Ixalan Predictions

I'm curious what you all think is going to be the best card (or cards) from the new set that's about to drop. For your convenience, here is the card list.
Personally, I think that it'd be pretty hard to screw up Goring Ceratops. It's ability is 100% translatable to the PQ environment, and I think if they stay true to what's on the card, it will be one of the top cards to get. However, I'm torn in saying that it will be better than Carnage Tyrant, which we've already seen. I think that card looks fantastic though that's probably due to my preference for untouchable monstrosities.
Perhaps this is a little too late, but I've been too busy to put it on the boards since I thought of the idea last night. You can even break it out into rarity tiers, spell types, or colors if you like. I'd love to see what you all think!

I like quirky cards and finding ways to use them. The only thing the new hexasaurus has that we don't have in other existing cards is "Dinosaur". Two of the quirky cards I was hoping for have both been previewed in the blogs and the both disappointed me a bit... Namely Axis of Mortality and Vanquisher's Banner. Axis of Mortality is nothing like the paper card and the jury is out on Vanquisher's Banner
That said, I'm hopeful for Revel in Riches and Arcane Adaption.0 -

You're certainly correct in that we already have other Untouchables. But I think the thing I like most about Tyrant is that it can't be messed with while it's in your hand. That's something they haven't done yet with anything.ElfNeedsFood said:I like quirky cards and finding ways to use them. Revel in Riches would be cool, and probably easily translatable. Neat picks!
This is also a cool choice. I wonder if they'll also make it return support cards to the hand?Kardynal said:River's Rebuke0 -
Oh right, that is pretty interesting and unique.Matthew said

The thing about Carnage Tyrant.... It's Mana can't be drained or raised. Does the raised part mean it can't get Mana from supports like Pyramid or Kiora's first ability? They didn't say its Mana cost cant be raised.0

I agree, the wording is funky and has had me worried. My hopeless optimism has me thinking that it just means that the cost can't be raised, probably referring to effects like Sphinx's Tutelage, Overwhelming Splendor, or Emrakul for example.khurram said:The thing about Carnage Tyrant.... I mean think about it, why would they create a card that you can't cast by any traditional means?1 -

Heh. And the mana won't jump to the next card until it's full, so it's sit like an anchor at the top of your hand stopping you from playing completely...

This is exactly how I'm hoping it will behave. That would be extremely useful.1

'Taxed' might be a better word than 'raised'.
Also, it'd be nice if it couldn't be discarded either, wouldn't it?0 -
I thought it was pretty clear. Mana cost cannot be Raised or lowered. In all of MTG ... mana cost has always is just that. Mana cost. It doesn't address how mana affects it. Just simply states the required amount needed to cast it cannot be raised or lowered. @Matthew has it right. Sphinx Tutelage, Emrakhul, Overwhelming Splendor cannot alter its cost... but neither can those two new red and white cards cards that lower dinosaurs by 2 mana.Matthew said:

Taxed means to sap, drain or strain. Raised is opposite of this, which is closer to escalate or inflate.Kardynal said:'Taxed' might be a better word than 'raised'.

It would be nice if it couldn't be discarded. Be useful whenever facing black or blue decks0 -
I also hope Revel in Riches comes to us. Partly because when I looked it up it had my favorite official ruling I've ever seen:
"If the second ability of Revel in Riches causes you to win the game, please refrain from throwing your Treasure tokens into the air as this may distract or injure other players."

I am also curious as to how they will adapt this card (and that ruling is beautiful, thank you for sharing).DBJones said:I also hope Revel in Riches comes to us. Partly because when I looked it up it had my favorite official ruling I've ever seen:

Admiral Beckett Brass seems like he'll be interesting as well.

Wait does that mean Carnage Tyrant won't work with Omniscience? Because it lowers the card cost to zero. Weird.0
-
Will it work with dark ritual or mirror pool?0

Nice catch. I don't own that card. But yes it shouldn't work at all.GrizzoMtGPQ said:Wait does that mean Carnage Tyrant won't work with Omniscience? Because it lowers the card cost to zero. Weird.0 -
Dark ritual fills the card with mana. So yes, it would. I honestly can't say about mirrorpool, I don't own thr card. Does it fill the free card with mana or reduce to zero or simply cast it from your hand?Gideon said:Will it work with dark ritual or mirror pool?0 -
Mirrorpool does two things: if you cast a spell with another spell-type card in hand it will fill that next spell and then be destroyed.Gunmix25 said:

If you cast a creature it will reinforce it.
I don't see why mirrorpool would not reinforce a cast carnage tyrant. It never fills creature cards.1
