The majority of veterans that were around when the game was in its infancy and remember the earliest PVEs, the 20 covers per skill, the broken Loki, etc. are almost all gone. Most of the people that were the top players at the end of 2013 have quit.
The game is less than a year old and has zero ability to retain veterans because the game tinykitty all over them constantly.0 -
What bothered me most when I started was the lack of a proper tutorial. In the beginning I had no idea what covers were for.0

I am in a top 100 alliance. Although we like people to score as well as we can, we don't have minimum requirements. The main thing we ask is communication so if it is an event you can't play much, someone else can pick up the slack.
I have a daughter that plays daily with a strong 2* roster. She always has more ISO than she can use because she only has a few 3* characters. Several times a week, she comes into the living room and plays MPQ along side us. She is just as happy winning with her 2* roster as we are with our 3* roster.
I am 50 and I've been in a lot of interest groups over the years. One commonality to all of them is new people complaining that more experienced members have it easier. That isn't particular to any game or activity. That is life. When you are new to something you are always disadvantaged. You have fewer resources to work with. You have less experience to draw upon.
I live and work with two of my grown daughters. It is not uncommon for one of them to express how much better I am at something. Of course I am. I've been doing stuff twice as long as they have. I should be better. When they are my age, they will be more proficient at what they do. That is simply the nature of the beast.
Ultimately this is a match 3 game. If you can't get over the level humps, there is always Candy Crush or Farm Heroes.0 -

At first I thought you were a f2p players, so I didn't want to comment (cos it *is* tougher for f2p players, though not that long).
I got my max cover sentry and ldaken without paying a single cover for it. I did it in the space of 2 months plus. How did I get it? By competing in pvp and pve, by tokens. Pvp is the most efficient I feel, because they give you 4 covers within 3 days
When I didn't have sentry, I shield hop with a combination of patch, Lcap, lthor and Hulk. Not even patchneto. A cautious shield hop strategy will allow you to get top 5 to top 10 easily. And you will still break even.
You also need to recognise whether you need covers more or iso more. Buying iso is a terrible idea, and they kept it that way because they don't want it to be p2w.0 -
homeinvasion wrote:NorthernPolarity wrote:There seems to be this implication in this thread that 4*s are vastly superior than 3*s and that's simply not true. X-Force and Fury's power level are very similar to the top tier 3*s like LazyThor, BP, etc so I don't get how the transition is that much difficult now that you have those characters in the mix. Complaining about having to fight 4*s instead of 3*s doesn't make too much sense because fighting an X-Force or Nick Fury isn't that much harder than fighting a LazyThor or Black Panther. X-Force is harder on defense since his green is good, but people aren't even using Fury right now because his abilities are so slow. The transition is a lot harder than it was say a year ago but I feel like the X-Force buffs haven't done anything to change this except for I guess the psychological impact of "Oh man I'm fighting a super rare 4* that'll take me a long time to get instead of a 3*".
Honestly Np There is noone on this forum that I respect more than you, Straight up your input is always honorable and to the point with a depth of understanding that no one else has at all ever. Please may I oblige you to answer: I just leveled my only 2 stars of Bullseye/ Hawkeye/ Moonstone. Which were the only 2 star I Unlocked, then I get thrust into 250 level xforce/ 166 hood/ 166 thor and this is equal how????
Hmm .... I don't get it. You said that you have just been levelled your 2* but you have spend thousands of dollars on it?
If you only have 2*, there's very little chance for you to get top 10 in pvp. A more realistic chance is top 50 so that you get at least one more cover for 3*. Pve also helps as the easier scaling benefits the 2* roster more.0 -
I have yet to spend money on this game and if you don't get caught up in the PvP rat race you'll have a lot of HP left over to buy covers provided you somehow got 1 of each so that they can be upgraded. It seems to me people who are perpetually short on HP tends to be using shields in PvP, not too active in PvE, and have way too many roster slots relative to their roster strength. PvE often have better HP rewards depending on the sub structure, especially for generous events like Iso 8 Brotherhood. There's no need to have more than 20 or even 10 characters unless you're regularly competing for top 10 in PvE. PvP you can literally get away with only 2 characters if they're the right ones.
Using a 3 hour shield to secure a Loki cover that you immediately sold back for 500 iso is a loss of 75 HP. For that matter, it's still nearly a full loss if you never plan on leveling Loki (a base level Loki with 5 in purple is slightly more useful than one with 1 in purple but the difference is rarely meaningful). This amount adds up really fast.
If you're just transitioning, running into X Force is no worse than running into Thor, because at your level a Call the Storm will wipe you out anyway and you won't be able to appreciate the difference between a Surgical Strike into 2 X Forces or a Thunder Strike into Call the Storm. They both result in your team being totally dead for comparable AP costs.0 -

