    here i'll save you time
mechgouki: but I want the best possible wolverine!
forum people: you'd be better off using that ISO for developing better covers
mechgouki: i'll never get the top rewards because this game is too unbalanced, I'd be happier making a character I know I can be amazing with

(two months later ** wolvie gets nerfed or a better 3*** equivalent is introduced)

mechgouki: **** this game all my hard work in this character and they just power creep it out i quit

When you have 50 out of every 2000 players who can actually get prizes, working hard isn't worth much of a damn.

For other games, they have stuff like Event Dungeons, where you just have to have a decent team, go through the event, and you can get a good prize. They don't set it up so that only the top 50 can get good stuff, so that's fair to everyone.

You said 2000 twice, and even put it in bold the second time. What in the bloody blue blazes are you talking about? Seriously, are you even playing the same game as the rest of us? They gave heroic tokens to 400 out of every 1000 in each event bracket for goodness sakes and with rubberbanding, that should have been fairly easy to get them in every other event, even without being able to do the most difficult missions.

As to the other point, that is exactly what the progression awards are for. Would two more IM40 covers have been better for you than modern Hawkeye? Perhaps, but Hawkeye was featured in this event. The awards are different each event and they have, in fact, given away three IM40 covers in progression rewards in one of the heroic events (Juggernaut, maybe?).

Look carefully at the bloody Lightning rounds. When I fight a match in it, I am placed in at least #2000+. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that means that there are at least 2000 players playing the current match.

And, only the top 50 get prizes worth a damn. So I don't think I got the numbers wrong.

Maybe you know something that I don't. Maybe there are more rewards given than it appears. You know something that I don't? Let's hear it.

Lightning rounds, due to the time limit and lack of bracketing, are probably the most competitive PvP event. It's not too surprising that the most competitive players are going to be taking the prizes there. Yeah, the odds are going to be against a new player, but it's possible to build a good team without playing lightning rounds. Almost every other PvP event is bracketed to 200 (or, like the most recent one, bracketed to 500 with the prize ranges multiplied by 2.5). Even something like top 50% will get a good reward. Not to mention progression awards. And then there's the PvE events, which hand out ISO and tokens like candy...
  • I must've started playing 6 weeks ago.

I've only started to play Lightning Rounds seriously -- and even so, only to have an outside chance for cover rewards. It has been just too difficult especially with buffed Ragnarok teams.

I think I can do a little better based on my top-50 finish in the recently concluded *** tournament, but then again the lack of buffs works against Ragnarok teams (I run one too but mine is only a 31; 1/2). I have a 77 Magneto (2/2/4), who forms the basis of my offense.

The game is difficult, when you compete. I've been uncompetitive at the highest levels but have been having fun using ** teams for about 4 weeks.

Bottom line, I think the game is casual enough.

Competitiveness can't be supported by casual engagement. Having said that, I want to see more * tournaments. I enjoyed those.
  • I'm 15 days in and have been having a blast. Even won a punisher cover during the hunt.
But yeah this game wasn't exactly ment for the casual crowd overall when everywhere you look there are leaderboards.
And that's fine there are plenty of games out there for casuals but almost every single one of them ends up running into the same problem of providing proper "endgame" content and replayability.
So far the only such casual game I've found with constant updates to endgame was Puzzle and Dragons.
And frankly even with having a lot of the most desired leaders for that game I still find myself ignoring the game to play this one.

If you're getting paired against teams that are too strong, use the skip button until you see something that you CAN beat. That's what I did, and I got first place in a Bad is Good tournament with a really **** team. (L40 Venom, L37 Bullseye, and a L15 Ragnarok.) I just skipped everyone who had a Daken with more than 700 hit points. icon_e_smile.gif

Getting a high score in one of the non-Lightning Round events will take a lot of time though.

The problem with this game is not a lack of endgame content - it is a problem with midgame content.
There is a huge, frustrating gap between the beginning content and the current content. You do not get the covers you need to compete in current content from the beginning content, so you have to grind and get lucky, or spend a large amount of money and still get lucky, in order to acquire the covers needed to compete in current content.

(Also, you have to have a LOT of free time to keep up in this game - I'm already looking at how far I'm likely to slip down the rankings because I'm going to have to spend too much of my spare time cleaning the house this week)

This is a perceptual problem. People see an event like the hulk and want to be able to complete every mission and compete for the highest results, but these events have early, mid, and late game content all mixed together. I love how they do that, personally, because everyone gets to participate to some degree. Don't rush through the game. Play, and allow the game to come to you. The issue isn't that there is a massive gap, but that you are trying to make that jump all at once.

Gather iso, build your team, try to do a little more in each event.

I couldn't have said that any better.
I think its just a matter of people needing to learn to temper their expectations with reason and understanding that not everyone wins all the time.
Understand your limits play within them and enjoy what you CAN accomplish!

For example in my personal case being only 16 days in, Im at a cross road in which i'm JUST strong+smart enough to start winning 3star covers.
But am also torn in that i need to build up my 2stars like last event (the hunt) it likely would have been better had i held back a little and earned one of each of the wolvie covers rather then the single punisher cover.
This Hulk event has me on that same exact fence. Do i get a second hulk cover (which is VERY tempting mind you since its a different color*edit* nvm same color but might be able to shoot for x2 covers? O.o) or get one of each of the Original BW covers so that i can continue with her progression (currently she's 3/3/1 and i plan for 3/5/5 )
Point being i KNOW im not going to be able to get the top ranks every event and am content in knowing that while having the long term goal of being able to constantly achieve what others in this forum have.
  • Tough call. I like OBW. Looking forward to a 2-star tournament so I have an excuse to use her, but I don't view her as a late game character in other circumstances. You are probably right that the wolverine covers would have helped you more. The same is probably true for widow here. Hard to know how common hulk covers will be as rewards. If hulk becomes the new im40, you won't regret passing on one.
