I found it interesting how they are just throwing 5* Ghost Rider at us in the season pass. I guess it could just be that GR is a bit average but even so don't remember them chucking this level of 5* covers at us for what amounts to 1500 HP. I like it and hope it continues of course but it does beg the question is this a one off or are we suddenly going to see a flood of ways to get 5* covers moving forward. In a game where 5s are now the second most powerful tier then giving some away in the pass makes sense. Especially since you need premium to really get all of the covers. Based on our sneak peek 6s will be extremely powerful and 5s are 4s in comparative power level.
There are 112 5s now. If they did this every season that’s just 13 a year. Leaving 99, currently, you’d still need to acquire elsewhere.
It certainly makes a stronger argument for spending the 1500 hp for premium.

I'd celebrate for a crash- and freeze-free version.

I’d celebrate knowing potentially something really important…like who is getting nerfed and who is getting buffed, otherwise these vaults feel like traps in my opinion.

In any case it’s basically been promised that some of the Fan Favorites will be “carefully rebalanced” and I assume the devs decided to hold off putting up stores focused on several characters who are about to be diminished. A whole lot of people would get mighty POd if they hoarded for a year and their shiny new Shang Chi was made mid-tier and basically useless. For example (I do not know who’s being nerfed.)

All that said, we do have a 1000CP store with a Rank 4 Thanos Copter in it, a Support that is supposedly getting nerfed. Mixed signals.
I wish they would just get the nerf news over and done with. I guess a Friday is as good as time so they can duck out the office when the abuse comes flying in!

I don’t understand why any characters need to be nerfed if they are introducing 6* into the game. Not everyone is in a position to chase 6’s plus 5* and ascended 4* are who you’re bringing into fight against 6* when there are enough in the game.iWe spend all our time getting rewards to level up the metas only to be cut down. Don’t nerf, just come up with better characters to counter. That’s what will make the game fun and challenging

Three key reasons to nerf meta characters:
- They are boring to see over and over in so many queues and we don’t know how the PvP meta game will evolve and whether they’ll successfully have bands of tiers. But in any case it’s probably overdue to have a space where there aren’t like 5 utterly dominant toons when there are 380+.
- If the existing metas can just slowly cruise through new SCL 10 then it makes chasing 6s seem sorta beside the point for many players. So that would be a reason to make them less able to do that.
- In general you want players to feel like they need to chase new people and the game has set up a situation where super old toons can carry you through most of the game’s content.
That said lots of people will be mad and I think this move, while overdue, will knock a decent chunk of the playerbase off.

Maybe, but it really depends which specific chunk of the playerbase is knocked off. If it's the boycotting players who are still winning everything while spending zero, knocking them off is a positive thing and should be the devs' goal.

Losing players should never be a goal

I bought this in a nanosecond.
The 2 Ascended 3-4s were ones I needed (I missed pulling Torch during the FF monthly quests). Plus 75 Galactus shards, 10 Classic/Latest tokens, 2 Roster slots (for those 2 ascended characters), some 4 star Doom covers and the Copter. The Copter is the only thing I didn't need so it just became 80 favorite shards.

Losing players should never be a goalCompletely insane take. Making money is the goal. Players who spend no money (and never will) contribute nothing, and in fact are taking up valuable slots from players who do, or might, spend.

Until we see the nerfs we can't tell how big a deal they are.
For one thing, they could nerf characters only in PvP and leave them alone in PvE. How you ask? Well they could put limits on how often powers (active and passive) trigger in a turn. In PvE they could leave it set as unlimited and in PvP they could say limit MThors powers to 2x a turn so you could at most fire each power 2x in a turn. Same with Polaris, they could limit her passive to say 3x in a turn, her active Blue to 2x a turn and so on. Setting limits would end all the winfinites in PvP (something the original PQ did on the XBox so PvP wasn't whomever went first wins).

I've seen players say "Well I run a business and I would never treat any customer poorly, the customer is always right!"
This is true! But customers spend money. If you don't spend money you are not a customer, and most businesses aren't going to let you just hang out for free forever. Buy something or leave.

They can't even get daily quests to work properly and you think they're capable of having each character run as essentially 2 characters with different abilities based on whether you're playing pvp or pve????? If they even attempted to do this they would probably break the game entirely.

This is what ultimate happened to Starbucks. At one time they welcomed in people who weren't spending money but just wanted to sit and use the free Wifi. Most were respectful and didn't overly abuse things. But over time as word got out, eventually the homeless started coming in out of the cold/rain and sitting for hours, using bathrooms to shoot up etc. They started losing paying customers and finally had to crack down on people who weren't there to spend money.

It's not that at all. It's still 1 character with 1 ability. Just limits on each ability (passive/active). You can set the limit to 1,000,000 (essentially infinite) or as low as 1 (once per turn). Other than adding code to track how often a power triggers per turn there is nothing else required other than check vs the allowed limit.

That sounds like cover swaps! I can already picture the homeless non spending players shooting up covers in the bathroom! 😆😉
