Always send Health Packs!
I fixed it for you.
Your usage of packs there is why I don't try many teams or combos. Health pack usage has for a long time been a limiting factor in the game that should have been gone years ago or at least changed to 'loss (including retreat) = 3 health packs needed, win = all characters fully healed'. That would incentivize not retreating and battling / using a variety of teams since if you win, it costs you nothing. It would also fix the silliness of having 2 types of healing.

This sounds like some sort of health pack phobia. You're avoiding a bunch of the fun parts of the game (team building, finding new ways to win) because you're afraid you might use up more of a thing you already have tons of.
I don't think they need to change anything about the pack system, but some players seem to have developed very odd attitudes about the game because of it. They give you free ones every day!

At least 10 free every day, in fact, considering they only take 30ish minutes to replenish you could get like 40+ free ones.

I'm going back to the confusion I had earlier. You don't try different teams or combos because you MIGHT have to dip into your "hundreds of health packs" that they give away free every day. I really couldn't be more confused about this mindset.

I think this is a fairly common gamer phenomenon. I'm not going to use all of my healing potions and phoenix downs on this boss, I might need it for a super hard boss later!
Many hours later fighting the final boss with x9999 healing potions and phoenix downs in your inventory that you never used.

We're not supposed to like the health pack system. Players have been complaining about it since the game launched, and the very best conspiracy theories always go back to "they're obviously making this change to sell more health packs!" followed by 18 additional convoluted steps to get back to that conclusion. (One of my all-time favorites was "they're just improving rewards so that they can sell more health packs!")
The health pack system is crucially important. It's the same reason all these games have stamina systems -- keep regular players from getting bored. The secret when it comes to these games is that they're fun in bursts, but they don't have a ton of depth. MPQ has a bit more than most, but it's not available at the beginning of the game, when they're trying to hook players in.
So how do you get around that? Stop them from finding out there's no depth, and leave them wanting more! If there was no stamina system, they'd lose tons of new players to the "that's it?" phenomenon. It's the same reason they don't give you a full roster the first day, it's the same reason it takes forever to get ISO, champion 5* etc etc. It's why they're dribbling out Galactus shards!
Again, we're not supposed to like this stuff, but it's designed to keep us chasing, keep us wanting more, and distract us from the fact that we're basically doing the same thing over and over again for years.
5 -
Oh, the cool part about the MPQ health pack system? It gates off new players (who don't have much HP and have way better things to spend it on anyway), but allows crafty veterans to play basically as much as we want!
They've done this on purpose. The advice was always "only spend your HP on roster slots," but that was before they started giving them out like candy! They've also significantly upped HP earnings over the years, and HP has been repeatedly devalued anyway. CP is the premium currency for us now and it has been for a long time. Spending HP on health packs is a perfectly sane thing to do now, because what else are you going to do with it?

But...I only had 10 and did ok?!?!? You have hundreds so can do like 20 or 30 times better than I did?

Spending HP on health packs is a perfectly sane thing to do now, because what else are you going to do with it?This exactly. If I was starting from zero, I would not wast time trying to build evenly. Big wide rosters still have the best mix of flexibility strength etc, BUT IT HAS NEVER BEEN EASIER OR CHEAPER to create a viable usable roster against lvl 450+ rosters.
Still vets have the experience and knowledge to place where they want. All the strategies still work as before, but you need more experience to know when to shield, stay out and trade etc... I've definitely seen new names punching up but not necessarily understanding how to play the actual leader board efficiently.
It will be interesting to see if the devs efforts actually grows the match counts or unique players.

If what you guys say is true then why are the 2 true heal supports on SAP tiles match so highly prized. Its because they reduce health pack usage. Without those I'd use countless per day.
The regen also doesn't help me because I can't log in 8 times a day to play after they regen. I can only play at limited times.
I suspect I'm not alone in this health pack thing. Heck I'd be fine if my VIP just gave me 30 packs a day and no other reward. I'd be much more likely to try other things and use them more freely.

