No Love from D3 for New players

I've suggested a few items that would be good for newer / transitioning players.
12 or less tournament
Only characters with 12 or less covers can compete.
Level Cap tournament
Only characters under level 40, 60, 80, 100 can compete.
The Lightning Rounds are great for new players. They could be even better if arbitrary level caps were placed on them. Such as ... only characters under level 140 can be supporting characters in this Lightning round.
Some events start with fixed teams. They could do a whole event with 30 different fixed teams, ultimately rewarding the people who played the weird teams the most effectively.0 -

X-Force and Fury's power level are very similar to the top tier 3*s like LazyThor, BP, etc so I don't get how the transition is that much difficult now that you have those characters in the mix. Complaining about having to fight 4*s instead of 3*s doesn't make too much sense because fighting an X-Force or Nick Fury isn't that much harder than fighting a LazyThor or Black Panther. X-Force is harder on defense since his green is good, but people aren't even using Fury right now because his abilities are so slow. The transition is a lot harder than it was say a year ago but I feel like the X-Force buffs haven't done anything to change this except for I guess the psychological impact of "Oh man I'm fighting a super rare 4* that'll take me a long time to get instead of a 3*".
Honestly Np There is noone on this forum that I respect more than you, Straight up your input is always honorable and to the point with a depth of understanding that no one else has at all ever. Please may I oblige you to answer: I just leveled my only 2 stars of Bullseye/ Hawkeye/ Moonstone. Which were the only 2 star I Unlocked, then I get thrust into 250 level xforce/ 166 hood/ 166 thor and this is equal how????
Haha, i would say that my understanding is lacking compared to some other people on this forum. And yeah, i sympathize with your situation: im just saying facing xforce / hood / thor isnt significantly harder than facing 166 sentry / 166 hood / 166 daken. The situation sucks either way, but the xforce buff didnt make the transition that much harder because xforce isnt significantly better than existing top tier 3*s.0 -

They've given out at least 3 just from progression in the last couple months. If you're in a top 100 alliance, you can get at least 2 every time they run it. So even if they run Sentry once PvP every other month, it would take a maximum of a year (0,2,4,6,8,10,12th months)
Realistically, between progression, tokens, PvE and PvP, it's likely on average a 6-month process. Of course, anyone with disposable income can shorten that process, but F2P, it's really not that hard.
So 2000 people who are mostly already the people who do well in events and have banded together can follow your timeline. Game has what, 100k users give or take 30k or so. So your plan works for the top 2-3% of players?0 -

Dont forget that quite a few of them are also those who both play PVE hard for the covers and often spend $$. These days, of low odds tokens, the reward covers go to those that need them the least.0 -

I'm F2P with 9 Sentry covers so far
- 2 from initial PvE (one in game, one placement)
- 2 from PvP (one individual, one alliance)
- 1 from Season 5 progression
- 4 from tokens (including 2 from the last PvE where his draw rate was boosted)
To me, the 6 month process seems reasonable and I am a top50 PvP type of player, who is steadily moving through the transition, definitely not the top 2% of the player base.0 -

Consistent top 50 in a bracket of 1000 makes you a top 5% player, and 4 sentry from tokens is quite lucky indeed. Clearly I am playing devil's advocate here. Obviously some people finished him long ago already and some have lots and lots of waiting till they can have a 166 Sentry (myself included) The real question is what is the average time for a dedicated player to reach that goal. But we don't have access to that statistic so we move to anecdote and conjecture.0 -
The bigger problem is that this game forces you to stop playing in PVP once you reach a point where you can't beat the teams above you, especially with shields. No 2* team is going to win against a maxed X+LThor+Hood team.
The poor get poorer? That makes no tinykitty sense, especially considering brackets. Should players with 1 week behind them be entitled to 3* covers? Some 2* players find it hard to win 3* covers if 2 or more of the following are true:
A. They don't have a good alliance
B. They aren't willing to put in the time
C. They aren't willing to put in the money
D. They aren't good at the game
There are plenty of players who had a good alliance and put in the time and earned their way into 3* land.0 -
homeinvasion wrote:Firstly can D3 tell us the mud map of how a new player is supposed to transition from 2 star now that you unleashed 10,000 max level X force wolverines that they are supposed to compete against with Ares and Hawkeye. Less than 1 week after the Cmags nerf and every team I look at is Xforce/ Hood ( I call it X-Food )
Nick Fury is about to go more full on mainstream with hardcore Iso dedication from everyone that max covers him. which will compound the impossibility of transitioning more.
The worst part of the game is already trying to transition to 3 star which you just made worse.
Your whole business model is the rich get richer the poor get poorer. The 200+ day crowd have the complete lions share of events so they win all the covers, which compounds the problem further. They have the covers to compete and win all the covers to keep competing.
Meanwhile everyone else is left with some random lottery to win covers out of packs and in 5 years may have one max cover character.
Please, PLEASE, PULEASEEE do something about the transition for new players.
P.s. FYI I have max cover X force and Fury, this is for long term sustainability
I'll keep this simple. Almost everything mpq does is for new players and transitioning players. If you have not developed a high level roster you're not going win a PvP, but why should you?
You have just as much of a chance of winning every pve and in some cases more.
With current drops and lr, you should easily be getting 30k iso a week.
You're real question seems to be, how can transitioning players catch up our pass players you have put more time into the game then me? My question is why should we be able to do that?0 -

