Curious how end times will affect rubber banding

Rubber-banding is relative to the other players in your time slice.

So that adds an interesting dimension. Is it better to be in the time slice where the crazy of crazies is and rubber band of them and maybe miss the final refresh due to end time or join a easier ending time bracket where the global leader sleeps etc. I guess what that comes down to is just how many people out there that grind every refresh and if your after placement rewards or progression rewards.

The 'crazies' that were crazy enough to consistently play during ridiculous end times, will likely migrate to time-slices that better fit them as well.

I wonder which time zones will be most competitive...

I'm not out to secure top rewards, i'm in the long haul, HEAVY minimum effort for reasonable rewards camp, and i'll need to find a way to game that mindset if i want to continue playing MPQ.

I feel end times that are good for working people in North America would be the most competitive. Most of the player base is from the US and end times that lineup in the evening when their shift or working hours are done would be more appealing. End times that are more EU friendly IMO might be a bit less as the player base is smaller in EU.

However, others might think the same as me, so their might be an even split between both.

Nope, all will be equally as competitive as there is the same number of people in every bracket (irrespective of time zone) so the competition balances itself naturally.

You could make the case if you REALLY wanted that the time zone finishing last would be the most competitive as Alliances might be relying on people in that ending bracket to lift them into the top 100 if they're just outside. However, I doubt that'll be a big issue.

I don't see how that follows. The time slices are entirely deterministic, and their numbers are really heavily weighted towards NA
  • There should be Time Slice rewards for being in the Time Slice with the most points!

Says Hulk starts in 4 hours, which is 15 hours ahead of schedule, so looks like the test is in, with the times that Will indicated.

But each bracket (regardless if time zone) is made up of a relatively small set of players. US players might end up with 100 brackets in their slice, sharded similarly to now. EU players might get 50 brackets in their slice but it doesn't mean those brackets will be any easier or tougher as the same sharding rules apply. Numbers of players in each slice are irrelevant when we're competing in size restricted brackets.

Confirmed: UI scroll-bounce blocks last option in the end-time selection popup.

    2 Issues.

Firstly, the last bracket is not selectable on my iPhone 6 Plus. This is a serious problem if someone really wants to join the last bracket since this will eventually determine alliance score.

Secondly, there needs to be a way to see what the rewards are before selecting the bracket to join. Knowing what the rewards are will make it easier to determine which bracket I want to join.

The individual bracket sizes are the same size, yes, but the MMR pools will be different sizes. And if you get in one that doesn't have high point people to climb off of...

Confirmed the same problem on Steam account with mouse-scrolling.

Posted this in the Event thread for Smash Hit, but when I chose the current running time slice, I automatically got bracketed. Keep that in mind when choosing your time slice if it is currently running. Not sure if people who have chosen later time slices will get automatically bracketed or not.

Yeah, same here with not being able to pick the last bracket.

I think it also adjusts the times based on time zones based off of talking to other players. One had a 12am end time, whereas mine was 1am.

Same here, this really sucks since it's the time I want.
  • I forsee some interesting dynamics if they ended up allowing the last time slot to be selected before the event ends since you might have virtually no competition because everyone else already gave up trying to select it.
