@Brigby will there be at least a daily event that will substitute RT to provide players with orbs? I’ll be honest: I’m a new player and RT keeps me motivated because I know that eventually I’ll get those 5.000 orbs in a while even when it takes a bit to get the cards I want. Now I’ve been collecting 600 crystals which took me quite a while to get and all I got out of two premium packs were two rares I already own. My motivation isn’t that high any longer...you do want to keep your players motivated do you?

'Joined the rest of the events in regular rotation' seems like it means, once every few weeks, instead of 5 times a week?

Here's the event calender from the wiki:

    https://wiki.mtgpq.info/wiki/Event_calendar_historical

Over those 13 weeks, we played NoP 5 times, EC 5 times, FS 4 times. Is this how often we can expect to be playing RT?
I believe Rising Tensions would still be grouped together as a cluster of 5 daily events, since the representation of each Guild introduced in GRN/RNA would still want to be maintained.

As for the exact frequency, I'm afraid I'm unaware as to how often it will be scheduled in the future, compared to past events.

After months and months of running Across Ixalan and then Rising Tensions, and the huge surge in resources this has given players, I wonder if the development team is trying to throttle this.

I have been able to close out the sets "Rivals of Ixalan", "Dominaria", "M19" and now "Guilds of Ravnica", and use my plethora of purple to snag many of the better Masterpieces. This is due to the huge boost in Jewels and Orbs provided by these events.

Could this be a reaction to slow down card accumulation?

That is my assumption. "Players seem to be acquiring things too easily. We have two options: Reduce the rate at which they acquire currency or add more things for players to waste their currency on. Let's go with the one that is more punishing to players and easier for us to implement."
I always assumed that the choice to give out a daily mythic for Rising Tensions was an acknowledgement of how difficult it was for new players to get into the game competitively.  As the backlog of available cards rises with each set, but the costs don't go down, the chances of newer players being able to hold their own against the veterans become smaller and smaller.  Getting more orbs into the economy, in a way that was friendly to newer players, was a clever solution to the problem.  But perhaps I was giving the devs too much credit.

By my count there are 2.253 million orbs' worth of craftable cards in the game, before factoring in masterpieces and things like the Duel Deck cards.  I've been playing this game daily for about 18 months, competing among the best coalitions and rarely failing to achieve full progression rewards from an event, even sprinkling in a small amount of money when the right deal comes along, like Karn/Gilded Lotus at $20.  Even after 18 months of hard work I'm still 500k orbs short of a complete craftable collection.  If RT goes away without a comparable replacement, I suspect I'll never close that gap.

If 18 months of play only puts you at 75% or so, what chance do newer players have?  It's really difficult to target specific cards for acquisition, except through the crafting system; even then, if you're crafting into Legacy it's just one big pool.  Perhaps this will encourage new players to pay cash for the specific cards that let them succeed; the game has to get its income from somewhere, and I've already detailed in other posts how there are some underlying flaws that make it difficult to continue being profitable and interesting.

For me, the thought of losing this event isn't going to motivate me to put in more cash.  The enjoyment of chasing a full collection is one of the things that keeps me going with the game, but it's not really going to give me a better chance to compete than I have already; if anything, it's going to cement the difference between the haves and the have-nots for certain overly powerful cards.  Instead it'll just be the most recent in a long string of disappointments associated with MTGPQ.

Hopefully we'll be getting a more stable experience with 3.4 and an interesting new War of the Spark set with 3.5, complete with the new events and challenges we've all been hoping for.

I have been playing this game for a bit over 3 years now (I think its 3, when was Garruk released?) and I don't think I have much over 75% of the cards in the game.  Sure that's in part because when I started playing getting 150 crystals per month was the norm, there was no crafting, no guaranteed non dupes, no coalition events (or any events), horrendus drop rates, and games usually took 10-20 min each if you didn't have the best collection.  The fact that you can get 75% of the cards in the game in only 18 months seems pretty amazing to me.  Hell, the fact that I'm getting roughly 350-500 crystals every month now without every placing in the top 50 of a large PvP event (I average 1.5 losses per event, usually ending up in 75-150th place) is incredible to me.

I'm not saying that the devs are justified in dropping Rising Tensions in order to slow the flood of orbs we've been blessed with recently, but I definitely don't think that giving everyone a free non-dupe mythic every week is a great way to go about things either.  I do like getting a free mythic or two every week, though.  Hopefully there will be a compromise somewhere so everyone can be kind of happy.

On the bright side, the lack of RT will make it very easy to quit the game. Nothing to draw you in during the weekend. Also, they're scheduling HoR now for our weekend coalition event, with minimal prizes, yet the full set of charges. Before today, I was actually looking forward to RtO, now I'm considering quitting.

Rising tensions haven't totally disappeared ... They are now live on the forums ...

Taking away Rising Tensions means completing the daily events now costs 10 gold when before it netted 20 gold. It also cuts a pack and 20 pinks a day even setting the mythic aside.  The rate of gold and pink accrual is dramatically reduced (or even reversed!) by this move in a way even the new VIP plans can't recoup, and it makes it much harder to justify doing anything during the week.

Having this event be removed without a replacement on hand or even an explanation of why the team thought it necessary to remove is pretty demoralizing.

I will now never play during weekdays, which means no playtesting for the weekend events, which means they will not be as fun, which means...

    @Brigby

I would strongly suggest that the team finds a way to keep us playing daily aside from the Training Ground. If you don't, there will be some players who become disinterested. Even if it's only old dailies to rotate in or something. The TG dailies are nice but that's not enough in my opinion.

The best way to incentivize the purchase of the new pay to win system is to mess with the game economy even further. RT provides too steady of a resource of pinks and most of us know that if you work hard with booster crafting you can force draw your masterpieces with pinks. This mechanic ruins their new 89$ over 6month carrot on a stick for masterpiece crafting. Thus the discontinuation of RT as a weekly.

This reeks of a cash grab.

Is WotC making you change this game up on purpose to complete the migration to Ar***?

I have played this game since the start.

Sad to see it finally go.

As there is no other Ravnica allegiance event, the only event where anyone can get last set boosters is Trials of plains, an event with a fee to play and that is worthy just in platinum.

    Another popular movement.