Really, the guy who spent $3000 is calling the free player a whale. Can I get whatever you are on?
I don't do well because I have a superior roster but because I have learned from mistakes I have made in the past and from ideas I have picked up from this forum.
For example, in the simulator PvE, I entered the hard nodes around the 1.5 day mark, played them for about a day until the scaling got ridiculous and settled for a top10 finish. Then I jumped into the normal event around the 12 hour mark and beat on it for the remaining time, earning 2 top2 and a top5. That was worth 11 heroic tokens and 2 Thor covers. By focusing on one event at a time, I was able to maximize my results for much less effort.
I have 7 3* with 9 or more covers. Instead of maxing them to the highest level possible, I keep them all at 110. This is for 2 reasons. One, it allows me to experiment with different team designs and figure out what I like before I make a huge Iso investment. Two, it keeps my PvE scaling lower, since that is based (at the start of the event) on your highest leveled character. When I figure out the 7-10 that I want to take to 166, I will start moving them all one level at a time.
As for advice my dad gave me, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. My point is that if I had made a large cash investment into this game and was not finding the success that I hoped for, I would listen to people who are successful without spending money, rather than calling names to anyone who dares to not agree with your statements. If you need a Yes-man, put a bobblehead on the desk in front of you. If you want to improve at this game, listen to the ideas others have.0 -

I'm not in a current top 100. Our group, if it at least puts half-butted effort in, finishes around top 200. If no one tries except one or two people, we're still around top 400. That holds for PvE and PvP.
So we're not really talking about 2k vs the entire player base. You're talking 2k vs maybe 10k tops that are actually trying to be competitive, with the rest having found a game where they can use <insert favorite character here> and don't give a hoot that they can't own a maxed Sentry. In addition, that 10k which are actually competitive can probably finish top 25 if they really try, regardless of level.
That initial condition is a bit presumptive, yes. If you want to say its closer to 8-9 months than 6, I won't argue. However, I don't think it's much longer than that, if it's really a goal that you want to achieve.0 -

I'll grant the 5%, although I consider myself top 10% roster wise.
Since I started tracking in the last week of Season 4, I have earned 158 heroic tokens, which have yielded 40 3star covers. Then throw in the 10 3 stars from 302 standard tokens. Based on 20 characters in the draws, the expectation is for 2.5 Sentry covers, so definitely a little lucky, but not excessively so.0 -
Trisul wrote:Giving 2* covers as random drops for pvp wins was an absolutely huge positive step for new players.
This. D3 does care about it's new and transitioning players. They lowered the reward for the 2* cover to 500 also. If you are new new, these are great. If you are in 2*-3* land, aim for top 25, be happy with top 100. Eventually you will have a 13 cover 3*, and then you dump all your iso into him until he is 166.0 -

Increasingly I have to think that it was meant as $30.00 not $3k. There is no other reasonable explanation.0

This thread is funny because D3 only cares about new players.
They have done everything they can to **** over and get rid of veterans.
The majority of veterans that were around when the game was in its infancy and remember the earliest PVEs, the 20 covers per skill, the broken Loki, etc. are almost all gone. Most of the people that were the top players at the end of 2013 have quit.
The game is less than a year old and has zero ability to retain veterans because the game **** all over them constantly.0 -

I'm F2P with 9 Sentry covers so far
- 2 from initial PvE (one in game, one placement)
- 2 from PvP (one individual, one alliance)

in 6 months he will get nerfed0
