No Rising Tensions?

I may have missed a post or something, but was there a response anywhere with a public statement from the devs/management team about why RT was removed with nothing to replace it?0

If they add RT back, like it was as a weekday daily, with greatly reduced rewards, it kind of proves everyone's "cash grab" comments right. If they reverse course and just give us RT back, it makes VIP look extra bad from a value perspective. They really should add RT back, or a new replacement with similar rewards, and then improve VIP by increasing the rewards AND reducing the cost.
this could be really a way out for them and in my eyes the only way not to get game over. Good point!3 -

The state of the game is saturated with players with full (or nearly-full) collections. This proposal fast-tracks that result. Consider where we are now:- Players already have nearly-full collections and want more events to use them (which would also give more rewards)
- The current set of events are considered stale because players with nearly-full collections use the same powerful cards repeatedly (to win the highest-level rewards)
- We have players arguing that rarity should not be a factor in card power because people already have fairly good access to even the most rare cards - "rarity" is more pseudo-rarity in this game
- We have players arguing that PvP rewards should be re-scaled because one loss in platinum leads to losing 7,361 places on the leaderboard (even before the most recent issues with bugs/freezes) because everyone is winning at an incredibly high rate
Likewise, how would more people buying VIP lead to the goal of a more F2P-friendly environment? If the point is that buying VIP means I get stuff sooner than F2P can, isn't that by definition paying for an advantage over F2P? If it's not granting an advantage, why bother with buying VIP?1 - Players already have nearly-full collections and want more events to use them (which would also give more rewards)

Well I gotta say... I never realized how much more free time I had if I stopped playing weekday mtgpq events4

Why is having a full collection a bad thing? If the carrot is too far away, people give up. If it's reachable, they keep going. People don't quit playing paper magic just because they have all the cards. Owning the cards has nothing to do with playing the game. If RT returning and better VIP means more people get full collections, that probably means more players are buying VIP which means they have more money to continue developing the game and add more events for people to play. I've beem playing the game for 3 years, I'm in a top coalition, I spend money from time to time, and I still don't have a full collection. I have pretty close but I'm still missing well over half the MPs, some mythics and even a few rares.

I am not saying having a full collection is an inherently bad thing. And I may well be overstating the frequency of a "full" or "nearly-full" collection.
But without getting bogged down in precise numbers of who has what, being successful enough to compete in a top coalition without a "nearly-full" collection makes my above case even stronger: if this is the state the game is in now, what will adding more free access to rewards/currency accomplish? More people winning 90%+ of the time with easier paths to "beating" the events, leading to more calls for content churn.
In this game the only point of winning rewards is to gain more/better cards, which will lead to more victories, with more rewards, etc. We all agree that it is easy to beat Greg because Greg is an idiot. Without any real difficulty curve, the only limiting factor is how many resources you have, and it's clear that most everyone here already has plenty of them.
I do agree there needs to be a regular event for keeping active engagement. I don't agree that it needs to have the reward basis that RT had.

Nah, having full decks does not mean satisfaction, even though that is one of my goals with the game. There are a hundred different things that people would spend money on in this game that would not change the way the game was played. Cosmetics anyone? Getting a good set of playing cards should not be the limiting factor for people who want to play the game. So severely limiting event rewards and getting rid of events with rewards is not a good strategy to keeping the player base....playing.

Its Friday and im sitting here twiddling my thumbs at the laundromat when I could be playing because the midweek rotation is now severely lacking.
For perspective, as someone who works heavily on the weekends midweek events were bread and butter for me and helped me both keep up and keep interested0 -
Blipvert said:i used to put in 2+ hours of play around my daily work schedule. Now with Rising Tensions gone my average play time is under 30 min and I don’t play obsessively anymore. Thanks?Me too, though my average play time has been more like 10 minutes or less this week. I log in, see nothing's changed, collect my 3 card booster, and leave. I suppose I should try to stay and play TG or something, but I find I'm just not motivated to do it anymore. We'll see if anything changes this weekend...Anything new and exciting coming up as the coalition event?2

This is my first participation in this forum. So I'll be be really frank about it. I play this PQ for a year now. I'm a good player, who struggles to try to be more competitive. I'm trying hard to get all cards, PWs, and the like.
But I'm not a new MtG player. In fact, I used to play card games before MtG even existed. In the early 90s I played Blood Wars, based on Planescape from AD&D, with those wonderful DiTerlizzi's art work. And I play MtG since its very beginning.
What motivates me to play this game is the possibility to get all cards. But since it's so so difficult to get new cards, this game becomes really time demanding. And without RT, this game will be really frustrating.
When I say this game is "time demanding", I also mean it leaves me less time to play real MtG games wuth real paper cards. So I'm stopping buying MtG.
When I used to play other digital versions of MtG, like 2012 to 2015 versions, Duels or Arena, I was motivated to buy cards to implement the same strategies from this versions into real world Magic.
But the more I have to play, or pay for PQ, the less I'll buy MtG cards.
That said, I think WotC should pay for this game, and that it should be a way to make people be interested in MtG. Not the other way around.
The other reason I understand it's been easy to be well classified in events is due to a reduction in the number of players.
And this players pool will not be enlarged by these decisions.
If this goes on, I fear I may quit MtGPQ soon.
Thanks for these 16 months of quests and prizes.

Even with RT around I stopped playing the game outside of work breaks. I needed a break.
Now that RT is gone I don't even enter the game... TG is a joke.1 -
After 16 months playing daily, I have only 42.7% of the mythics, and 18.9% of the Masterpieces, In my opinion, the progress in this game is really slow.
Even then, my only motivation to play this game daily was the possibility to get all cards.
BUT, without RT or a similar event, this goal is simply unreachable. So, why would I even bother?
Even if I buyed crystals and boosters, chances are I'll only get common copies. How many times I spent 300 crystals to buy boosters with no ne cards in it.
Maybe the problem here is not granting new cards, but that when we get one instance of a card we get infinite instances of that card. While in real MtG we are normally limited to 4 copies.
That's why from time to time I face people with infinite loops, getting 6 new cards like 10 times in the same turn, exploding and doing all again, and out of nowhere they kill us from an empty table. In a real MtG game their decks should be depleted, granting us a win!
Anyway,I wait to see until the end of this month.
Meanwhile, yesterday I reinstalled MtG Arena in my computer... And it's so nice!
Good luck to us all!0 -
Only around 40% of mythics after half a year? That's a lot. A really good share IMO

No one needs to have all cards. This game isn't about having all cards is about building good decks with the ones we ended up getting.
RT was too generous and created the hope that everyone could get close to a complete collection, which is unreal and unsustainable for the game.
I don't think taking RT out without any replacement is a good thing but I do believe they need to adjust rewards to be something less generous.
Tbh I think the greatest mistake in RT rewards is the amount of orbs given. Jewels and gold are on a decent level. Maybe if the card rewarded was a rare instead of a mythic things would be more realistic and wouldn't make so much impact on the game.0