I honestly don't know what supports those even are, and certainly haven't seen them "prized."
I can't say whether you're alone in this. You do certainly seem to be an outlier around here.
How much HP do you have currently? What are you using it for?

He's too busy posting on the forum to play more, ha.
I recall every early review of this game I came across commented (negatively) about the heal **** throttling play. Then 5 packs regen'd, not 3. Two wipes and you were hosed. Pay to continue.
MPQ didn't invent this spending prod, it goes back to arcades ("Insert coin to continue! 9... 8... 7... 6...") ... and it certainly iisn't the only gacha battler with a similar throttle ... but it's inclusion here has always sucked.

If they got rid of the throttle, the complaints would change to "why am I doing the same thing over and over again?" And "why doesn't this game have enough content to last me more than an hour?"
Have you ever played one of those old arcade games with infinite lives enabled? Most of them have so little actual content that removing the throttle turns the game into a joke.

Highly prized by who? I'm active here on the forums, in a couple facebook fan groups, and lurk on discord. I've literally never heard anyone say anything about those supports.
All talk about supports was the banned ones, then ap generating one's, the power and soul stone, and then one's with some niche uses like the AI, omnipotence city, gamma ray, and maybe some others.
Where are these players that care about true healing supports?

Having Lucky and Carol's Communicator were a huge deal for me when I was just starting to punch up into 9/10 with champed but low Polaris and Rocket/Bill; Back when Kitty was actually considered a priority build. You'd see a lot of love for them in the reddit threads for people around that stage of roster building and they still come up in that context.

Carols Communicator and Lucky are the 2 true heal supports. I remember when they buffed Lucky how many players commented positively on it because it increased the true heal amount. I suspect most regular posters here are 550 or at least 500 players who aren't short on resources anymore. But YOU guys are the outliers, not the rest of us and true healing is insanely valuable when doing PvE and PvP with rosters where we are often 100 to 200 levels below what we battle.
I currently have 105K HP, down from 120 that I had at start of anniversary (bought out 1 vault and the monthly quest extra for 1000 and another 1000 for a bunch of XP for that etc).
Like many here, I hope to use a large amount on those nice vaults that have yet to show (guessing Xmas now).
Even with 105K, I am technically negative HP wise since I have rostered dupes of only about 25 4's so with another 125 that I'll eventually need (more and more hit 370 every month) along with new releases I'd estimate I'd need 200K to be truly HP neutral but of course I'll have a while to get that hence why I don't mind spending 40-50K on vaults.

Just done a couple of matches with 1HE (with Lucky), OBW and a barely levelled Doop (for the Particle Accelerator) and had a lot of fun slaying Shang Chi teams. I only had to fire Hawkeye's purple about 5 times. This feels hilarious.
(Don't think I've ever used Doop before unless he was essential. Why does no one use Doop? Punch Everyone/Unstoppable/Particle Accelerator feels like a strong combo?)
Incidentally, even though you have to progress to turn 2 for Particle Accelerator to fire and this was a hilariously frail looking team the heal timer is only at 3 minutes for Doop and the other two took no damage. Who needs health packs?

105,000 HP, and 200 HP is too much for 5 health packs...you are not short on resources. I'm pretty sure that's more HP than I have ever had at one time.
I also have no issue spending 40-50k on good vaults, because I have actually levelled up and ascended my characters, so I make most of it back in champion rewards. You've artificially kneecapped your roster for reasons that make no sense, and are now complaining about the effects of your own weird decisions.
We may not be representative of the larger game, but I seriously, seriously doubt there are any other "low level players" running around with resource hoards to the level you're describing.
4 -
I also feel like we've spent a lot of time on this one particular case that may not be representative, and I haven't heard anybody else chime in on this one..
The original question was "when you say PvP is showing you teams you can't beat, does that actually mean teams you can't beat without using a health pack?"
