So it turns out I've been overboosting

I came to a realisation the other day that i was massively, massively overboosting for my fights and I figured I can't be the only one so i'd make a post about it.

Time was, I'd look at the level of my opponents and as a matter of course get my usual +3 AP to all, +3 AP red/yellow, +3 AP Green/black for my Thor/Wolvie (original I know)/Doom team. As you can imagine I was losing ISO most tournament and I had no idea how I was going to level my characters beyond the 50 range.

Then I started playing the Hulk games and I ran out of ISO (or near enough to count) so i started playing without and it was easy. 185 characters? No worries, just got to pay a bit more attention to the board. Of course you can still get flattened by an unlucky board/power combo but that only costs healthpacks...which you regenerate with time, not lose permanently like ISO.

So now I've applied this to the PVP tournaments and I've gone from an ISO deficit to actually making it and levelling my characters. Level 85 Thors and the like don't scare me anymore. You always have the advantage even without boosts.

so yeah, thought I'd share. Anyone ever find themself in a similar situation?

  • I did this early on in my MPQ career. Sometimes I cry when I think about all the ISO I wasted
  • Someone should add this to that "I wish I knew when I first started" or whatever thread in the tips section.
  • The economic decision for me is:

Iso for boosts vs. HP for health packs vs. Waiting for regeneration.

Since I want to play the most number of times (requiring winning fast and with minimal damage), Iso is the cheapest price to pay.

And now I'm out of it. LMAO
  • I expected more chemical addiction metaphors in this thread.

I still boost a bit. Last 15 minutes of PvP or if I'm going for a high progress reward. There's also a few missions in Hulk where boosting is practically mandatory for me.

I know I've spent tons of ISO on boosts, but I think a lot of it was well spent to get a bunch of 3* covers from tourneys.
  • I only boost if I'm one game away from hitting a certain rating threshold (because you never know when you'll suddenly get hit for minus 200 points), and of course during the last frentic hour or so of a PvP tournament.
  • I started the game a couple weeks ago and I just stopped boosting so much just yesterday, thanks to the advice of a fellow forum member. I really enjoy having a powerful Wolverine instead of paying Iso-8 just to give myself AP for the Hulk event.
  • I did this in the widow maker tournament, but I was trying to win 1st prize

This. Last 15-30 min of PvP or 240 rag pve missions. Other than that I dont really boost
  • I'm old school I go no boost 95% of the time a save all my free found boost until I really need them I find most teams other that the lvl 249 rag team (which goes a lot easier with 20% dark avenger boost) to be beatable without boost
  • I didn't for a long time, but do a fair bit now. On these events, there are so many missions to do, that getting through them a bit quicker is worth the cost. I have been trying to scale back usage a little. I would rather not have every mission be a big struggle, but there's a bit of a fine line between struggle and cakewalk. I tend to use more boosts when I have to use certain characters or when fighting certain characters.
  • I still boost all the time in PVP. I only get to play once a day, so I need to maximize my time. When the rewards are 70/140,I usually come out slightly ahead on ISO (when you factor in the other reward tier ISO prizes)
  • I had to be convinced to use boosts... but I still use them pretty sparingly. There's only been a couple of times I've used boosts for the entire tournament -- the one I recall specifically is a Rags Lightning Round where I ended up placing top 8. Worth it.

I'll still boost the last 15-30 mins of PvP and in some of the insane PvE missions. But for the most part -- nope. As for downtime -- you have 5 health packs. Manage them. Having them sit at 5 is worthless. Use the Venom fights in the Prologue to heal as long as you can. After that use OBW or Spidey if you have them (I didn't have either for a long time) to heal.

As I said elsewhere... if you're excited about the 500 ISO from Hulk missions, then realize that you're giving that up every 5 fights that you use +3 all and +3 2color boosts. That's a LOT of ISO.
  • I tank in Shield training and then go slaughter the little puppies that I see all around me when I check back in later. That lets me earn plenty of easy ISO for boosting in the Hulk missions.
  • I boost for speed. But I've been boosting since two Lightning Rounds ago, and for every single match (even non-Lightning) up till now.
  • So I experimented with my Ragnarok (69), Wolverine and Thor (both maxed) team in NHB.

I got to rank 1 despite barely using boosts, but using up all 5 health packs. I would use boosts when my team is close to dying. If not for the **** matchmaking that resulted in 2 guys attacking each other I wouldn't have used as many boosts as I did.

Now I don't have health to do The Hulk. The wait for the refresh should help.
  • I've been boosting for the last bit of the PVP tournaments and in the PVEs that are like 200+ levels so I haven't spent much iso on boosts. But I find that I "waste" boosts since we can only carry 10 at a time and I often find more while grinding the easier missions.

    This.

    Also, doombots lol.
  • I didn't even realise you could buy extra boosts till recently. My ocd/old school rpg ways stopped me from ever going below 5 for some reason ;D

I have a very embarrassing question: Where do you buy boosts? I play the PC version, by the way- maybe it hasn't yet been added?
