No Love from D3 for New players

Please note edit: I was as drunk as a Russian sailor on shore leave when I wrote this, it can probably be taken down. Sober me kind of thinks drunk me is an arrogant tinykitty, lol. The only real part I would keep is that 2 stars need to compete against 4 stars which are really only now coming onto the horizon, I would like to see 1 star,2 star and open events with appropriate rewards for each.

Firstly can D3 tell us the mud map of how a new player is supposed to transition from 2 star now that you unleashed 10,000 max level X force wolverines that they are supposed to compete against with Ares and Hawkeye. Less than 1 week after the Cmags nerf and every team I look at is Xforce/ Hood ( I call it X-Food )
Nick Fury is about to go more full on mainstream with hardcore Iso dedication from everyone that max covers him. which will compound the impossibility of transitioning more.
The worst part of the game is already trying to transition to 3 star which you just made worse.
Your whole business model is the rich get richer the poor get poorer. The 200+ day crowd have the complete lions share of events so they win all the covers, which compounds the problem further. They have the covers to compete and win all the covers to keep competing.
Meanwhile everyone else is left with some random lottery to win covers out of packs and in 5 years may have one max cover character.
Please, PLEASE, PULEASEEE do something about the transition for new players.
P.s. FYI I have max cover X force and Fury, this is for long term sustainability

I am sorry but I will have to disagree with you. I am in my 2*-3* transition. At the very beginning I might say. Frankly, I am more than enjoying the game.
I do not know how you perceive the game, but I play it to primarily have fun. If at some point I can go higher I will be happy and feel good about my progress, but it is not the ultimate factor that will make me appreciate a game.
Making it easier to transition will not make you happier, it will just bring you closer to quitting the game, as then you will start saying "There is nothing new for me now". Learn to appreciate the journey and not only the destination my friend. There is quite a gameplay and nice covers that this game offers. I opened my first 10-pack yesterday and I was more than excited with my drops that I had to post them in the forum to share my joy. Maybe I got lucky, but then again I have made some stupid moves and deleted covers that I regret now because I did not know they where useful.
Reaching the top faster is not THE goal. Enjoying yourself while doing it will give you more pleasure and save us from rage posts.0 -
the longer the game goes on the wider the gap.
firstly the more characters reduces the odds of getting the 3 star you are after which increases transition time the longer the game goes
they are constantly reducing the ability to be sure of a cover and just forget it in PVE or PVP with rubber banding unless you are west coast USA
established players keep winning and rolling their wins meaning no rewards form play, the only way of getting a cover is through tokens with again, shock horror, diminishing odds
seriously I challenge anyone to explain how you max level 3 star sentry within a reasonable time frame with bullseye, mstorm and OBW? Why are 2 star competing against 4 star? did I miss something?0 -

If this is the case, you're seeing a billion XFood teams because you're already through the transition. 2* players don't see that, at least not until they hit 700ish in PvP.
With my team of 24ish lvl 94 characters (incl Fury/XForce), I rarely see Hood, and any XForce I see is also in the 90-120 range (underleveled). The frequency in which I see him has only bumped slightly. It's still mostly Thor/Ares/OBW/Wolverine, with Stormneto, Hawkneto and random Johnny Storms. There are occasional other under leveled 3*, but they're very beatable at those levels.
Any 2* player that is willing to shield (not even hop, just shield) should have no problem getting a cover, and depending on the event 2 covers, not counting alliance covers. My bracket for the Simulator PvE was loaded with 2* rosters in the top 10, so all of them got at least 3, if not 4 Thors.
It's still plenty easy to compete at that level. It's not a fast transition (i'm at 208 days and counting), and maybe that greatly differs from the people who did it from launch, but I don't see it as restrictive. The only problem with the lengthy rosters is the cost of keeping those characters, where buying the HP to keep up is nearing mandatory levels (just see how many "who should I drop?" threads there are from people trying to stay F2P)0 -
I can see some of your points. But point out the perfect game and I will completely agree with you. If there was such a perfect game you would not be here posting **** about MPQ. You would be playing that game. This is the closest you get to a decent MARVEL Heroes game. To my opinion, it is a game worth spending time in it. Becoming obsessed with it and spending tons of money is another thing and I will never go down that way. I just like a casual game to play everyday and get lucky once in a while.
The developers have done many great stuff along with all the negative ones you mention. It is not fair to mention all the negatives without acknowledging their work first. Being a developer myself, I know what it means to do something and right when you think you have a breakthrough, you have created 10 other bugs.
There is Yin and Yang in everything. Same goes for MPQ. This does not mean that I cannot enjoy the positive aspects that the game offers me. Sure the negative ones are annoying, but I have waited for such a game far too long to keep focusing on them.
So what I do is play the game for the fun of it and when I get frustrated or hit a wall guess what, there is real life to distract me. It's a perfect combo for me. After all that's what a game is for, distract you and make you feel good for an amount of time. Not make you obsessed and broke. If that is how you feel about this game and it is time to quit and let others who actually like it enjoy it.0 -

