Does anyone still like this game?

Since Season 1, I find that MPQ has become something I have to do, rather than something I want to do. Based on the amount of negative posts on the message board, most of them making very valid points (*ahem devs*), I get the feeling that the majority (or at least the most vocal) of players agree with that sentiment.

Does anyone out there still enjoy the game? Think that D3/ Demiurge has done a great job? Plan to purchase/play their next game?

  • I still love the basic game, but some of the problems are well-documented and constant grinding against scaled PvE is not fun

That fact that lots of us haven't packed it in seems to prove that it was / could be / nearly is a great game. Many of the posts are simply frustration that the devs aren't visibly acting on all the comments, despite all the great answers the community has!

Personally I would do it all over again, but maybe more casually icon_e_biggrin.gif. Except that I'm far too competitive and can't do things in moderation.....

I'm still having fun. We don't know how D3 is doing financially, but reportedly they're doing quite well, so I don't think the majority of players agree with the forum.

I've stuck with this game longer than any other F2P style game and spent more money on it, so, yeah, I really do enjoy it. Are there things that could be better? Sure, but that is true of all games.

Pvp has certainly become a chore ever since they implemented sharding. Facing teams of 141's right from the start is incredibly boring. The fights take forever, all of your characters come out of those fights in need of healing and you're limited to 5 health packs. Pvp is just grueling and I'm starting to not care anymore.

On top of that, they keep introducing really strong (overpowered & unbalanced) characters such as Lazy Thor, Lazy Daken, Sentry... Yet they still have not introduced a single new character that can heal. They nerfed Spider-man, are planning to get rid prologue healing and who knows what other non-sense. Im still not gonna buy health packs and most serious players won't either. They're just gonna quit the game like we're seeing at the moment. The "story" episodes are also constantly repeated, we get maybe real new content every 2 months or so.

Bring in the new players, exploit them, make them burnout and move on to the next set of players. They do not give a damn about veterans or any end-game content.

I do think it's a mistake to take the forum posts as a great indicator of overall playerbase sentiment.

If you take a look at any popular games forums, it's all the same. Just looking at the first handful of threads on other games...

League of Legends (Regarded as one of the best F2P games, by far the most popular):
    • Sanbox playground carebears are more cancerous to the game than AFKers and leavers
    • Yep, riot. Before you make skins, fix your **** servers.
    • Why you nerfing my trist Rito??
    • @Riot, I'm begging you. PLEASE ADDRESS OLAF BEFORE 4.10 GOES LIVE.
    • Riot people are taking advantage of bot games
    • rito pls tell me y

Diablo 3 (Often regarded as having a HUGE comeback with the expansion and is now considered one of the best ARPGs along with PoE):
    • Noobs misleading Blizzard into fixing the wrong stuff
    • Thanks, Blizz! <--- This one is being sarcastic, just like the 'thanks d3p!' threads
    • T6 people, why do you still play?
    • Game is dying...
    • Honestly, ladder makes me want to quit.
    • Monk DPS PLZ RESPOND
    • I Don't Know What You're All Complaining About...
    • Summary of all Problems in D3

Marvel Heroes (F2P and Marvel based, just recently celebrated 1 year anniversary with huge positive updates to the game)
    • Game Is Dead For Me
    • worst luck than me?..
    • Give us Retcon potions
    • WHRES MY TC SS???????
    • To the Community: <--- thread about how negative the community/board has been lately
    • A Complaint to Gaz
    • 4-5 things that must be fixed soon
    • My level 20 unique box was horrible!
    • The Hell called 'Story Mode'

Reading through the list of thread titles, you would think these games are just garbage, but are actually some of the most played games of today. I'm sure they have their faults, but all three games are going extremely well. You'll find the same thing with just about any competitive "games as a service" type forum. Unfortunately, what ends up often happening is the would-be forum posters that enjoy the game end up going to some other community (Reddit, neogaf, or their own dedicated forum), where the tone of things are a lot different, leaving the main forum to just become a cesspool, where users that create positive threads are lashed out against by the vocal minority and driven away.
  • Yes, I like it. Else I wouldn't be here, and I would't be playing every day. I just think that some issues need to be fixed (like MMR, cover packs, ...).

