 3hrs shield, 8 hrs for the rest.