Just compete within your brackets. It seems to me, that D3 has gotten better at sharding. I have alliance members who were in brackets where the top score was 700-ish. The 4*s will come.0

I wouldn't call myself a kid. I am about to have my own kids as I am married for some time. But if you want to make a point by calling me that, then go ahead.homeinvasion wrote:so relegate new players to 1 star purgatory then 2 star purgatory and now 3 star purgatory till they can transition to 4 star land after what 10 years of play while they build their team to a point they can compete, or conversely pa money to compete, dude I spent over $3,000 and cant compete in 3 star land versus a wall of max Xfood. Please explain to me how I transition, please oh wise zen master of secret Buddhism, outline below your secret dragon style kung fu techniques that entice new players to participate.
The fact that you spend such an amount of money in this game worries me. Seriously you could buy a car with that amount of money. On our topic though. You already know that you can pay endless amount of money and you are still giving it away on lottery tokens. If you want to challenge your chances fine go ahead, but if you expect to advance just because you gave away X amount of money it will not work. For the only fact that the game is built around this and you know it before hand.
The only way decent way of going at it is place top 100 yourself and with your alliance if you can. That will provide you covers over time and slowly help you progress. Then you can throw in a reasonable amount of cash to speed some things up if you want to.
If you want the game to assure you that you will be the best by just throwing in money then that is a clear P2W game. You can spend another $3000 and still not be able to compete. This is a good sign of how the game is not pure P2W and it also provides some balance if we can call it that. You can't just come in the game and insta update all the characters to max level with X amount of money and be competitive. NO, that is wrong. Instead the game makes you play the game, along with its goods and bads, and makes you play for your covers.
Sincerely, it is not hard to place in top 100 in pvp in order to get your next cover. Especially if you have an alliance that does that too, it is even better. It is what I do and I am very happy about it.0 -

As previously discussed, at length, competing within your bracket is just a plain horrible idea.
The lower top scores was in large part because people were adjusting to a MID TOURNEY significant patch, although there were always brackets that people lucked out in.0 -

I can't even pay money to transition
I've only spent 1bout 10$ to purchase inventory slots but even if I did decide to put let's say 20$ a month it would be useless:
I can purchase a few covers for BP and Sentry but the other ones I don't even have level one so I can't do that and now that they have removed the "Get this character for sure" when you purchase packs, I might as well just get a Powerball with my money.
On top of it my present roster makes it impossible to get top 10 I can get top 50 maybe, so I can't earn those 4* guys either.
It looks very bleak, gone are the days where I grinded my CMags, Patch and Punisher covers, but hey they are in the business of making money I'm just not in the business of giving it to them for horrible odds of getting what I want.0 -
homeinvasion wrote:Please again explain how I get my 13 cover sentry with 2 years, please.
They've given out at least 3 just from progression in the last couple months. If you're in a top 100 alliance, you can get at least 2 every time they run it. So even if they run Sentry once PvP every other month, it would take a maximum of a year (0,2,4,6,8,10,12th months)
Realistically, between progression, tokens, PvE and PvP, it's likely on average a 6-month process. Of course, anyone with disposable income can shorten that process, but F2P, it's really not that hard.0 -
I would only recommend spending money on roster slots or on cover upgrades (i.e. 1250 for a 3* cover upgrade). Spending money on packs is too random and almost guaranteed to cause disappointment / bankruptcy / both0

Not sure why you are so defensive. I would think the answer to your question would be "spend $3000.00". If you have really spent that much money and can't compete
I wouldn't call anyone an idiot...0 -
Giving 2* covers as random drops for pvp wins was an absolutely huge positive step for new players.0

There seems to be this implication in this thread that 4*s are vastly superior than 3*s and that's simply not true. X-Force and Fury's power level are very similar to the top tier 3*s like LazyThor, BP, etc so I don't get how the transition is that much difficult now that you have those characters in the mix. Complaining about having to fight 4*s instead of 3*s doesn't make too much sense because fighting an X-Force or Nick Fury isn't that much harder than fighting a LazyThor or Black Panther. X-Force is harder on defense since his green is good, but people aren't even using Fury right now because his abilities are so slow. The transition is a lot harder than it was say a year ago but I feel like the X-Force buffs haven't done anything to change this except for I guess the psychological impact of "Oh man I'm fighting a super rare 4* that'll take me a long time to get instead of a 3*".0

you gonna get kicked out pretty fast of a top 100 alliance if you can't get 700 in PvP- no soup for you!!!!!0 -

a) I've been in two, neither required 700 from everyone.
b) 700 is very doable for a 2* roster.0 -

Honestly Np There is noone on this forum that I respect more than you, Straight up your input is always honorable and to the point with a depth of understanding that no one else has at all ever. Please may I oblige you to answer: I just leveled my only 2 stars of Bullseye/ Hawkeye/ Moonstone. Which were the only 2 star I Unlocked, then I get thrust into 250 level xforce/ 166 hood/ 166 thor and this is equal how????0