Most of the players don't bother coming on here. It's a dedicated and vocal group that voices ideas and complaints. I doubt one can get an impression of the "average player"'s opinion, because I don't think the "average player" is on here.
  • I like it but it's more addiction or I feel obligated to play for my alliance now. So, I find myself grinding just mindlessly. I like the game but not what it lures you into doing. When I played pre-alliance it was totally casual. The big update they did with the bracketing really screwed things up but I doubt if they care. Plenty of suckers out there that will drop oodles of cash and just leave the game when bored/frustrated.
  • For me it's complicated. I don't like it nearly as much as I once did. I still enjoy the basic premise of matching three gems to fuel my powers to take down my opponent. I ABSOLUTELY do not enjoy the constant necessary grind to keep up my score for my alliance. But I do like my alliance, itself, and the people in it. I wish it was possible to be more casual and still contribute solidly for my friends, even IceIX.

I really hope you don't wan/ don't expect the devs to act on every comment/suggestion this forum gives. Good or bad, it would be nearly impossible to implement every suggestion people on this forum throws out. Even if it was possible, the devs have to balance pleasing a huge player-base (that seems almost impossible to please) and running a successful business.
  • I like to play an hour or so daily. If more I get extremely bored.
  • I still like the game, but after the LStorm event ends I plan on drastically scaling back my commitment level. It has become too much like raiding but without any of the social aspects -- I need it to be something I can progress in while playing on the ****, not something I have to devote my day to.

This describes my current feelings towards the game exactly. Probably true of tons of people really. Alliances were a brilliant move to get people more committed to the game (yet also a source of stress/burnout, so not all positive surely)
  • I like the basic mechanics and Marvel aspect about it, other than that not much as of late. PVP is no fun. And PVE is too much of a grind. I only find myself getting to 300 in PVP for the token and only playing PVE sparingly. I only played this one so I could get the last Hulk cover I needed. I knew alliances were going to be when this game took a turn for the worse. Not that they are responsible for everything bad about the game, but they definitely don't help. Alliances make you feel like you need to play everyday, and in every single event. And when I feel like I'm being forced to play, it makes me want to play less. I won't uninstall it, just in case they get their **** together, but I doubt I'll play much anymore.

And why the **** is IceX still in Django? Sleeping with the enemy? For shame. icon_lol.gif

From IceIX's posts in the past it seems like most if not all of the devs have their own accounts they also play. I wonder if they even like their own game with all the changes they've made lately which encourage grinding in pve and frustration/monotony in pvp. Despite the new episode introducing sentry recently, the game has gotten pretty repetitive and boring.

I can say with very high confidence that the devs don't play the game like we do, because if they did there's no possible way they could've possibly gotten any work done. It'd be like you've this meeting talking about Magneto nerf, but someone will be like "Wait my node just refreshed!!!" and then another guy need to do a shield hop and so on, and that guy will probably get into an immediate brawl with the guy proposing the Magneto nerf.

On one hand you can't just take player's word for it as a dev but on the other hand you also have to accept that no matter how much you think you know about the game, as a dev your knowledge of the game is generally nowhere close to the crazies that play it. That said, all too often devs seem to err way too much on the side of pride and just assume they know everything there is to know, even though that's literally impossible if they actually get any work done. I think there are a lot of games that are just successful because everything else is worse, but instead of realizing this and try to improve it, people tend to think it's because they're just way better than everyone else.

The Diablo 3 example Nemek bring up is actually interesting. Diablo 3 is widely hated when it first came out, and yet it had crazy sales number and was hugely fiancially successful. The expansion, which seems to be far better received than the original D3, sold a lot less than Diablo 3. Sure they used the general rationale of 'not everyone buys expansion' but I'm pretty sure Lord of Destruction sold very close to 1 to 1 versus the original Diablo 2. Of course based on the board you'd get that (aside from Diablo 3 is always dying) that they really turned things around, even though it's a pretty significant financial failure compared to the success Blizzard franchise enjoys.

I think I enjoy this game more lately than I did when I first started playing last year. Being in a pretty cool alliance helps also. Top 50 finishes are pretty easy. Top 10s haven't been to difficult either. Usually just need one shield at the end for it.
Still one of my favorite games on my phone.

I still enjoy the game, but I've been quite lucky in that new game mechanics don't seem to affect me too egregiously. I think there are extant problems with regard to sharding, recent MMR changes for midtier players, PVE scaling, and most importantly, server stability. But, the basic game is great, my alliance is great, and strong new characters (yes, even Gold ones) get me excited.

We often wonder the same thing, but ever since Ice Snapchatted us a photo of his big red "SANDBOX" button next to his "Master Shield Toggle" switch, we've quickly learned not to openly voice such concerns.

I've all but given up on PVP, but that's never been my reason for playing. I still get a kick out of PVE, especially now that scaling seems to be a lot less ball crushing.

Been loving my boosted max level Hulk this event. It's stuff like that which keeps me coming back even when I keep telling myself I'm over it icon_mrgreen.gif

Then don't update the new patch. They found another way to take the fun out of this event.
