He's currently 4/3/3 and level 6. I haven't bothered to put any ISO into him because I already have maxed out 2* Wolvie and 2* Thor which obviously share the same colors. I'm currently sitting on 86K ISO that I've been saving to eventually pump into 3* characters one I have enough covers. Here's my truncated roster.
2* Thor, level 85, 3/5/5
2* Wolvie, level 85, 5/5/3
2* mStorm, level 77, 5/2/5
3* Doom, level 64, 3/3
3* Thor, level 64, 2/2/3
2* Daken, level 61, 5/4
2* OBW, level 53, 3/2/4
3* Hulk, level 53, 3/1/2
3* Cap, level 51, 2/2/2
2* Mag MN, level 50, 5/2/5
3* GSBW, level 43, 3/1/1
3* Panther, level 41, 3/2/1
3* Punisher, level 41, 1/2/2
3* Wolvie, level 41, 2/1/2
3* Psylocke, level 28, 3/1/3
I left out all 1* characters and any 2*, 3* and 4* characters that don't matter for the sake of this discussion (too few covers or not interested in leveling at all).
So should I bother with Ares at all? Wait until he's 4/4/5 before leveling him up? Or just hang onto him for my tank team?
I wouldn't bother. While Ares is a solid character, you already have a maxed out Thor/Wolvie like you said, and Thor and Ares are pretty interchangeable. You're better off saving the iso for OBW and 3*s.0 -

Agreed with the OBW, but you need to have a solid 2* lineup to begin cracking into 3*'s and Ares plays much better with OBW than does Thor, that my 2 cents0 -

I think Thor/Wolvie/OBW with C. Storm back up is solid enough to start the 3* transition. I'm not sure if things have changed that drastically post thorverine nerf, but I've always believed that 3 level 85 characters is more than enough to make the transition. Pumping another 70k iso into Ares will only slow the transition down once you actually get enough covers for someone since that represents almost half of the iso needed to level a 3* to 141. I guess if the original poster is still struggling to make the transition after getting OBW to 85 then he should level up Ares, but he should just go for the transition if he feels like his team is good enough to do it.0 -
Thanks for the input!
I'm able to consistently rank in the top 10 in PVP events with my current team so I'm already building a 3* roster. I just need to wait until the covers I need cycle through the prize list. If things go my way I'll probably have a fulled leveled 3* Lazy Thor within a couple of months.0 -
Was just playing the latest Dark Avengers PvP "Bad is Good", one of the opponents was Ares, He killed himself with his yellow ability, Sunder, but the yellow countdown tile did not disappear. When the timer expired, I took damage, not enough to effect the outcome of the match, but still.
Has this been happening all along? Can't say I have faced Ares enough times to have this situation arise before now.0 -

Yes. I found a thread that is exactly 4 months old today. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2130&p=298880 -

What's funny though is that if he dies by you with the tile out, it will go away, but if he kills himself while putting the tile out, it doesn't.0 -
Everybody already knows about the Ares Sunder bug where if using the ability downs him due to the self-inflcted damage, the countdown will remain to strike from the grave,
well...
Just had this happen to me with in the Hunt; Alask stage "Last of 'em" where you are up against a PvE set of Ares, Venom, and Ragnarok.
Enemy Ares used Sunder to down himself while hitting my Lazy Thor, the countdown stuck around, etc. My turn I used OBW's blue to team heal and more importantly increase the countdown, then I hit the remaining enemy team with Lazy Thor's Call the Storm. It downed Venom, but it also removed the countdown (?!) . The battle was still going on since the enemy Rag was alive, but at least I didn't have to worry about the Sunder anymore.
Maybe this means you can escape Ares' last strike from the grave by putting more of his team in the grave with him? It might matter for later on when increasing scaling means people will be facing Deadly Nodes/Lvl 230-400s with Ares' Sunder able to take out 2 of your team...
Just something to keep in mind when you think all is lost...0 -
Hmm, or perhaps it was the aoe attack 'damaging' an already dead Ares that did it. Interesting stuff; thanks for letting us know.0
-
Sounds like Ares damages himself first, and THEN casts Sunder. The Sunder tile was then owned by the next enemy in line, which was Venom.
Sounds similar to when Moonstone takes control of a countdown tile. She becomes the new owner.0 -
You could get a similar result if the check for sunder removal is on character death. When venom dies, countdown timers are checked for death, and then it realizes that Ares has been down all along. Without the code, it's hard to tell for sure.
This kind of bug is easily fixed by having a reactive approach to the game state. When the tile itself is in charge of listening to its owner's death, all you need to solve the problem is to push the current state the moment someone subscribes to a game state, which is something standard and generic.0 -
It'd be interesting to test this with Moonstone stealing Sunder, and then Moonstone dying when the Sunder goes off.0
-
Yes, using an air will tap the downed ares and remove the countdown.
Other oddities with modern hawkeye. If hawkers avoids an ability or stuck and the recipient dies, the enemy team will not rotate. If you do not manually select a new enemy, you will be beating a dead horse, and waste your attack on the downed opponent. At that point, the enemy team will cycle.0 -
Didn't I post in this topic? Was my post deleted?
Whar iz mah post?!0 -
I noticed this weekend that using OBWs blue wiped Ares Sunder countdown if he was down. He was the only one downed when I cast the CD increase, dont recall if it was the half heal or whole.0

Just had this happen versus Ares, Mod. Storm, and Doctor Doom in a Lightning round today:
The enemy Ares cast Sunder on me and DID NOT create a Yellow countdown tile at all! There was several free yellow tiles available too.
How it happened:
Computer team just had a massive AP cascade on me, I made one match on my turn (Green to throw Patch in front for the inevitable), then on the computer's turn I began to eat all their skills as expected.
In order: Mod. Storm used Mistress of Elements, then Lightning Storm, then Hailstorm, then Ares used his Sunder.
But this time after Patch took the Sunder damage, there was no Yellow countdown tile made even though there was maybe 3 or 4 free yellows after Hailstorm covered random tiles.
I took the initial damage, but with no countdown, there was no worry about a second hit or Ares healing himself up.
No ideas on this one, just another weird observation. At least they weren't high level PvEs, but again, maybe it will come into play for someone later on like in a Simulator PvE event with LvL 400s or something, and they will know they have a better chance at surviving instead of having to choose "Retreat"...0 -
Who do you all think is a best partner for Ares aside from OBW? I was thinking Daken? I've been using Wolverine; works well on offense but terrible on defense.0

Ares/OBW/Daken is a formidable 2* team.0 -
Ares is fun to play when he's buffed. I was wondering how scary a Lazy Ares would be0

Does anyone have Lvl 85 Ares and CStorm? Which of them tanks for Yellow and Green?
At Lvl 85, they both do 39 Yellow and 50 Green. So I'm wondering if I should keep CStorm at Lvl 84.0
