    Congrats to The1WhoKnocks!

And yes, what NP said. Leave the XMen alone. Without whom most of us would get to 1300 covers with much difficulty.

    Can I get a "Challenge Accepted" for 5k? icon_mrgreen.gif

If I may ask, when you acknowledge the help from your alliance crew, are you talking about plain motivation, or did you get points from them like placing weak teams for you to attack and attacking you to lose on purpose? If so, how many people were involved?

Placing weak teams and losing on purpose isn't an option once you past 2K, not too mention that defeats the spirit of competition. He's referring to the motivation supplied by the whole X-men family as we'll as the select few guys who stayed with him up until the end ensuring he had nodes worth decent points to hit
  • Wow... and to think that transitioners hit the wall around 600 points only when the current high score is 3000 and the average bracket score is 1000, it's just so discouraging.
  • It definitely is a great feat for one to achieve. My hats off to you 1WhoKnocks for accomplishing such an insane, daring and joyfully challenging task icon_e_biggrin.gif Many people don't understand the joy one gets from, not only succeeding, but being the FIRST to succeed at something that has only been whispered about. Now, the whispers have faded and have turned into solid conversations amongst other respected players of the MPQ community. Has anyone ever reached a score of 3k in PvP? Yes. Does anyone know how hard it would be to reach such a score? Yes. Really? Who did it? What's their name? The1WhoKnocks! What team are they on? X-Men! icon_cool.gif Many will think that this is crazy and stupid. They don't understand why anyone would want to pursue something like this. While others will simply know and bow their heads in respect of the grandeur that has just been accomplished. And, many will make an attempt to follow. Well played The1WhoKnocks... well done! icon_e_ugeek.gif

    Congrats.

I was just thinking about this when I went to bed today. When will someone eclipse 3k in pvp?
Best quote I'll see all day...
  • I just wanted to give a shoutout to Harada as well. This is a guy who put up 2825 in a bracket full of xmen big guns.

He put up this score without nearly the same number of friends to draw on while being sniped mercilessly by the xmen.

    Bravo Harada!

As Nick-Thor said, I simply meant the team encouraging me to keep going. I had been up for a very long time, and was ready to stop on a number of occasions. And there were never any weak teams for me to go against. And I hit a lot of people on the way up. It was not just X-Men either. There were a lot of people in other alliances that I communicated with while I was doing this. They were all instrumental in this.

And to your point Polar, Harada was hitting me and Worldrunner the entire pvp. Once I passed both of them, Harada would watch the leaderboards and queue me and hit me almost every hop. You don't need to worry about a pool of friends when you can hop off of the guy ahead of you.
  • Anyone else think it's funny that he gave a speech like if he won the Grammys? Maybe he should be given like a week off to get some sunlight instead...

As cool of an achievement this is -- and it is -- I want to point out a significant downside. In the same PVP that 1whoknocks put up his 3000 and a lot of people in his shard also put up big numbers, players in other shards were extremely limited in their targets. I was in a shard with two of my teammates where I spent thousands of ISO skipping to find any match worth 25 pts. We shield-hopped with one another as best as we could, but barely cracked 1300. This happened in two other time-sharded events, including Eight is Enough.

This disparity in shards had a direct impact on season scores. I finished 9th, less than 700 points behind 5th. Before sharding, I was averaging 1500, exceeded 2000 for Operation Pay Harder, and believe I routinely scored ahead of the players who finished 5 through 8. Had points available per shard been more consistent, I have no doubt that I would have made up that difference.

Yes, I know the difference is only a single ten-pack, but I think it is nevertheless fair to question a system that creates competitions and issues rewards that depend on scores from different time-shards, yet creates such massive disparities in how many points are achievable in those shards.
  • Reckless,
I am genuinely curious about your comments on this issue and you are clearly passionate.....but why not just simply join the high scoring slice if the season means that much to you? It seems no different to gaming other aspects for a competive total?
I am in a different space of loving the ability to pick a 8-10pm finish and (for what I want from the game) fear losing it when forumites aren't keen?

Edit: PS congrats to 1whoknocks of course

Polarcow, I understand and respect your loyalty you give to your alliance mate Harada, but Harada has done more than his fair share of snipes and I have a feeling he gets what he dishes out.
I don't really have a long list of people I will snipe, but Harada at one time made my list.
I consider sniping a bad investment in a HP to score ratio.
For instance, there have been many times, where I have q'd you up Polarcow and saved your queue for later instead of sniping you
When I hit you later, I would get more points while bouncing off your shield.
Harada frequently tries to snipe our point leaders. In the past, when I have been a high scorer, there was many times Harada would bounce off my shields right after I have shielded.
I have been in brackets with him, where I have watched his shielding and un-shielding in a very small time period. This frequently coincides with a point leader un-shielding.
    Anyway, good luck next season.
Congrats to 1Whoknocks for doing something most thought impossible.

It is had for people to determine what the high scoring slice is going to be. In most cases, it is the time slot that the X-men alliance have chosen to join. The X-men are not going to announce that to anybody outside of the alliance, and choose the time slot on a semi random basis.
  • I'll take harada every time. He had at most 5 people helping him versus the full might of xmen.

As to the justification that it's easy to hop off the guy in front of you? Not so much when 99 other xmen are trying to snipe you to keep their guy in first.

In a fair fight its harada every single time. But since it wasn't... Congrats 1knock. You earned it!

99 People? Are you saying none of us sleep? What exactly is a fair fight? Are there some printed rules about this game I don't know about? Who was being unfair?
Did Harada not hit any X men while climbing?

Is it unfair that our alliance has good communication among it's members and others do not? I am baffled.

Polarcow you can always apply for the X-men to see what we are all about. You will see that we rarely, if ever target somebody, and prefer to hop off each others shields.
  • A former x commander who really loves bunnies told me that xmen do not hit people in their own bracket.

That doing that wasn't right. So I guess that situation changes depending on how much xmen want first of or 3k? At least xmen have principles.

And don't tell me you have an alliance. What you have is 5 alliances. (Well you did)

Xmen communication is no better than other other alliances. And I suspect that given current turmoil it might actually be worse.

Harada might not have finished first but he had 6-12 players almost as good as him plus a whole bunch of others keeping him down. Edited for clarity.

My opinion is that haradas 2825 is a much greater accomplishment than 1knocks 3k because he did it basically alone.

But the scoreboard doesn't lie so I guess I'm wrong icon_rolleyes.gif

Didn't particularly want to create a new topic for this, so I'm bumping this topic instead, but are 3k+ scores (more) commonplace now? I looked at the top 10 of my bracket and the top 3 are all close to 4k icon_eek.gif . So I quickly looked at the members of the top few alliances, and there are multiple 3k+ scores there too. I mean 4k isn't even impossible with the time left in my slice- good luck I guess for those going for the 4k. Did I just manage to catch the PvP people are attempting the 4k or something?

(Will edit in a picture of my bracket after the event ends, I assume most high scorers know which slice and bracket I'm talking about, but I don't particularly want to hurt these people's chances at 4k if revealing their names might make people try to snipe them)

    EDIT:
Congrats Freezze! (Screenie taken with <1min left in event)

    StXuWIe.png

I'm fairly sure that there were 4 or 5 people who all reached 4k, but this was the only one in my bracket. Also dunno who was first to breach 4k, I assume the X-Men will know.
