I think they are getting better. The last event The Hunt, was fairly decent. It seemed to be if you missed a node completely then you couldn't catch up to the leaders, but if you played a few times you could stay near the top and make that final push.

Scaling is getting pretty rough. The game should be tough though. Personally I hope we all get scaled out. This joining 5 days late and reaching the same progression as the grinders is unfair. I would love the last two days he all but unplayable to make people think twice about that strategy. I do understand the the forum would explode with anger and all people could do to keep their sanity would he rage the forum and convolute some explanation based on d3 being Greedy.

Well I just did my afternoon 5 nodes, just crawling over the finish line. I now have 7 dead, 2 really beaten up and used up 4 health packs. End result Heist in Spain went down 7 lvls icon_mrgreen.gif
  • Welp... some easy nodes just spawned, so that blows my theory out of the water.

The Hard track nodes are still there, but weren't they scheduled to swap/reset at Midnight EDT tonight anyways?

Did they? Just sailed past noon eastern and I'm not seeing any new nodes. Tried restarting a couple times, nothing. Am I suck in a time warp? Will I have to go back...to the future? icon_e_surprised.gif

I only see 1 new node: "Follow Up Visit" featuring Moonstone/Daken/Bullseye.

I see one new node "Follow Up Visit" (with Moonstones icon up near Russia/Eastern Europe)

EDIT: Looks like I was beaten to the punch.

"Switching Teams" appeared sometime this morning, as the new easiest node on the board.

"Follow Up Visit" appeared right at Noon EDT, as a high-end Normal track node.

The Hard and Essential track nodes are currently unchanged, as historical precedent states there will be two more full node swapouts, at 3.0 days remaining (Midnight EDT tonight), and at 1.5 days remaining in the event.

    Lyriam beat me to it.

This statement above should be theoretically correct.

Yeah, I had Switching Teams from yesterday. Follow Up Visit did finally decided to grace me with its presence. I was figuring we'd get more than that, but I guess this is the obligatory 36 hour cycle to flip the "end times" even though there aren't any subs.

The rubberband is indeed crazy strong in this one, and point generation is slowing down considerably because of scaling issues.

The combination of the two always results in an ugly situation where everyone ends up with roughly the same score and a player's final position is only as good as their performance in the last 30 minutes of the entire event.

On the other hand, lately, Demiurge has employed some tricks up their sleeves to discourage late starters. Recent events with disabled rubberbanding on the final round tried to mitigate this issue somewhat.

So, in an event where playing the system is clearly to the player's advantage, what are the rules of Calvinball this time?

I think I see what might happen (removal of all Normal track nodes, leaving only 200+ Hard track nodes for late starters to work with), but will need to see if the trend holds after the next node reset.

Recent events have been doing better at stopping rubberbanding from being straight up the optimal strategy since joining late meant that you cant get all the progression rewards: the main reason why this event is messed up is because it was the first event ever in mpq, and so has a lot of design issues that have been fixed in future events. It would be non trivial to fix the design issues in this event (youd probably have to change it so that each days nodes are individually reubberbanded and are treated as a sub, without actually having a sub) but since this feature would only get used for this one particular event since new events will just have subs, i cant see them ever doing this.
  • My "Iso-8 Hold Up" is at lvl 315.

How can one cope with a node like this ? Killed my best roster twice already.

    Gave up...

Now there's just one new node. Not a great opportunity to grind points...
  • I just started this Event, and I'm already done with it. I tried doing the Goon/Hawkeye/Daken node twice, and the enemy keeps getting these ridiculous damn cascades that cover the board in Strike and Protect Tiles, meanwhile I'm lucky if I can ever get a match that's a color I can actually use. It's nearly impossible to get to actually enjoy a game and have fun with it when it keeps doing this stupid garbage OVER and OVER again.

Spain 294, iso-8 heist 322 and hoarders 261.. 322 isn't fun shot my best team twice in a row..OK, so the challenge is great, but slow down right leave unwinnable is evil. And out of battles hurt and die several times.

Iso-8 Heist just maxed out for me. Not looking forward to 395s.
  • And we're not even in the middle of the event...

That's what worries me; we're in the middle of the event. BTW, I'm in your bracket, Arktos...I'm #22. I'm waiting for refresh... Just like you, I don't know how it's going to be, with this crazy scaling...

You know its a situation like this when bullseye (I don't think it's hawkeye) puts down so many protect tiles coupled with daken's I Its one hell of a pendunordinate number of strike tiles. That I think was the reason Loki was even created for this game! Its one hell of a pendulum swing when you see 7+ of bullsye protect tiles and 7+ of Daken's strike tiles swing around.

But yea seeing 600+ damage individual strike tiles does not equal fun. I need to find an mobile phone app to video capture a 3k damage per match up cascade. Never seen my lvl 100+ die faster than that

    Can't disagree with that logic.

I half wonder if this event is one of those "tests" designed to see how well players fare against 200+ enemies post character shift.

For most, the highest node in the last sub peaked at 245, with Iso-8 Heist almost there at 233 and climbing. With two full sets of nodes left to play, I wonder if the general populace will actually see 300s in this event before it is over...

Man, I didn't even think of using Loki on that node. If he can survive along enough to cast trickery, that might actually be enough to beat it.

Better bring someone to cover black for Loki. If he's taking hits he'll be long dead before you get enough to use Trickery otherwise. Probably should make sure he's covered on green and purple as well. With his hit points you don't want to be taking any chances. A stiff breeze is enough to take out that noodle-armed Asgardian.