In any type of online games, the dev need to retain new players and veterans. For new players, the challenge is to engage them and let them feel that they are progressing at a reasonable rate. For veterans, the challenge is to make them feel that there are things worth while for them to play the game ("end game" content").
D3 has done a lot of work for the new players. For the veterans, it is not that they have not done anything, but there's an issue of no end game content. Once you get all the covers of the characters, there's nothing really for you to strive for, except for iso.0 -
I'm someone who came into this game pre-Ragnarok nerf and owing to a bunch of different reasons (including poor luck with pulling covers from the Prologue), I have a mostly built 2* team with a few semi-built 3* characters. This makes me both a semi-vet (given when I entered) and a semi-newer player (if we are going by who's in my roster) and my primary concern is like jozier's - that the game has been catering more to attract new players... but isn't doing quite so hotly in regards to retaining its veterans.
I haven't had much luck pulling covers from either the PvP drops or the Prologue (still not done collecting Prologue covers and it isn't from a lack of trying!), but having had the opportunity to see other newer players enter the game (people I know in real life), I can see that they're having an 'easier' time making progress than I ever did when I was first starting out. In fact, they're winning 3-4* characters while putting in minimal effort (not talking about gross rubberbanding; that's another issue altogether) and I'm scooping up all the 2*s (still) and a very random 3* here and there with a lot more time and effort put in.
All these new changes - nerfing, funbalancing - don't affect the newer players as much because they're either 'not there yet' or they haven't even started the game yet and in all honesty, will likely reap the rewards that may come owing to these changes.
Unfortunately, these same changes do tend to affect the older players who have been working on the game for a while and who are in the middle of transitioning or building stronger rosters and who have developed attachments to certain characters.
I'll use my own experience as an example: the Ragnarok nerf did nothing to me because I was new and couldn't find use for a single Ragnarok cover I had picked up. On the other hand, the OBW nerf was difficult because I had just built her and was just getting started on using her. The MStorm nerf was difficult as well because I had a really difficult time transitioning from 1* to 2* (the Prologue, again) and I still used her because my CStorm wasn't yet strong enough to be of use.
Change isn't bad, but because changes are for the future to improve the future (supposedly), the people who are most likely to see the bigger benefits of the changes are the newer players OF the future while the older players get to experience the totalities of what 'change' might entail which includes the ups/pros of the future... and the more immediate downs/cons if the change was unfavorable to their roster, play style, etc.0 -

There's neglecting the end game and then there's intentionally trying to canibalize the vets with things like death brackets and scaling and nerfs and the death brackets. And the death brackets0 -

There's medicine to heal ur "wall of max 3*" pvp headache: pill of tanking, swallow it. There's 2 way : 1. intentional defeat 2. setup tank team.homeinvasion wrote:..Please explain to me how I transition, please oh wise zen master of secret Buddhism, outline below your secret dragon style kung fu techniques that entice new players to participate.
My experience on transition :
> February : finish all story mode, play pvp to get 100-150, pve just couple of nodes i can handle, patiently and successfully max my 1* team : mstorm, mbw, juggs (best trio 1* imo)
- And then slowly transitioning to 2* by aiming top 100 in pvp to get 2 covers of 2*. Sometimes intentionally aim top 100 to aim 2* cover, i.e : i choose top 100 to get 2 covers of 2* thor than 1 cover of GSBW. Slowly build my thor, when i'm running out of healthpack i play against lvl 2 brawler in story mode for 1 hour to get 1K ISO,lol. Thor/mstorm in envi/sand board is my pvp dancefloor.
> March : got my 2* trio maxed : thor/m.storm/mn.mags. With this trio+mstorm i always get top 10 in PVE, well top 25 or 50 when i missed final min grind. End of march build "TheSpartans" ally, play PVE when LT was introduced in game and immediately abandon ally after that (kinda pissed i can't get 4th LT from ally rewards)
> April : clan hop journey from top 250, top 100 and finally meet "BestHasArrived (BHA)" on pre-S1. When joining them,my best 3* is 89 DD.Totally out of league, i'm 2* in gangs of 3*. After S1 got my 1st 100+ 3* full build which is LCap.
> S2-S4 : "BHA" transform to "Lost Legion", join them and this is my huge turning point.. "Lost Legion" in average top 25 on every events. It means lot of extra covers and hp. In the end of S4 finally have 12 max 3* (big thanks and respect for LL crew)
> Now : Build "Bart Simpson" and hopefully can help 1*,2* transition (casually).homeinvasion wrote:..seriously I challenge anyone to explain how you max level 3 star sentry within a reasonable time frame with bullseye, mstorm and OBW? Why are 2 star competing against 4 star? did I miss something?
Summary :
- To get 3* covers : join top 100 ally.
- To build 3* covers : play hardcore in Lighting Round, aim top 50. U'll get around 80-90K ISO in just 2 days.0 -

My father said to me before he died: "Jim, "never argue with an idiot, you can't win". Please again explain how I get my 13 cover sentry with 2 years, please.
Apart from the fact that you insulted me I will try to reply to you once again in a helpful way, although I think I should take your dad's advice in this case.
Sentry was a Season reward in S5. I got it and now I am waiting for more covers to come in the future. However, since you want him so bad and you clearly stated the amount of money you spend, this was your chance at him if you didn't have any covers of Sentry. You could get the one reward, if you did not already, buy all his covers along with the ISO to max him and then go compete like you so much desire.
If you are very enraged and you dislike the game so much though, you can quit the game and be happy again.0 -
